“In the Heart of Jerez”
Reviewed 5 April 2011

A perfect location in Jerez, with the historic centre just around the corner, along with a plethora of excellent bars and restaurants.
David was a wonderful host and great source of information. If he didn't know the answer he made sure he found out whatever you wanted to know.
Perfect accommodation for a visit to this hidden gem of Jerez.
Was a little disconcerted at first to find that most rooms don't have an outside window but it didn't make any difference at all - in fact it was a benefit as it was just so quiet.
The roof terrace wasn't open as the weather was only just getting warm in March but looks great - must go back to try it out in the summer months!

Superb restoration of typical Jerez townhouse, completed with taste and charm. The hotel owner gave us a really warm welcome, and was a font of knowledge on what to do and see and even took us around the main thoroughfare of Jerez to get our bearings.

The hotel was spotless and breakfast good. Nothing was too much trouble for the owner and we will be returning in a couple of months to take advantage of the local events he gave us advance information of.

Location was very central and we managed to find free parking space close by

My wife and I were going to, originally, stay in a beautiful 4 star hotel in Jerez, but then we saw La Fonda Barranco's website and reviews, and immediately booked it. I phoned the hotel and spoke to David, which immediately convinced us that we were making the right choice as he was so helpful and wanted to ensure we got the best out or stay. We had a wonderful time there as Jerez is very interesting and there is a great deal to see. David was excellent in helping us choose restaurants and activities, and we weren't in the least bored the whole 5 nights we stayed there. He was even able to recommend restaurants in Cadiz and Sanlucar, and the best means of transport. Book this hotel as you will not be disappointed as it is centrally located, and you will be very well looked after by David.

I have very fond memories of La Fonda Barranco. The information on Jerez provided by David was invaluable and enabled me to get the most out of my brief stay in Jerez de la Frontera. Firstly, he suggested some really great eating places - and the food was the best I'd had in Spain. La Cruz Blanca was a favourite. Secondly, he suggested the best sherry bodega and the best times to visit places such as the Equestrian School and he made sure everyone was properly rugged up with scarves etc before they left the building. The solo travellers appreciate this extra service.

The downstairs breakfast area is pleasant to sit in and chat with the other guests. David is happy to make you a tea or coffee and you can help yourself if he is not about. The wi-fi is only effective in this area but there are plenty of places to sit while you do so.

I had the small apartment on the top floor and enjoyed the day bed for relaxation and catching up on writing. There was a bit of a problem with damp which I suspect is unavoidable in these buildings. There are many buildings in the area in serious need of restoration. Next to the apartment is a small terrace for use by all the residents.

There is quite a lot to do in Jerez and the surrounding areas and La Fonda Borranco would be a good base from which to do day trips. Highly recommended.

Found this small hotel in the centre of Jerez and apart from finding it initially, we thought it was a wonderful hotel with a charming owner who took care of our every need. We would highly recommend it to any traveller.

Had great time with David, the owner of this Morrocan style boutique hotel, right in centre of Jerez, had wonderful breakfast on roof terrace, got good advice from David on places to visit, restaurants to eat at, even the food to order!! We were attended to our every need, the rooms were full of character, the only downside was not having a pool, but this was superseded by the service we were given. Had lovely trip there and would return again. Great position right in centre of the town and within walking distance to everything. Well worth a visit. From Michelle, North West London.

Beautiful and cosy B&B. Very nicely decorated
The owner David is a great host and is full of great tips. Jerez is a beautiful Andalucian city.
This was one of the best B&B we have experienced in Andalucia.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
La Fonda Barranco is a Typical old merchant's house in the heart of Historic Jerez. Built on an ancient site in the oldest part of the Islamic city. The house mostly dates from 1865, but parts of it predate by several centuries. Each room is subtly different and opens on to the central marble floored and plant filled atrium. Although mantaining all the characteristic features of the original building, all rooms have moderns amenities such as air conditioning and wifi internet access. We also have a room adapted for clients with special needs. Breakfast is served on our roof terrace with the magnificent view of the Cathedral. With only 8 rooms and 2 studios La Fonda mantains the ambience of a private home. For this reason it's particularly suitable for group booking, having the feel of an exclusive house party. We have a non smoking policy through out La Fonda, however smoking is permitted in the upper open air terrace area. ... more   less
