Le Chatox is a beautifully appointed family home from which enjoy a beautiful and relaxing part of France. Access to skiing, cycling, walking or sightseeing in an uncrowded environment is unparalleled and at the end of the day being able to relax in the luxury of Le Chatox makes it the perfect holiday location.
We have just had a busy week staying at La Chatox and what a fantastic time we had. A stunning location set right in the mountains perfect for an early morning climb or just relax and enjoy the surroundings. We particularly enjoyed Annecy with its beautiful lake, with loads to do and places to eat. If your feeling adventurous the canyons are certainly worth a try.
We look forward to returning again, there's so much to do and see a week was not long enough!! Paul and Wendy who own La Chatox certainly make it feel like home and were on hand if you needed it. Thank you both.
We had an amazing week's stay in Le Chatox and Les Bauges and fell in love with the area due to its gorgeous scenery, peacefulness and friendly locals. Le Chatox is a very comfortable 'home from home' which really added to our holiday. There is tonnes to do in the area and within a 10 minute drive you can complete a three hour walk without meeting a soul. The wildlife is plentiful as are the stars at night. Paul and Wendy are the most amazing hosts ever and genuinely want to do everything possible to make your stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. We wouldn't hesitate to go back because we created some amazing, family memories during the holiday. A truly special place. Thanks Paul and Wendy.
Just returned from an amazing stay at Le Chatox chalet. We have stayed all over France over the last 15 years but nothing comes close to the quality and location of "Le Chatox". The chalet is spacious and extremely comfortable with everything to make it a home from home which the owners Paul and Wendy are very keen to provide. An additional benefit is the large garage underneath the property otherwise known as the "cave" which provides ample storage space for bikes etc, but there is also a full size table tennis table and dart board which provided hours of very competitive family entertainment.
The help and advice Paul and Wendy provided prior to the holiday was excellent and they genuinely want their guests to enjoy their stay. You are provided with a very informative "Le Chatox pack" prior to departure which provides all the information you require about the property and the local area. Paul and Wendy are keen cyclists and there are numerous maps and suggested rides in the chalet. My favourite ride was Paul's breakfast ride which is a 16km ride with numerous hairpin bends with fantastic views. Top quality e-bikes are also available to hire from Paul and Wendy and are highly recommended for less serious cyclists and are also extremely useful for a quick morning trip into the local charming village (Le Chatelard) for the bread and croissant breakfast run!
The local area is stunning with numerous activities and places to visit. Lake Annecy is obviously the biggest attraction and the old town is great for wandering around with great selection of restaurants etc. and we would definitely recommend hiring a small self drive motorboat on the lake. The cycle ride around Lake Annecy is another must do as it is mostly flat and nearly all on a purpose built cycleway, mountains one side and the lake on the other, fantastic ride! There are a number of lakeside beaches at Lake Annecy which provide access to the crystal clear waters that are wonderful to swim in. We visited a number of them but our favourites were at Talloires (small fee payable but lots of facilities including a diving board and pontoons), Sevrier and Doussard. We also visited Chatillon on Lake Bourget which is a very scenic drive from Le Chatox where we had a lovely meal at La Plage restaurant overlooking the lake. We also visited Aillions-Margeriaz which is the local ski resort in winter but in summer you can use the ski lifts to get to the top of the mountain for spectacular views. There is also a heated outdoor swimming pool at Allions which was great value and very clean.
There is also a local swimming lake at Lescheraines which is about 10 mins drive from Le Chatox and has a lakeside beach and tennis courts for hire with a excellent lakeside bar and restaurant. Our teenage children also really enjoyed the canyoning which can booked through Terres d'Altitude who have an office in Le Chatelard.
I cannot recommend this property enough and we will definitely return. Thank you Paul and Wendy for a fantastic and memorable holiday. We have been well and truly Chatoxed!
This was our 3rd visit to this lovely chalet, set in the hills of Le Massiff de Bauges in the charming
village of Le Chatelard. We spent a very relaxing week in “Le Chatox” in the middle of July, enjoying the fabulous scenery, the weather (around 30'C every day), and the beautiful view of “booby”mountain that you see from the balcony. Le Chatox has everything you need, whether you want to relax and stay in or around the chalet, or make the most of seeing the local area by using the
ebicycles which are available for hire from the owners. We used them to ride to another village: Lescharaines, where there is a lovely lake that you can swim in and another for water sports. We also cycled around the local area – the ebikes coming in very handy on the hilly roads. There are some great walks in the area. We walked from Lescharaine to Le Cascade Pissieu and on another occasion we walked along the river near to the village of Aillon-le-Vieux.
The highlight of our holiday was visiting the lovely old town of Annecy, hiring a boat on Lac Annecy and swimming in the lake. But we also went to Albertville, Chambery, Aix-le-Bains, Lac Bourget, Chanaz and Yvoire, all of which are well worth a visit.
Thanks Paul and Wendy for all the helpful tips, advice, etc. It’s got to be 5 stars!
It’s been a truly fantastic stay. Everyday a cycle ride, most days a swim. Paul has done the breakfast cycle ride as his second ride a number of times. Swimming at Annecy maquisats also a highlight. Last night poisson rouge and lots of fabulous meals. Everything to repeat again and more to do for a first time. Truly however the electric bike (s) was transformational as I wouldn’t have been able to cycle here without it. Very comfy very well equipped chalet and the owners go out of their way to ensure you make the most of your trip
Our 2nd visit to Le Chatox but first ski visit. Le Chatox didn’t disappoint again fantastic accommodation in a perfect location. 6 days of perfect skiing at Aillons Margeriaz, 20 min drive from Le Chatox. Great evenings in Le Chatox playing table tennis and darts, visit to Annecy for Fondue a must!!!
Look forward to our next visit thank you Paul and Wendy for sharing your wonderful home
