Itaca Hotel Jerez
Reviewed 20 June 2013

This is the second time that we have stayed at the Itaca Hotel in Jerez De La Frontera. Both times we have been more than satisfied by the hotel and its staff.

Itaca Hotel Jerez is conveniently located midway between the railway and bus stations which are beside each other and on a main road into the town centre. The hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the stations along safe main roads with wide pavements (sidewalks) and plenty of local activity. For those driving, it should not be difficult to find the hotel on the right side of the road leading into the centre of Jarez.

The exterior of the hotel is somewhat austere and doesn't really stand out among similar buildings until you are right there. Once inside, you will find that all aspects of the interior have been extensively redeveloped and are super modern in style. Reception staff were invariably very helpful and accommodating. Last year they put some fruit in the staff fridge after we checked out in the morning for us to collect later in the day. This year we were allowed to use a computer terminal a the front desk to check our e-mail as the pay terminal in the lobby was malfunctioning.

The rooms are all ultra- modern in design and furnishings. This can prove to be a challenge when figuring out all the bells and whistles of the shower. Warning: if you don't follow the posted instructions in the shower carefully, you may get a very cold shower! Unfortunately, as we stayed at the Itaca during an unusually hot (34 deg. C) period in April, the central air conditioning was not yet in service and our room was excessively hot at night. However, after 11pm the passing vehicle and human traffic outside was generally light so our sleep was not excessively disturbed.

Breakfast at the Itaca Hotel Jerez is served in a former convent chapel. The chapel, like the rest of the building, has been tastefully converted into a restaurant. The self service hot and cold 'all you can eat' buffet is extensive and should cater for all international tastes. Breakfast was included in our room price.

The hotel is in the course of installing a rooftop patio during our visit. This will be an added bonus when completed - possibly by now.

We found that the Itaca Hotel Jerez was very reasonably priced considering the overall quality of the accommodations (nothwithstanding the air conditioning issue) and inclusion of a full English-style breakfast was an added bonus. We will not hesitate to stay at this hotel again should we be passing through Jerez De Lan Frontera. It was one of the best values in a medium sized city that we found while travelling in Spain both in 2012 and in 2013.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights in May. Great location and friendly staff. Room was clean, tidy and always refreshed by the cleaners.
If you drive in Spain as we do you'll appreciate that parking can be awkward and Jerez is no different. The staff gave good advice on car parks so we had no problem.
Breakfast service was efficient and a good range to enjoy (for 10 euro each).
The lobby bar opened too late for us (not until 8 pm) but there's loads to do elsewhere so again no problem.
Reception staff were happy to advise on local festivals etc so all in all we thought this was very good value for money.

The hotel is astonishing from the outside, but trouble begins once you enter.

First, I asked where can I park my car. After paying an expensive deposit for a remore underground parking (the hotel doesn't have its own), I realized it was Sunday! so I can park in the sreet for free! When I asked the receptionist about this, I was told: "Oh yes, right, I forgot to tell you whis was an option...".

I asked for a quiet room - well, at was quiet during the day, but at night, I found out that it was right beneath the main air-conditioning system. Obviously, no sleep that night. When I called the front desk during the night to complain, I was told that it will be resolved shortly. Nothing was done.

Breakfast at the hotel, though, was quite good.

But all the rest? I recommend you leave your money some place else.

We stayed at this hotel purely on the basis that there was a deal on, offering a significant reduction over the new year period. After staying at a dive in Cadiz, this felt heavenly. The artwork in the reception area is amazing, our room was crisp and clean and the dinning room where breakfast is served is a beautiful converted chapel. I couldn't find fault with the place.

The hotel is central enough, and offers free wi-fi, parking is an issue though but you should be able to find something a few blocks away.

We booked a room for just the 2 of us for 2 nights. We had heard that the hotel was so good. Well it is close to the old town of Jerez and the entry of the hotel is great. Parking is difficult and costs a lot extra.
Coming into the room we first thought; wow what a nice room. But than we saw the bathroom. Well the bathroom misses 1 wall. So you have to shut curtains if you go to the toilet or if you want to take a shower. The doors are from glass and are not complete, there rests a lot of open space above the door, so noises and smells from the toilet come into your bedroom. To be honest not quite romantic.
The employees are not all of the same level, at the front-desk you normally find people that speak more than just Spanish. Well not at Itaca, when I left this morning the receptionist spoke fluent Spanish and didn't understand any English.

Beautiful building, very clean. Nice food, great location. Didn't like the divide in between the beds and we're convinced it was haunted. Jerez is an amazing place and this well worth a try!

We initially went in for a coffee and I fell in love with the inside, so my partner booked us in for the night. I am in love with Jerez!
