We've been coming here regularly for at least the past 10 years. We often come just to enjoy the outside space - which is free to access - but every now and then we take the kids into the science exhibit and they love the hands on experience there and can happily spend a couple of hours. I've only ever ordered drinks at the cafe but they are reasonably priced. It's fab to be inside and have something structured to do if the weather isn't great. Who knows, we might learn something too!

“Fantastic day out for toddlers”
Reviewed 25 April 2014

Went on a very rainy day when there was nothing else to do with my 2.5 year old toddler and 9 month old. Toddler had an amazing time in the indoor water feature and the build it zone. He was entertained for 4 hours and there was so much for him to do. The whole place is geared for young children, even the cafe has animals which pop up to entertain them during lunch. Even my baby enjoyed the soft play and sensory zone as well as watching the toddlers running around splashing. A most excellent day out. Hope to go back on a dry day when our toddler can use the outdoor play area.

“Fantastic for kids, even on a rainy day!”
Reviewed 22 April 2014

This place is brilliant. Although they advertise it as being aimed at 4-12 year olds we went with a 2.5 year old, 3.5 year old and a 5 year old - they all absolutely loved it! We only did the indoors activities as the weather was so bad outside, but we still spend 3 hours there with the kids happily playing.

There were 3 main areas - a construction site where the kids put on high-vis jackets and build the 'house' walls with massive lego-type bricks, tile the roof and ride on mini diggers (push-bike variety, not motorised).

Next was the water room - aprons are provided! This has a little flowing river where the kids can put their hands in and play with the boats and adjust the flow of the water. There were other water exhibits for them to interact with too.

Then there was the science room, 2 floors filled with science exhibits where they can push buttons and play with all kinds of science orientated items. There was also a small soft play and reading area, a small ball pit and a supermarket shop. The kids just loved all of it.

The café was also good, reasonably priced and they do kids lunchboxes. There isn't really anywhere indoors to eat your own packed lunch on a rainy day, but if the weather is nice there are loads of outdoor places to sit and eat.

Parking is £2 for up to 4 hours and £4 for 4 hours and over. If you are going into the Discovery Centre take the tear off slip from your ticket and you get £2 refunded.

Entrance prices are very reasonable, and under 4's are free!

I would definitely recommend this place and we will definitely be going back.

“Outdoor and Indoor Fun for Families”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

The Lookout Discovery Centre has outdoor playing areas with slides, swings, etc as well as climbing houses and there are plenty of walks and cycle paths available. Inside, the Centre is brilliantly conceived with lots of participative activities, encouraging developing interests in nature and science. And afterwards the cafe offers excellent refreshments, including a very fine carrot cake!
