Doubletree by Hilton, Dunblane-Hydro
Ranked #1 of 3 Hotels in Dunblane
Reviewed 24 November 2013

The hotel is over rated, yes it is a beautiful building (although round the back is not!), but it is nothing different inside to any other Hilton or large chain hotel. The rooms were clean, the food was OK and staff were polite. Overall nothing to get excited about.

Room Tip: Stirling wing offers a lovely view of the car park and can be noisy!

My wife and I spent two nights in this hotel recently. ( mid november). I have to say it does not warrant a four star rating.. The hotel is definitely showing its age. We had a standard room in the Stirling wing which was quite good, clean and enough space and storage. Bathroom also good. however, the housekeeping was just none existent .Room was not cleaned over our stay and bed clothes were just pulled up and left. Hospitality tray ran out of tea etc and was nor replaced had to call desk to eventually have this done. Television did not work but this was fixed after reporting matter. The Kale Yard restaurant in the very dark and drench dinning room leaves a bit to be desired. Great play is made of the name Nick Nairn who presents dishes on the menus as his signature dishes. I tried two of them and they were both. Very poor. Smoked salmon was sent back, so hard and dried up. The special Scottish beef burger was just awful, tough and overcooked getting towards burned. The bun and dressing we're cheap and nasty. The only thing I could eat off the plate was the chips! Weather Mr? Nairn was actually in the kitchens is a moot point, I have a sneaky feeling his name is just a front. Anyway come on Nick you can do better than this I am very surprised you let you name be associated with some of these dishes. Fortunately, not all the food was poor. One or two of the dishes were reasonable, the fish was good. Service in the dinning room was good and the staff were polite and attentive. All in all you get what you pay for on a deal package. There is nothing to do in the hotel in the evenings. One can sit in the bar and have a very expensive drink but that's it Wines in the dinning room also expensive for what they are. Bottle of house wine £21.50 ! Doubt if we would return to this hotel.

Room Tip: So many different rooms in the old and new parts of hotel what you get is pot luck on the standard p...

Dear GarrodScotland,
Thank you for your review. I would like to take this opportunity to apologise if we failed to meet your expectations on this occasion and I will ensure your comments regarding your meal are passed onto our kitchen brigade.
We are lucky to have such a beautiful building with 2 sections of bedrooms including Traditional bedrooms with character nooks and crannies in the main building and modern bedrooms in the Stirling Wing which can offer guests the space and amenities expected in a modern hotel. I am disappointed with the level of housekeeping you experienced on your second day and I will address this with the Head Housekeeper.
Kind Regards

Our return to the Doubletree by Hilton Dunblane hydro was everything we had come yo expect of this excellent hotel. Check in quick and efficient, a lovely superior suite allocated with non less than a four poster bed....oh yes and a view to dye for from both the lounge and bedroom.
We had taken advantage of their autumn offer of DBB including a bottle of the finest Prossecco and true to their efficiency, this was awaiting our arrival in our room.
We dined in both nights and had a first class meal on both occasions with excellent attentive service. The wines were rather good too, and for once they had my favourite desert wine so often lacking from other Hilton's so top marks to food and beverage manager.
Excellent breakfast both mornings and the staff coped well with the volume of customers !!
Spa also very good, only draw back was getting wet from the hotel to the leisure facilities, but then at the end of the day I was going for a swim and sauna !!
Look forward to our return.

Room Tip: Upgrade to superior room with vista view over Perthshire

Dear salm0n1,
Thank you for taking the time to post such a positive and glowing review following your relaxing stay at Dunblane and I will ensure your comments are shared with our team.
Due to the Victorian construction of the building and the layout of the overall site it was not possible to have our leisure facilities accessed directly from the main building and the decision was taken to build it a short walk away as this was still a facility we wanted to offer our guests.

A return for another excellent break of exceptional value. The food was superb as before and the staff very efficient. We shall return. The room was a little small, particularly the shower room but everything was spotless. Dinner was first class, as before. Congratulations to the chef and staff. Last time ( early June 2013) the Spa was closed for refurbishment but this time we swam and made use of the steam room and sauna - all facilities were very clean and the staff most helpful.
This is an ideal centre for visiting the Trossachs.

Stayed two nights in this hotel in November. Staff coikd not have been nicer or more helpful. Jane, poppy, amy, ross come to mind but all excelled. The setting is beautiful - high above the town amidst mature trees and lots of grass. Dunblane is a pleasant village a short walk from the hotel. All in alla lovely place to base yourself to tour the area.

Having just returned from a weekend with friends I cannot praise the staff and hotel highly enough. Very warm and efficient service from check in to departure:) Food in restaurant very good
All three rooms had lovely front facing view and were adequately furnished. Nice surprise when there was a knock on the door and a card and choccies were handed in for my upcoming birthday:) The staff are definate strength of this hotel and I cannot praise the restaurant staff highly enough for their courteous and efficient service. A special mention for Mark who served our table both nights lovely lad who also demonstrated a knowledge of area and things to do.
Will definitely be back

The meals in the hotel where first class. The room we were given was not the best, no heating except for a fan heater- room was either too warm or to cold. No remote for the television, room door did not lock from the inside- complained and was given different room - this had just been decorated and was very nice.

Room Tip: Rooms in the extension are further away from noise and have just been newly decorated

Good Afternoon Eyesblue
Thank you for your recent review and I am pleased the more modern style of the bedrooms in our Stirling Wing were more to your liking as opposed to the bedroom in the Victorian main building.
If you plan to visit us again please do not hesitate to request a bedroom in the Stirling Wing at the time of booking and we will endeavour to meet your request.
