Sad to say, what would have otherwise been a perfectly pleasant stay was completely overshadowed by the intense heat and stuffiness of the bedrooms. ( I have now tried 4!) this heat rendered it possible for me to sleep- the temperature guage showing 28 celcius even when the air conditioning was supposedly on. These horrendous nights where accompanied by one 24 hours with no hot water at all. Combined, this completely overshadowed the friendly staff and otherwise very comfortable rooms.
I would therefore most definately not recommend this as a place to stay.
Temperature control is fundamental in a place where no windows open. Very poor show.

Looking for a good hotel in the centre of St Helens is not easy - this one easily fits the bill though! I found the staff very helpful at all times and the rooms, corridors etc were spotlessly clean. I was worried about some of the reviews stating it needs refurbishment but the only evidence I saw of this was when I used the stairwell rather than the lifts. The place has clearly been revovated in recent times and I wouldnt hesiatate to rcommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in St Helens.

As a long standing loyal member of the Hotel's Health Club at the abve hotel, which was formerly Hilton & Park Inn. I feel my continued support doesn't justify the regular breakdowns of the Health Club. I am talking about the fluctuating pool temperature (very cold) unsuitable for over 50 year olds. Steam Room breaking down regularly and Jaccuzzi Hot Tub breaking down.
I should not have to make regular phone calls to ascertain what is working and what is not. I have 'Frozen' my membership a few times in the hope that the faults would be fixed. The situation remains the same.

Room Tip: The Hotel is located in the middle of the town

Our visit to St Helens was to assess the venue for corporate events as well as looking at other venues in the area. We found the staff warm and responsive to our needs especially when the heating in one of our rooms didn't work - a blow heater was soon found to make our stay more comfortable. We stayed for three nights with two adjoining rooms ideal for our group - the rooms were modern, well equipment and very clean.

There is good access from the main road and plenty of car parking in front of the hotel. Glass front gives the hotel a modern feel however the reception area was consistently cold with the reception doors permanently open over our three night stay (day and night on cold days?) - the receptionists seemed to be coping very well with the adverse temperatures however as a customer you felt the cold on arrival, going down to breakfast/evening meals and leaving the hotel.

Evening meals was a lonely experience with few guests experiencing the food and when they had an event on our first night (in a separate room) the service/attentive nature of the staff suffered with simple things like bread had to be chased/basics of looking after customers in the restaurant. Throughout our stay there was no bottled still water available in the restaurant for our party even though reassurance was given that some would be available the next night - we had to resort to bringing our own bottle water into the hotel to get around this missed opportunity for a sale (with their permission). Dessert options were poor and we resorted to the children's menu for a few better choices. Overall the evening meals were good and were certainly received well by our group.

The Breakfast area was cold and a fleece or a jumper is recommended to fend off the room temperature - one day the main doors were left open from the reception so it was particularly uncomfortable. Room was very spacious and the breakfast met our expectations.

Swimming pool was a real bonus and made up for some of the other areas. There is also a well equipment gym should you feel the need.

I would hesitate to bring clients to the hotel until the front reception doors were fixed although for a family break we would come again to take advantage of the indoor swimming pool which was the main highlight of the hotel.

I stayed here on a business trip in July. The hotel is right next to the main road opposite the Pilkingtons factory (ignore the satnav for directions, if you are approaching from the south, you need to go right around the roundabout and back down the dual carriageway the way you have come), so it is easy to find.

The hotel had just been taken over when I went there, and it was in the process of being overhauled. The communal areas were in places a little tired-looking, but the rooms were amazing! Without doubt one of the best hotel rooms I have ever been in. Very luxuriously appointed, and despite the close proximity to the road it was virtually soundproof. I don't think the air-conditioning was working (or maybe I just operated it wrongly as the room seemed to get hotter when I turned it on, despite lowering the temperature) but I would definitely stay there again.

Spent a couple of nights here.
Rooms very spacious, clean & comfortable.
Breakfast very good.
Included dinner average.
Staff generally helpful but not all our requests were made.
Shame we didn't have more time to enjoy all the facilities.

Lovely place. Very good size room, clean, fresh design. Nice bathroom. Plugs next to bed, yeah!!! A kettle that's plugged in, at a convenient place, not in some draw or miles from the nearest plug. Plenty of space to put things, in the room as well as in the bathroom. Lots of power plugs. But without the doubt the best thing is the bed, in particular the duvet. The bed is super comfy and huge. But the duvet is even better, it's massive and fluffy, and feels great. The kind if duvet that makes you want to stay in bed all day with a good book and a cup of tea. The kind of duvet that makes you late. The kind of duvet you want to have at home. If only my suitcase was big enough. Joking!!!!
Service is also super friendly
