“As good as they say”
Reviewed 7 October 2013

Just returned from a wonderful short stay at the Alcantara. What to add? Jorgé looked after us perfectly - what a sweet man. The bedroom was grand, cool and ultra-comfortable, the breakfasts delicious, setting tranquil and if there's a better way to spend an afternoon than lazing in and about the sublime pool, I'd like to know about it. Of course, Jerez is the main reason for staying - beautiful, vibrant and sadly overlooked. Don't just pass through this Andalucian gem.

Room Tip: Number III (ground floor, front)was delightful.

The hotel is an old country house set in beautiful grounds with a pool and gorgeous garden. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable with good air-con, modern en-suite and ours had a small balcony. There is free Wi-Fi in and around the house but it doesn't reach out to the pool. The setting is extremely peaceful and we were able to relax 100% by the pool each day.The staff were excellent even more so as we had them and the place to ourselves the week we were there. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful every morning. We had dinner there twice, 4 hearty courses of traditional Spanish cuisine. The hotel is an easy drive from the airport, Jerez itself, Arcos and Cadiz. No idea why it was so quiet, but we loved the place.

We stopped off here while touring Andalucia. We only intended to stay one night, but soon
decided to stay until the end of our holiday. The house has been done up beautifully, and is extremely comfortable. There was a roaring log fire in the drawing room, where we would relax
with a glass of Tio Pepe,(the house belongs to the Gonzales Gordon family).
The service from Jose, Diego and Andy was superb. They made us feel very welcome, and nothing was too much trouble. There were superb breakfasts, beautifully served, with delicious scrambled eggs, courtesy of Angela.
There is a fabulous walk through the vineyards and fields behind the house, with breathtaking views of the countryside. It also makes an excellent base for exploring Andalucia, with Seville,
Cadiz, Cordoba, Granada and, of course, Jerez all within an hour or two's drive.
This would also be a great place to come for a few days with family and friends. There are only 8 bedrooms, and they are all lovely. A very classy place to stay!

This is quite simply the best place we have ever stayed. My wife was unfortunately ill before we left for Spain and continued to suffer whilst away. The staff and owners daughter were so attentive to our needs ensuring everything possible to make her comfortable. The rooms, public areas and gardens are pristinely presented, the pool is a perfect location and temperature. The two south american butlers cannot do enough to make your stay memorable. If you are visiting the jerez area you must treat yourself to this experience. Thank you so much to all for this higlight.

This old landhouse was once a family home and now offers you lovely accommodation just 5 minutes away from Jerez centre. It is a beautifull small place to stay for celebrating your honeymoon. The rooms are beautifully decorated in pale earth tones to reflect the natural surroundings of the house. The rooms upstairs have steeply beamed ceilings and all have private bathrooms. Two butlers are helping you with everything you need. Our honeymoon is still in our mind.

Room Tip: The rooms upstairs are big and very luxe

The other reviews say it all. Whether you want to relax by the pool, with drinks brought to your sun-lounger by George or Martin (very cheerful and willing members of staff from Peru and Bolivia), or want to visit Jerez (don't miss the Gonzales Byass tour) or Cadiz, this is the perfect place to stay. A peaceful location, comfortable rooms, excellent service, - what more could one ask for!

Beautiful,small(9 rooms) extremely comfortable hotel just outside Jerez near GP circuit/Montecastillo golf resort.Superb, unobtrusive but efficient staff(1,2 or3 gentlemen, depending on number of guests) and the Lady owner popping in to greet and ensure a perfect stay. The rooms are large, airy, beautifully furnished(as is the whole house)with no TV's/radios to detract from the tranquility. The Air-con is switched on before bed and is really efficient and quiet.Pool and gardens are beautiful and peaceful. If free, the staff are happy to taxi you to restaurants at very reasonable rates and are all very kind and helpfull at all times.Breakfast is the only small thing I could constuctively criticise as the selection of fresh fruit was limited and a little dull and the orange juice was not squeezed freshly, but the coffee and cooked eggs/bacon were delicious.
Overall.a total joy, would unresevedly recommend it if tranquility and quality of service in a relaxing,old-world charm style ouyweighs modern hi-tech resort style hotels.

Concealed in a dense arboreal garden of palms, cypresses, myrtle, bay and lentiscs, lies a secret world, the world of Casa Alcantara, an exclusive accommodation only 10 minutes from Jerez airport, Cadiz, Andalucia. Here the family had their private shooting box; and on a bright crisp winter's day, they would retire from shooting partridge to indulge in the simple pleasure of a country fireside, glittering copas of cooled Tio Pepe, or amber oloroso, and a homely lunch of hot sopa de ajos, eggs from the farm hens, gently fried in olive oil, or perhaps some spinach or Swiss chard grown between the vineyards on the hills behind the house. ... more   less
