Lovely 'Town house' hotel in traffic free area of town. Excellent and friendly greeting and superb room (209) with balcony overlooking old city. Very well situated being only a short walk from a city gate and from the Plaza Mayor. Very good buffet breakfast.

Room Tip: Room 209 had balcony overlooking old city

I spent 3 nights in Caceres and enjoyed this hotel with just some minor issues. I stayed in room #211 and he price was only 70 euros a night. The hotel is well located - less than 5 minutes to the monumental quarter or the Plaza Mayor. The people workng reception are very nice and helpful though not alot of English spoken (normal for this area). The room itself was nice with a full length mirror and a decent sized bathroom. I was disappointed not to receive a room with a balcony or patio as I had requested.

The only reason why I probably wouldn't stay again is the shower - the hot water didn't last very long so I was rushed to take a shower each morning.

Breakfast was included in the rate but I wasn't very impressed. There was an assortment of juices, meats (no jamon) and cheese. It was supposed to last until 10:30 a.m. One day I arrived at 9:30 and had to wait over 15 minutes for bread. It arrived warm but hard. Another day I arrived late (10:15) and there was no fruit, water or juice - and no one seemed to want to replinish. I'd almost rather have a room rate 5 euros less and not include breakfast.

However, I did eat lunch in the restaurant 2 days in a row - an incredible value for 12 euros including wine. The cheese course alone could have cost this much. Service was very friendly.

Hotel Albarragena is a lovely hotel in a fantastically scenic town. For reasons too complex to recount here we ended up staying in three different rooms in the hotel in our time in Caceres, and its worth noting there is some potential for confusion when booking a particular type of room, as all the rooms are a little different.

The hotel website and third party broking sites like Expedia and Hotels.com indicate that the hotel has one single room, eight doubles, eight superior doubles and one junior suite. The hotel management however believe they have three junior suites, although the standard of these rooms varies significantly.

Room 209 is by far the best (and is one you are most likely to see when booking a junior suite on the broker sites) having four full-length windows and a lovely terrace overlooking the hills to the east. It does however overlook the bar area, which is open until 3am, and industrial strength earplugs are a necessity on friday and Saturday nights. By contrast Room 201, also a “junior suite”, has only a small window onto the street, which is on the late night reveller’s route, and is nowhere near as charming. Our third room, room 208, was a smaller double, but also has the benefit of a terrace area.

That confusion aside, the hotel is very good, and the staff only to happy to assist in any way they can. (Our request to reception to have a terrace light bulb changed saw the petit female receptionist hauling a ladder into the lift and up to our room to get the job done.) The only downsides (aside from the already mentioned weekend noise issues) are that there isn’t a lot of variety in the continental breakfasts, and the single full bed width pillow may not be to everyone’s taste. Typically for Spain, the restaurant and room service is also only available from 8.30pm.

It would help also to brush up on your Spanish, as there isn’t a lot of English spoken here or anywhere else in Caceres.

What a wonderful surprise. This gem of a hotel is located within a short walk of the main historic area. We were given a huge, spacious room (it might even be considered a suite) with windows on three sides and a private terrace. The large bath had a jetted tub but no shower. The breakfast room was cozy and the breakfast had something to satisfy anyone.
The staff was warm and attentive and even suggested an area on the street where we could park our car for free.
The room and public areas of the hotel exuded old world charm, with its antiques, art and timeless surfaces. It is exactly what one would expect when booking a historic hotel. And, at a terrific price!

We were so surprised to find this amazing hotel at such reasonable rates. It is right at the edge of the ciudad monumental and has a unique style. I believe it was once the Governor's residence and clearly subsequently divided into grand apartments with elegant lounges and quirky through areas with an haute bourgeois, turn of the century style. Our room was simple and again elegant with excellent shower/bath. An enormous date palm was perfectly framed by the window and we could hear the nearby cackle of chicken while the evening sky filled with swallows. Church bells raised us at seven am for breakfast and at 7 pm following the siesta in time for drinks and a stroll. Breakfast was charming though the hotel could make better use of an outside terrace. Between strolls through the ciudad monumental, we spent happy hours on a delightful terrace bar and we ate an enjoyable supper in the dining room. From our first contact by e-mail the staff were unusually friendly and helpful and throughout our three night stay that attitude was continued to such an extent that we were sorry to leave and continue our journey
Our understanding is that this is a new hotel which has not yet gained an entry in the guides, so get it while you can
