“Stepping back in time of peaceful tranquility”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2013

A holiday trip over a weekend with friends from Delhi amazed me. A two hour journey out of the NCR transports one out of the rush and run of the city into a peaceful setting of this heritage property which, unassumingly retains its centuries old charm and character. Enhanced by the restrained graciousness of its owners who ensure all the comforts needed to leave behind the stress of everyday existence. Once refreshed and rested in our charming old world room we walked on the roofed terraces providing a 360d view of a vast vista of chequered fields. A quiet evening seated at the swimming pool we sipped our nimbu panis. The food freshly prepared and distinctly their home specialities was the terrific finale to the day. A transportation back in time and an ideal relaxation setting. Rose

Room Tip: My friends stayed in a ground floor room at the rear - something out of `Junoon' ! I had a room...

I spent a Sunday with my family at Kuchesar fort .The journey took us 1.5 hours from Noida. We went through green fields to a village to reach the fort. It had an old world charm. Met the owners there and they personally took us around some parts of the forts . Saw the relics, rare photographs and heard bygone stories of their ancestors.
Saw the pics when the fort was in ruins and how they reconstructed it piece by piece. This was truly inspiring. The rooms, the washrooms the decor, upholstery.. all had a vintage feel. The shape of the pool was very artistic. There were many peacocks all wound. We had tasty hot and fresh snacks and tea near the poolside and then played table tennis and badminton. Had a wonderful family time! Its a different experience.. had a warm, historic, earthy and a personal touch by the owners ... a wonderful place to rejuvenate and have a peep into a slice of history. Jyoti

Room Tip: the ones on the first floor have a good view and overlook the pool.

We went to raj rao vilas in jan 2011 on the 1st of jan.It was a bit difficult to get there as one has to go through the village roads but what was pleasant was that the hotel people called us and inquired where we were as they were expecting us and also were worried if we had lost our way or something. They were especially concerned about our lunch. It was pleasant to see our hosts so concerned.
Our room was not ready when we reached there yet they offered us another room to rest and freshen up in.We ate a fab lunch and in the meantime our actual room was ready. We loved the room. The decor is tastefully done keeping the old charm intact. The hosts are wonderful and warm people. They take care o ones needs..food is wonderful..limited yet fresh and tasty. The best part is that everything is in order. We loved the place.great for one night stay as there is not much to do around. We loved it.The place..the food and the lovely hosts made it worthwhile.

Room Tip: our room was on the first floor and we loved it.

This was an outing with friends. Since this place is easily accessible from Delhi we reached there from Delhi in about 2.5 hrs. The place is easy to find and you might confuse it with the other Kuchesar fort hotel but you just have to ask about Rao Raj Vilas and you will reach here. Since it is a village, the road from the highway would be like a village road but easily manageable.
This hotel is run by the family of the past rulers who came from Punjab to this area in UP. They have converted this section of the fort into a luxury hotel and have tried to keep the place as it is maintaining the vintage touch of the fort. On top of that they have made it luxurious by providing all the modern amenities here. There are all kind of outdoor activities to indulge here like Table Tennis, a beautiful swimming pool, Badminton court etc. They provide home-cooked delicious food. We had a delicious gobi ki sabzi and a lemon chicken.
Apart from this what makes you more comfortable is the warmth and ease of the owners. They will treat you like family and will make every possible effort to make you feel at home. They also arrange village tours on bullockcarts and tractors, boat ride in the Ganges, visit to local jaggery units etc.
This was a truely lovely experience for us and we would certainly like to visit the same place to spend a weekend.

Rao Raj Vilas is a family-owned place a short 2-3 hrs from Delhi. It's a good drive till the outskirts of Noida after which there is a double lane road with cyclists, two-wheelers, carts, tractors, autos and trucks. The final approach is through a single lane road passing through 2-3 villages. The property is also in a village.

They offer 10 rooms, all tastefully done up in traditional antique style and carry an old world charm. The uniqueness of the place lies in the people running the place. They own the property and treat you like a family guest rather than a hotel guest. They personally receive you and see you off. The food arrangements are personally looked after by the family and any food preferences are seriously considered; they will ask you in advance... We were travelling with a toddler and they were very attentive to the special food needs of the baby as well as one member of our group who was allergic to certain food items. Aman went out of her way to ensure food was delicious and satisfactory at every meal. Since the owners are around, the staff is also very attentive and efficient. Although sourced from around the property, they are not like some of the duds you meet at Neemrana hotels.

The fort has been renovated and care has been taken to retain the originality of structures and decor. The flooring in many rooms is original and some of the painted floor carvings added later with the help of local artisans just adds to the rustic charm of the place.

The hospitality extended by the family is the USP of Rao Raj Vilas which I would recommend for family get togethers and weekend breaks with a bunch of friends. There isn't much to do around there so they worked especially hard at ensuring a delectable buffet spread for meals with Indian and continental dishes. The spread is small but delicious. We were told that they organize picnics to the mango orchards in summer and boating expeditions to Ganga with a packed lunch in winters.

The family will regale you with tales of how they attained the title of Rao's, their transition from Hinduism to Sikhism and then how they put together the place and renovated it. They even give you a peek of the dining room and billiards room housed in their private quarters. Both areas are grand and maintained the way they used to be before going into neglect.

A big thank you to Charu, Aman, Anant and aunty for making our stay so comfortable and trip, memorable.

Room Tip: If you're looking to have a quiet time, opt for a room on the first floor even if it is pool fac...
