“Staff are very friendly and food was first class”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2009

Enjoyed my 2 night business stay, staff were very helpful and friendly. Rooms were warm, clean and food was excellent. The restaurant has an open log fire which gives a cosy feel to the place. Overall an excellent stay.

On arrival hotel dingy, on going to my room, i found the room to be a disgrace, headboard on bed broken, wall paper torn, no heating and no hot water. Windows rattled and in need of replacing. Worst nights sleep, after getting up at 4m, and driving from Yorkshire and then doing a days work I was looking forward to my bed, unable to sleep due to noise and smell of bed (mouldy smelling).

Next morning after getting up at 6.30am (fed up of not being able to sleep) I ventured down for breakfast, which was served in the bar area, I ordered a full breakfast which was disgusting, which was served by a scruffy looking man who didnt look like he wanted to be there.

I would not recommend this hotel to anyone, and would advise anyone thinking of staying there to reconsider and find another hotel.

Freezing cold room, the radiator while turned on was barely ever at even lukewarm. The worst part was the complete lack of welcome about the place. There was a real Miss Efficiency at the Front Desk, and was extremely brusque in all her dealings with us. There was no element of seeming to care or welcome our business.

The twin room had only one extra blanket and we needed more. The beds felt so cold, I would hate to say damp. Sufficient towels in a small shower room.

But the worst part was the dining room. On both mornings for breakfast it was a complete disaster, Except you asked for it you did not get it. Milk for the tea /coffee. Cutlery for the brekfast was brought on request one piece at a time. toast was on request. Second morning we were given cups but no saucers. We did not blame the one person doing all of this, it had to be a management problem that one person was so inept and left to do it all. And while she was on her own, at least 6 chambermaids trooped in and out through the breakfast area with buckets and mops and cleaner etc. Staff for room cleaning was plentiful and at 9 pm on a sunday morning but no one to help out on the breakfast for the 6 tables occupied when we went there. We ended up bartering toast, butter, cutlery and saucers with other tables s as the need arose with other guests, who were also at wits end asking for water, cutlery etc. .

The dining area was noisy with three large screen TVs in it . Not welcoming or comfortable for a leisurely weekend breakfast which was what we wanted , the noise just added to the chaos.

It was the complete lack of welcome that annoyed us, this along with the utterly inept service for breakfast . We did tell Miss Brusque at the desk of our sentiments and she told us the waitress was great at her job and easily handled 18 and more breakfasts most mornings..... No acknowledgement of our comments was made on the bill.
It was a miserable experience from a hotel point of view though we greatly enjoyed our time in East Kilbride itself.

My friend was having a party at the hotel, so my partner and I thought we would look into booking a room for the night as we were at the party the room is a discounted price. We looked at there website and seen the pictures of the rooms, and thought yes very nice rooms. When we arrived and parked in the car park I looked at the outside windows of the rooms and the curtains were all dirty looking and hanging out the windows, not a good start. We checked in at reception which was fine, the lady seemed friendly and helpful. We got the key to our room and went upstairs, all the carpets have seen better days as they were all stained. Got to our room door and went to put the key in and noticed our handle was hanging off the door. The room was nothing at all like any of the ones in the pictures on the web page. It was tiny the bed was pushed up against the wall the buttons on the tv were broken. All area's of the floor were creaking, there was a cable running along the floor between the bathroom and bedroom which could be a hazard. The windows were really old and ours was cracked. My partner had a shower, 10 minutes later the manager came to the room and said that she had water coming down from the ceiling in reception as our room was above it, not surprised water came down as we pointed out to her the holes along the wall in the bath, she said oh well another job for the repair man. We had very little sleep as people came and went out the front door all night which was really really loud from our room. When we checked out they had the bottle to ask for the full price of £70 for that room, we had to explain that we were getting a discount because we were at the party, which should have been noted when we arrived anyway. I would never use or recommend this place to anyone ever.

From the masses of littler outside, the unmarked hotel enterance (there are three) to the dark dismal reception desk, we should have known that this was only the beginning. We have stayed at many hotels and I have yet to write a bad reciew about any of them. We are both in our forties and are by and large easy going.....But....if you want woken up at 6am each morning (by workmen staying at the hotel), floorboards that creak loudly, windows rattling all night in your room, your breakfast delived by an elderly woman with a smokers cough splattered all over you and your plate, a receptionist who never answers the bell at reception (on 3 seperate occassions, nor answers the in-house phone). We realised on rising that we had not been told what time breakfast is so you call and call several times with no answer, so you try to shower and dress quickly to go and find out to be told you missed it by 5-10 mins. No apologies from them nor any suggestions of help even though you advised you had been calling them for 30-40 mins prior. Then this is the place for you. The laugh is that we spent 3 days in the Millenium Hotel in Glasgow prior to this and only paid an extra £5 per night each (there were two of us) for the privlage. There friendly, welcoming staff served you breakfast with a smile and warm greetings, the reception between the two are chalk and cheese, try them and find out for yourself. I wanted my partner to love scotland as I want us to move up there. I was doing really well showing him everything but most of all the people, they are amazing, sense of humour, welcoming, everyone talks to you...then we stayed at the Torrance Hotel in East Kilbride and . They have recently done up the bar and put in large tv's but at no time did we see more than 6 people in the bar. The rest of the hotel was dingy at best, with mould up our bathroom walls, a little elbow grease and some anti-mould spray could have sorted it out. The place is un-loved, un-cared for and the staff seem to hate being there, either that or they just love making guests feel unwanted!!!!!!!!!!! It such as shame really as in the right hands this could be a lovely hotel.

Welcoming traditional village hotel in walking distance to Scotland's largest undercover shopping and leisure centre in East Kilbride. East Kilbride has many local attractions including Village Theatre, Golf Courses, Ten Pin Bowling, Ice Skating, Odeon Cinema and is only 7 miles from Glasgow city centre. Built in 1773 by General Stuart of Torrance as a cotton-spinning mill and workers' houses the building in Torrance Square provided a focus for town life. In its many incarnations the popular Torrance Hotel has also housed a school, a shop and a Coaching Inn, but it has always been at the heart of East Kilbride. The building has retained all its original character and charm. We have 20 comfortable bedrooms including the newly refurbished Honeymoon Suite for 2007. Enjoy a meal in our warm and friendly restaurant or lounge bar which caters for a wide range of food from traditional meals to bar snacks. We are a 5 minute walk from the local train station which will take you straight into Glasgow's Central Station which runs every half hour. If more information is required then do not hesitate to ask our friendly receptionist staff. We would like to advise guests that there will be no bar or restaurant facilities for the next 4 months. We are undergoing a major refurbishment to improve the services to the guests in the future. ... more   less
