As you arrive, the hotel looks out on a building site. All work on the apartments on site has ceased. It's like arriving in a ghost town. The hotel was offering an unbeatable deal - €99.20 for two people for one night with unlimited golf. Too good to be true? No, we always knew we would have to pay for golf carts. These cost €42 per round. Nevertheless, it was still a cheap deal.
The hotel was disappointing. It was very quiet. We were early but we still had to wait for our room to be ready even though there must have been lots of rooms unoccupied the night before. We were put right next to the lifts, which I listened to for a good part of the night. Why? In the room, there were no robes, no slippers, no complementary water, no turn down service with a chocolate and perhaps the next day's weather forecast - all things I expect and get in other 5* hotels. There are no shops in the hotel; just a bar, a large dining room and a small open sitting area. There was no pool bar and service there was almost non-existent. There was no eating or drinking facility at the golf club. The whole place just didn't feel 5*. All the little touches were missing. As for the golf course, we saw no one working on it and it looked tired and unloved. On the plus side, a hot and cold buffet dinner at €25 was excellent and included a half bottle of house wine per person. Breakfast was also very good, but a shared club sandwich for lunch was the strangest club sandwich I've ever had. Would I recommend it? No. Was it value for money? Probably but it didn't have a 5* feel at all. Would I go back? No.
