“Nice but Expected More”
Reviewed 29 June 2010

This hotel was not as nice as advertised, although the other hotels in the area looked pretty run-down. The pool was not open and the spa area looked very sketchy. The rooms were at the back of the property, a bit of a walk uphill from the lobby with luggage (would've loved a bell hop). However, you pass a nice garden area on your way. Our room faces the courtyard and was quite large with a very spacious bathroom. There was not free wireless in the rooms but they had ethernet cords to borrow. The receptionists were very helpful in recommending places to see/ things to do. The hotel location was close to the city center and just a few blocks from the Real Escuela Andaluza del Arte Ecuestre.

We booked this hotel through Hotels.com over 3 months before arrival. We arrived to check in after a 12 hour journey to be told that the hotel was overbooked and we could not stay. I asked why our reservation had been selected, given we had booked so long ago, but got no reply. I also asked why we were not made aware of it earlier - again no reply. We were bundled into a taxi to be sent to another hotel (whilst the couple behind us WERE checked in!!) They even left us to pay the taxi! (We refused)

Perhaps they got a better offer for our room, or perhaps the explanation was worse. Either way I wouldn't recommed that anyone took the risk of reserving to stay in this hotel.

Our visit here coincided with the most rain since records began in this area, and the whole area was flooded. There were leaks in the hotel, as we found in most other places we visited this time. The hotel is an old sherry bodega, reception is in the older buildings and a whole new complex of rooms is in a separate building, so you have to walk your luggage up there from the car park. Lovely grounds, well maintained, with lots of palm trees etc. Room was large and comfortable. We were disappointed that the restaurant was not serving meals, but the breakfast was very average, so maybe that was just as well. There is a separate spa building with gym equipment and a treatment room. You can arrange a massage at the reception desk. It is quite expensive, at 60 euros, though. Good location for exploring Jerez, it is about 10-15 minutes walk to the cathedral. As so often in Spain, everything is shut in the afternoons. Wifi would not connect.

We were prepared for another small hotel room....but we got a gorgeous 1st floor room with gobs of spread out space and a small patio that was great for drying out some needed laundry:)

Our rate, surprise, included the buffet breakfast along with a lightly stocked minibar. The rate was only 65E/night. A wonderful rate for a very nice property.

We toured two bodegas, Tio Pepe and Sandeman's. Go to Sandeman's -- it is a much better deal at 6.5E/person. Included 3 very nice tastings and a tapa of sstuffed aolives and potato chips. The Tio Pepe was 10E/person and was only 2 samples of sherry and the chips....not worth it compared to Sandeman's.

Hate to leave this hotel -- back to the Euroboxes again, I'm afraid (with the ear plugs as well!)

This was our first visit to Jerez. The hotel staff were welcoming with a glass of sherry and big smiles, and went out of their way to help us later when we had to tackle the new Ryanair boarding system online. The hotel has pleasant gardens and a swimming pool offering private sunbathing areas. It is five minutes walk from the interesting Equestrian Centre and Sandeman Sherry building, and has at least three good restaurants within 10 mins walk. The stroll in to town is fairly easy with some cooling pit stops by fountains along the way. Well recommended as a short break destination and would definitely return.

The hotel is modern with larger than average comfortable double rooms and bathroom , which with an Expedia offer rate was extremely good value. There were few staff but they were helpful for bookings etc when needed. The pool was a reasonable size although small area around with few sunbeds, so i imagine it would be difficult to get one in the summer. We found parking on nearby streets (around Cadiz)quite easily. We did not eat at the restaurant. Breakfast is expensive and we found a small cafe for a good, but cheap breakfast, Fogon de Pepe on Divina Pastora where the server remembered what we wanted after the first 2 mornings and would bring it to us as soon as we arrived, a good start to the day. Places to eat: La Cepa de Oro is good and very close, La Cruz Blanca on Consistorio, highly recommended, but the star find was Sabores on Chancelleria, outstanding, but may need to book. All within walking distance. Hotel well placed for visiting all attractions and easy to reach by car.
If you visit Sanlucar de Barrameda you can take a half day 4 wheel drive trip into the Donana a couple of days a week, which is highly recommended and worth planning and booking ahead.

Had standard double room on 3rd floor for 2 adults + 1 child
Pros - The location was good, close to sights, bars and restaurants. The hotel facilities / public areas were attractive and clean. The bedrooms were comfortable & clean. The bathroom was spacious & clean. Service was excellent, helpful and friendly in all areas (reception, restaurant) but the hotel are shortstaffed. Nice pool.
Cons - Hotel was shortstaffed. Nice bar next to pool / lounge but not manned in the evening. Our room smelt smoky and the minibar was not fixed during our 4 night stay after telling them on day one. Pool lacked enough sunbeds but perhaps that was by design because of the limited pool area. Room service sandwiches very poor and overpriced. Those problems mentioned, the overall opinion of our stay was very positive.
