Very friendly waiter who put up with our poor attempt to translate the menu. Bit confusing and not quite sure what we ordered but it was all very nice. In the back streets and not a brilliant location but ok if you want somewhere a bit out of town and suited us as near our hotel.

My father brother and I were on a golf weekend at the nearby Montecastillo resort. We were cruising around Jerez on a Sunday afternoon looking for an authentic Spanish culinary experience. We stumbled across La Tasca which is situated close to a small square with a few bars and restaurants scattered around. The crowds attracted us as we drove slowly by so we decided to park up and look around. The locals were all having a good time drinking and eating so we figured whatever was in store would be authentic. Towards the rear of the square (away from the main road) and slightly to the right we found 'La Tasca'.

A little quieter than the bustle in the square, it seemed ideal for our overdue lunch. A few extended families were enjoying a leisurely meal in relaxed surroundings. We were given a warm welcome by the head waiter (who I would guess is the proprieters son). He led us to a spacious table and spoke in perfect English with a subtle sense of humour. He guided us through the menu and made us feel totally at ease.

Complimentary nibbles and an aperitif of local sherry were served immediately we sat down. When the main course arrived he dutifully filleted the fish that my father had ordered and treated him with the utmost respect.

After the meal we ordered coffee and they insisted on giving us a complimentary liqueur It was a really enjoyable experience.

I plan to go back to Montecastillo next year and I will definitely visit 'La Tasca'.
