“Something special - Etwas Besonderes”
Reviewed 2 October 2012

Nein, eine Minibar gibt es nicht. Auch keinen 90 Zoll Flachbildschirm TV. Braucht aber auch kein Schwein. Was man bekommt ist eben etwas Besonderes.

No, there is no minibar. There's also no 90 inch flatscreen TV. Who needs that stuff anyway? What you get is something special. A cosy, quirky hotel, nice rooms, helpful and friendly personell and - of course - Peppe, who looks after all of his guests and just might grab a bottle of red whine and sit down with them once in a while. If you're looking for a holiday that isn't spent in a 5-star-All-Inclusive fortress, but want to experience Sicily for yourself, this is what you're looking for.
Do try and get a room with a garden view and preferably in the upper storeys. It can get noisy at night. This is Italy, after all.

Only ate in the restaurant which is on the seafront. Food was just ok. What I totally did not like about this restaurant (on the beach) was the atmosphere. I just could not put my finger on it, but I felt very uncomfortable here, much as though we were not welcome. Waiters were not at all friendly. Could not wait to eat up our food and leave.

Interesting hotel in the middle of Letojanni. Be aware though, if you're expecting what other "3" star hotels are offering then you may be disappointed. No mini bar, no fridge, 21" CRT TV with 2 Italian channels that mostly don't work and no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms. I consider the lack of these as a bonus since there's little incentive in hanging around the room, you get out and enjoy the town. What you do get is an interesting hotel decorated in a unique/weird style based around Peppe's "artwork" It's a cosy place with loads of different nooks & crannies. There is a TV room with a flat screen TV which nobody ever seemed to use. The rooms themselves are OK with comfortable beds, good aircon and decent storage. Breakfast was OK with cheeses, meats, yoghurts, pastries, fruit juices, fruit etc etc. Eggs are €2 each but if it's your birthday you get one free. Staff are mostly friendly and go out of their way to help. No problems either speaking or understanding English. The beach is about 30 seconds over a small road and the sun loungers and parasols are free to guests. There are noise problems with rooms on the road side as scooters and cars are noisy though this seems to subside after midnight. If you are a light sleeper do request a garden view room. Overall if you like a quirky , well located hotel with character then consider Peppe's but if you want the trappings of a sterile 3 star hotel then maybe this isn't for you. We had a great time.

Room Tip: Light sleepers should ask for a garden side room.

Stayed here for a week in august,a most unusual hotel, on arrival you will notice loads of paintings by the owner all over the place,he has to be having a laugh though,we had to change room as the street noise was too much in the morning,we were moved to a much nicer room the next day,but dont expect a sea view, not a chance, the breakfast is a joke, ham, cheese, and machine coffee tastes awful if you want an egg its 2euro extra, yes folks they come from a golden hen,you are also marked off a big list when you arrive for breakfast, which i nicknamed schindlers list, the main restaurant is across the street at the beach,no pizzas here though,a limitted menu most days, but food was good ,all the same, but the decor is a little dowdy and needs upgrading, you really miss a fridge in the room ,and the tv is just 3 italian channels and the worst remote control i ever seen, the staff here are very good and peppe welcomes everybody but he needs to make a few changes to his hotel,he is the first in lettojanni slnce 1965,and you will need to be very laid back if you stay here,i was glad we were only staying a week, peppe has his own style but needs to come into the 21st century,a three star hotel should provide basic things, the place would be so much better,i think peppe is a bit of a penny pincher,so be warned, its not the Ritz!!!

Room Tip: Get one away from the main street 2nd floor if you can!

We booked here because the opinions on Tripadvisor and others. The reality is very different. Take advice of the last few opinions. The confort is very reduced. Wifi is ok at the garden but not at our room. No seaviews or similar. The only thing near to the beach is the restaurant which is located at the other side of the street. The breakfast is unacceptable. Warm doubtful ham, Soup of coffee, just to make sure take the preproduced items or have breakfast away. I don't understand if they want you to go to their restaurant at the beach how they dare to put that kind of breakfast. The personal was mostly unhelpful. They didn't help when we asked for ice cubes while there is no fridge at the room and there is a heat wave. We were happy that we only were there for 2 nights. I think they should change their way to do things or they going to have a lot of troubles.

we are a couple of guest at the hotel da Peppe, i did all my booking enticed by the photos that we are on the internet, but unfortunately the reality was not like the description.
i just found a property created after the war, and arranged on the occasion of pretty pictures but unfortunately are visible sign of aging. Only the truly excellent hotel staff very kindly , impossible find parking near the hotel, my room was old like all property the bathroom without door shower, with the shower water on the floor in totally rest of the room space, room not furnished of minibar or fridge or something like that , very hard because the sunny in sicily is very hot.
Breakfast buffet? just a table with no traditional products but standard product that found in all rest of the market shop.
After all is enough clean but i can't recommend this hotel to other futures visitors, perhaps only night.
The man in the restaurant told me that for the hotel business will be important to write a review on the web but honestly i can't say what is not true. Very good the food in hotel and nice because proximity to the sea.

stayed here for 2 weeks a while back. It is a most unusual hotel with a rather eccentric owner. Nooks and crannies everywhere but a nice patio area for breakfast. Our room looked out onto an overgrown vine in the courtyard where breakfast is served, so you need to be specific when booking a room.

Right across the street is the pebble beach (disappointed it wasn't a sandy beach - but that was due to false description from the Tour Operator).

Peppe has a restaurant overlooking the beach with excellent seafood - not exactly cheap but worth it to eat there once or twice. Staff very friendly and willing to help.

some nice traditional cafe / bars in the town and I would recommend taking a boat trip which sails down the coast with magnificent views of Mount Etna.
