We stayed at the Villa Margherita at the end of August and I couldn't rate it high enough. Lovely hotel and helpful and friendly staff. We went there with our 4 year old little boy who loved the pool and the gardens are very pretty and really well kept. The croissants at breakfast were really tasty and go very nicely with a cappuccino! Golfo Aranchi itself is really nice, it has a good range of restaurants (our favourite was the pizzeria called Caprisa down by the train crossing, but you should book in peek season as its very popular) and a lovely promenade to walk along. There is an Italian market along the street in the evenings and there is an Italian ice cream shop only a few doors from the hotel which has ice cream to die for!
We spent most days at Porto Retundo beach which is about a 20 minute drive from the hotel but well worth the drive. The sea is crystal clear and you can rent sunbeds and umbrellas for the day . The Magic Beach Bar restaurant which is right on the beach did some of the best pasta I have ever eaten. I would definitely recommend the seafood pasta!
I would really recommend a car to get the most out of Sardinia as there are so many lovely beaches to see. Porto Cervo is worth a morning visit to see how the other half live but unless your loaded I wouldn't stay any longer.
All together we loved our trip and cant wait to hopefully return next year!!!
