“Nice place to chill”
Reviewed 4 November 2013

This is a very relaxed place to eat tapas and also larger portions. The food was really good and not too expensive. We had a lasagna spanish style, nice! Only downside was that the waitress was a bit too busy.

“Great surprise”
Reviewed 2 November 2013 via mobile

While roaming the streets of this city near our hotel we came across this restaurant during the afternoon when almost all businesses close for the afternoon siesta. We looked in the restaurant which was simply decorated but definitely caught our interest. A woman who later served our dinner to us that evening greeted us. She spoke no English but my broken Spainish worked enough that she reserved a table for us four hours later. We came back at the designated time when the restaurant was packed. She spotted us in the crowd and lead us to our table, the only open table in the restaurant or seating area outside. We had a wonderful meal of Tapas and could not have been happier with the quality of the food, the service and the wines they selected to accompany our meal. It was one of our best meals and least expensive meals too. Tonight we ate in a different restaurant that was highly regarded in three popular travel guides and while the food was okay, we both regretted that we didn't return to El Amancen since there were so many other great menu selections to try. Don't miss this restaurant if you have occasion to visit this city.

“No wine list?”
Reviewed 2 November 2013

We had a really strange experience here. We read the reviews and thought "great, we can try great wines with our tapas" We sat down and after a while the waiter asked for our drink order. We asked to see a list of wines. He said they don't have one - what do you want, red or white? We didn't want any old white or red, so I asked if they had more than one type of red or white wine and he said, yes, we have many. I asked again if there was a list. He shook his head, "no list." So we just left. A wine bar with no wine list. Did not make sense. We were disappointed but did not know what to do. No one else besides the waiter was there except the bartenders and they never looked up from their work to greet us. (We had stood for a while before sitting down, hoping to catch someone's attention or be seated, but never were). Oh well.

“Delicious tapas place”
Reviewed 16 October 2013

We went twice to this restaurant as the tapas were delicious, especially the "paté casero". Lovely atmosphere and friendly service.
