The rooms here were fine, standard hotel rooms really, nothing compared to the beautiful architecture of the communal areas like the lobby etc (although the hallways smelled funny). The location is perfect, right at the edge of the Plaza Mayor and almost literally built into the walls of the old town.

There are no tea and coffee making facilities in the room and the breakfast buffet downstairs is €16 per person. We mistakenly had breakfast there one morning expecting a small charge and couldn't believe it when we were asked to sign for €32. The Plaza Mayor is literally at your front door with lots of little cafes to pick up a light breakfast and everywhere does tapas, infact tonnes of places do free tapas with your drinks. The breakfast is lovely in Oquendo but it's definitely not work €16 when you can pop outside and sit in the sun for much less.

There is no free WiFi in the bedrooms, you have to pay €8.95 per device, per day. We stayed for 4 nights so it would have cost us an extra €71.60 to have the internet on a laptop and ipad in our room. There is free WiFi available in the lobby of the hotel and if you walk outside the door of the hotel there are numerous cafes on the Plaza Mayor offering free WiFi. If we had paid for internet and breakfast it would have cost an extra €200 for 4 days in the Palacio de Oquendo.

They also charge €9 daily for parking your car. We traveled by train so didn't have to deal with this.

I have stayed in numerous NH hotels in the past and have always been very happy with the character of the hotel - both aesthetically and quality of service. Also the NH hotel group are openly environmentally conscious. But I was disappointed with this hotel and felt like they were trying to squeeze extra money out of you at every point.

Stayed last night. Arrived late and went to room. We were a bit worried about smell in room, but decided that it may have been due to lack of use. Went out for dinner...came back and when opening door were disgusted by smell of fried foods. Went to reception to ask for a "smelly candle" or something...they must be used to these complaints, as the man in reception took out a spray can from a cupboard behind him, came to room and proceeded to "disenfect" by spraying almost a whole aerosol in the bedroom and bathroom! Quite hilarious actually, as the floors were so wet we had to be very careful entering bathroom and bedroom. Don't know what was worse, smell of cheap frying fat or chemicals from the spray! We were told hotel was full and no other rooms available, so tried to sleep....room 3, apart from being 1 metre away from an extractor fan, was also above reception/lobby. Full of people, so amazing amount of noise until everyone went to bed. This morning, woken up by staff/clients walking near room and other showers/toilets etc.
The towels in our bathroom smelt so much of fat that we didn't shower!!!
Everything was shoddy, doors hanging off frames etc. Only one toothbrush/shampoo/soap in a double room.
Staff really didn't want to know about problems, only wanted to charge everything and not at all helpful. Tried to get them to SMELL towels, but were too busy...
Beds were horrendous. Old fashioned, and probably old spring mattresses, cheap and thin sheets.
Bang&Olufsen TV's but in the 3 rooms booked, only one worked, and not very well.
I am a member of the NH "alliance club" and booked this hotel (3 rooms) based on past experience. Never again! Tried at reception to mention the problems, but was told to write everything on their form, nobody ( and I speak fluent Spanish) was willing to pass me to a hotel manager.

Gorgeous old building, although the room itself was a bit bland. Handy internet and printing facilities in the lobby, although not that cheap. Breakfast as ridiculously priced as always in hotels.

Could be hard to get staff's attention, and when I checked in, the guy on reception didn't bother to mention to me that there was a lift, or where it was. It's a complicated building, and after searching I didn't find it, so ended up lugging my bags up to the second floor before discovering that yes, there was a lift I could have used..!

Expensive for what it was, and particularly expensive telephone rates.

This NH hotel has all the necessary things you would need if you travel in the Spanish summer heat to Caceres e.g. UV filtered curtains, air conditioning, cool interior, soft downy pillows and bed.. we had a great rest in this hotel and loved the tasteful interior decoration.

The things that could improve are:
- parking: Caceres is an old town and finding parking space in the city is difficult. The only public parking really big enough and near enough to the Plaza Mayor and the Ciudad Monumental (Caceres old city quarters) is the Obispo Salazar parking at the plaza of the same name. However to get all the way from the parking to the NH hotel, you will have to haul your luggage up the stony stairs straight into Plaza Mayor and uphill to the hotel, all 300 metres.

So if you are heading there from the parking lot, with your back towards the parking lot, look for the first stone stairs on your right hand side. Go down it till the end, you will arrive at Plaza Mayor's corner with Calle Pintores, go along until you see the San Juan Church (it is easy to see as it has two statues of the Spanish Semana Santa cone hats and an old lady statue on the pavement). Then turn right and go through the shaded trees and there's the hotel.
Or you can also go down the stairs until you arrive Plaza Mayor, go straight towards Ayuntamiento you will see Calle Gran Via and then turn right walk up and on your left hand side is the hotel.

For parking fees, the hotel does make up for it by offering a promotion for parking fees. You hand the parking ticket to them whenever you want to take your car out of the parking lot, and they will give you a slip that says your parking fees will be charged to the hotel, then show the slip to the car park attendant and they will let you take your car out without needing to pay again. This option means the hotel will charge 9 euros per night for your car parked at the said parking lot. We checked and found that 9 euros per night is better than 15 or+ euros.

As for breakfast, they charged quite expensively. So do ask the receptionist if they have a deal. When we were there they offered a reduced price for breakfast which was ok. The breakfast was continental with an attempt to be health concious which might have worked if the fruits weren't smelling a bit funny in the morning heat.

Anyway, if you need a place to lay your weary limbs down after walking up and down the cobbled streets of Ciudad Monumental, this NH is not too bad. Caceres is charming even if it is a bit run down, and after a whole sunburnt day, a wide spacious super clean room to go back to is always comforting.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view towards the outside

According to NH this is one of its "Collection" hotels. Indeed, we don´t doubt it occupies an old building with lots of history, but the poor quality materials (probably the cheapest possible conglomerate doors - the bathroom doors are chipping off because of the shower. The carpets are worn out and fake wooden floors) are really disappointing. One gets the impression that just by having Bang&Olufsen TV sets NH can get away with it.
HOwever, NH can still get away with this hotel due to its superb location right next to the old quarter.
The stay was OK - the only negative point other than the "materials" was the fact that we only had one bath towel (we were told to inform the front desk immediately... the only problem is that one does not usually count the number of towels provided when entering the room) and a group of hotel guests who were extremely noisy at aroung 3 am (better quality doors would have helped).

The restoration of this building is excelent. The location is at the old part of the city.
It was a pity that there was a construction site on the center and it was not possible to visit the old part of the city. Internet costs about 10€, it is not gratis.
There is no parking for the guests, and to find a parking spot on the old town it is not easy neither cheap.

My wife and I spent 2 nights at his hotel. Please fin below our comments:

Pros:

- Location is excellent if you are a tourist. Near (short walking distance) the main square and attractions.
- Our room was new and modern (different from what I read in other comments at TripAdvisor).
- Nice old/historic building.
- The staff was helpful.
- Free internet.

Cons:
- There is a lot of stairs and nobody to help with the bags, what is a shame for a 4 stars hotel.
- There is no vallet service and the closest and overpriced car park is far far away. The hotel must need a vallet service!!!
- A lot of noisy during the night due to a restaurant close the hotel.
- Overpriced but good) breakfast.
