“Lovely friendly staff”
Reviewed 27 April 2014

The owners and staff were really attentive and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. We thoroughly enjoyed the food which was served to us in a variety of locations culminating in a candlelit dinner on the terrace above the detached villa to which we were kindly upgraded.

Other reviewers have said it all: it is a very tranquil spot and well off the beaten track. All the food was delicious. The staff could not have been more helpful and our visit was enhanced by attention from the owner and his daughter-in-law. We had lovely clean cavernous rooms and bathrooms, with every mod-con, and all worked. We were loaned binoculars to watch the kingfishers working the adjacent pond. A fantastic spot if you are en route from Jaipur to Udaipur, we wish we had stayed longer.

The hotel is a heritage building, comfortable large rooms and excellent food. However, having travelled around India before I was dismayed that our tour brought us to such a remote place. The villagers were friendly and did not mind being photographed, but the ride on the local train was more of a time-filler than interesting - the scenery was the same all along and although it winds up to the top of the plateau as a train ride it was not spectacular. If you just want to chill out and the weather is warm, it would be very relaxing, but I had booked for a cultural tour and was expecting temples and history. It takes a whole day to get there and all day to move on to Udaipur. You might like to fill that time with more fulfilling activities.

The owner is one of the former royal families and is keen to provide a good experience - but check the location, activities and especially the weather before booking. Some tours include it to provide "local experience" even in the cold winter months.

Ladies - beware the manager !! He grabbed me by the shoulders before I could move and kissed me Happy Christmas! I thought, impertinent but harmless. Next evening he was waiting outside my room - when I very sharply asked what he was doing there, he said he was putting the lights out! Our GA guide said that there had been a previous "misunderstanding" but nothing seems to have changed.

This is an out-of-the way place located in farm country. The setting is beautiful. There is a lagoon that is frequented by birds and a stable where the owner"s Marwari horses are sometimes kept. Dinner is served out of doors in front of the fireplace. You can walk on the local small roads and see farming done by women in colorful sarees or cows or water buffalos doing their regular strolls. This place gives you a real sense of rural India with the benefit of staying in large, comfortable rooms and being the beneficiary of excellent service.

Stayed with friends and family for a day during holi and enjoyed bird watching and photographed nearly twelve different type of birds. During village safari ,had a wonderful drive in vintage car in hilly and forest area with tea and snacks on foothills. Every member relaxed and enjoyed hospitality , good food, swimmimg and visit to animal shade.

Room Tip: Room 1,2 for excellent hill view.

We stayed here on the way from Jodhpur to Udaipur. We were the only guests so it was an amazing experience. The owner telephoned us on the way there to check if we wanted lunch, which we did. It was served on the balcony with an amazing view. Do go on the train ride and the village safari, it was fantastic, the open top Chevrolet was a treat. The food, levels of service were exemplary, do request a stay there, you will not regret it.

A little off the beaten path, but that's what makes this small hotel so special. A converted lodge, it has lovely rooms and bathrooms in the middle of a bird and wildlife sanctuary. The General Manager and his staff are warm and welcoming and are eager to show the beauty of this quiet spot. Like another reviewer, we were a little concerned about the lack of menus, but every meal was fresh and delicious and offered a seemingly unending array of dishes. Breakfast on the porch are lovely and one night, we had dinner outside, in a patio totally lit by stars and candlelight. Loved it.
