Stayed here with my husband and another couple March 16th for 1 night on a 5pm deal. On arrival were greeted with a very friendly staff member and very quickly shown to our rooms. the young staff were extremely polite and helpful. The rooms were lovely. We stayed in no. 5 and had a huge king size bed and although not plush were delightful with the extra touches of Tunnocks tea cakes with your coffee and tea provided. The restaurant was very nice with again very attentive staff and had a lovely dinner. Our breakfast in the morning was again a delight and nothing any bother for the young staff. The manageress, I presume, was exrtremely helpful and showed us the small chapel they have or intimate weddings and christenings. It was lovely and we will be recommending this to our friends and will be back, even if just for lunch or dinner.

Room Tip: room 5 large king size bed

A quirky and quietly placed interesting small hotel that punches above its weight. Enormous comfy bed, with view of the cathedral outside (fear not - no striking bells). The restaurant is very pleasant, modern but comfortable and the food very good and not skimped. Could do with some more pudding choices though. Loved the little chapel outside in the back garden - ideal and atmospheric for a small wedding followed by reception in the hotel function room.

Room Tip: We had to book five weeks ahead to get a double room. Staff will advise if only a 'small twin o...

I recently stayed here and felt that the rooms although aesthetically pleasing were somewhat lacking. The bed is far too small to be advertised as a double, the tv in the room is tiny and in a difficult position to even use anyway. Whilst there the hot water was off and despite a number of calls to reception nothing seemed to be done about this and I was forced to brave it.

However the staff were brilliant and food was excellent. It has the feel of a Hotel that's finding it's feet and I'm sure in a yr or so most problems will be ironed out.

Stayed on a 5pm dinner, bed and breakfast deal and were given room 1. This has a tiny "double" bed no more than 4ft across. The bathroom is disabled access set up as a wet room with a rubber floor and white plastic sheeting on the walls from floor to ceiling. It was exactly what you would find in a large hospital. While I appreciate the need for disabled access there is no reason for the bathroom not to be welcoming and warm, it had no heating! The wash hand basin should have been in a dolls house and the tiny mirror was set so any able bodied person had to crouch to make any use of it. We were hugely disappointed after having read the reviews. When complained on checking out the response was "oh" with no attempt to take a note of the complaint. We won't be back.

We stayed here in a 5pm deal which was a Christmas present. We arrived at 7pm and reception was closed so we checked in at the restaurant which was not a problem. Our room was spacious , well furnished and cannot be faulted.
When we booked the hotel we also booked dinner for 8pm. We had received an e mail prior to our arrival stating there was a tapas evening on that night so when we sat down we opted for that but could have chosen from main menu. The food was plentiful but not to my taste which was my own fault ,not theirs . The problem we had was by 9pm we had been served starters , 6/7 tapas dishes and dessert ! We felt the staff couldn't get us out quick enough. I even heard the chef moaning at his staff to hurry up as he didn't want to be there till 10pm. We were still at our table when chef popped head in and asked how many folk they had left in.
We did mention this to the lady who appeared to be in charge but she said it was tapas and it was served quickly. Not in the tapas restaurants we go to ! We didn't even have choice of whether we wanted a break before dessert.
We were also asked to give a time we would attend for breakfast which is a bit unusual as you can normally just go between certain times. We decided to give it a miss and left around 0930 hrs . When checking out the receptionist didn't even bother to ask his our stay was and had virtually no conversation with us other than to tell us how much we owed. Quite a snooty attitude. Shame as it was lovely place but feel its a Christmas present ruined.

My husband and I have just returned from the Old Churches House after a 2 day break. Total relaxation from beginning to end. Our room was well furnished, spotlessly clean, comfortable and warm. The Restaurant provided a varied menu for breakfast and dinner with first class food being served on both occasions. Management and all staff were extremely welcoming and helpful. So delighted were we with our stay that we have booked again for May. Looking forward to it already.

Room Tip: I don't think a tip is needed to pick a good room as I am sure they will all be of the same qual...
