“Another lovely stay”
Reviewed 16 October 2011

Thanks David for our second enjoyable stay at La Fonda Barranco! Shame it was only two nights but for anyone wanting to stay in Jerez we can really recommend this B&B. Its only a few minutes walk to some great tapas bars and restaurants (recommend La Cruz Blanca) and also the Cathedral, the Tio Pepe Bodega and the centre of town. David serves a nice continental breakfast (fresh bread, fruit, cheese, jams, cereals juice and coffee) on the roof terrace and can help you with booking anything - try a massage at the nearby hamman baths - but beware the cold plunge pool! Jerez is a lovely town - still very Spanish, and La Fonda Barranco a great little place to stay. I am sure we will be back ....

If you want something exceptional, then stay here - the owner, David, makes it an unbelievable stay.
As other reviews have said, he makes the whole stay a memorable one - we stayed for 7 nights, and I'm so glad we stayed here - it's only a 10 min stroll into the centre of town, and there's many many restaurants, and Tapas bars, as well as plenty of bars to stop for a nightcap or two on the stroll home - even when you get back to La Fonda, we sat out on the roof-top terrace with a drink in the warm night air, marvellous
Jerez was a real eye opener - we went to a couple of Sherry Bodegas, both excellent, and then on Thursday we went to the Royal Equestrian School, and although we are not "horsey" people, it blew us away (get there at least an hour before the show to see them training, and look round the house)
We also went to Cadiz, and that's a good day out - train to Puerto St Maria, stroll thru town to get the catamaran across the bay, lunch and take a couple of the walks around Cadiz (coloured lines painted on the floor for you to follow) - try not to miss the Camera Obscura in one of the watchtowers.
Back in Jerez, I cannot praise le patron, David - he was so helpful with everything - recommending places to visit, the best Tapas bars, and even some new tapas to try - our favourite was the "pigs cheek" in La Cruz Blanca - we ran out of time to try all the places to eat and drink, and there are loads of small spanish bars just off the main drags to have lunch of some Jamon y Manchego queso - try it with a glass of Fino, it's wonderful - also ask David about the Flamenco bar in Calle Franco on Friday night, excellent.

We stayed in the apartment on the top floor, not flash, just very comfortable, and plenty of space - well worth the extra bit of cash.
As you can gather, we thought Jerez was great, as was this place, plus the fact everything is easily walkable, and David made it a really memorable stay (he could give the Spanish Tourist Board some lessons)

Room Tip: small apartment on the top floor was well worth the extra bit, and all the other guests we spoke to...

Jerez is certainly not going to be on everyone's radar BUT if you are looking some some superb accommodation, stay here. It is centrally located within an easy walk to the pedestrian area of the city. David is as good of a host as one could be. He tells it as it is and his candid comments on where to go and what to do were greatly appreciated. He even gave recommondations for tapas in other cities. A wonderful experience.

Room Tip: All rooms are internal with no direct windows but are very comfortable to say the least

From the moment David came to meet us after our fraught navigation of Jerez's beautiful but tiny streets we realised that we had found a real gem. David is incredibly welcoming, friendly and an absolute mine of information about Jerez, the Costa de la Luz and indeed the history of Andalucia and Spain. All his tips on where to go, what to see and what to do were spot on. We can't thank him enough for making us feel so welcome and indeed for providing us with excellent instructions and maps to see us safely in and out of the city. The hotel is in an ideal location in the old town and is immaculately presented - the elegant, thoughtful and understated decor giving it a very special ambience particularly as the lamps and candles are lit in the evenings. We stayed for 2 nights at the beginning of our holiday and booked a further day towards the end of the break as we enjoyed it so much. Both rooms we stayed in were stylish, immaculate and very comfortable. The roof terrace where breakfast is served is very pretty indeed and the perfect spot to come to terms with the day and plan our walks around the old town. In short, it's the sort of rare boutique hotel that everyone hopes to find - we absolutely loved it and would recommend it to anyone visiting Jerez.

We stayed for four nights at La Fonda Barranco, and really enjoyed it. We stayed in a spotlessly clean room in a recently refurbished traditional old house in the centre of the old town, with a courtyard. The breakfast on the roof each morning was very good, fresh juice, coffee, bread and tomatoes (which works really well in warm Jerez), and also David the charming owner. Over the four days he was always friendly, giving lots of tips on local restaurants and day trips and so on.

I spent 3 nights at La Fonda Barranco, the first part of my trip to Andalucia. There is a reason it's no 1 on Tripadvisor, it's just lovely. David, the owner, was so friendly and welcoming, gave me some excellent tips on local places which was really helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble for him, he really was a great host.

The place itself is just beautiful, very comfortable, nicely decorated and with lovely L'Occitane soap for the shower! It's very central and everything is in walking distance, including the train station if you wanted to take a day trip to Cadiz (with luggage I'd recommend a taxi though).

There is a lovely roof terrace where breakfast was served.

I can't recommend this place highly enough, if I return to Jerez I wouldn't even think about looking to stay anywhere else.

A friend had suggested this boutique hotel and thankfully we took his advice. From the moment we were met by David somewhere in the city, after the sherry harvest festival tasting by the charming co-owner, who guided us to his small elegant hotel, we realised that we had found a comfortable haven at a frenetic time. The accommodation met all our requirements coupled with excellent value for money and of course David's wit, local knowledge and excellent recommendations of what to do and where to go, and to eat. I can assure any traveller that this type of place goes along way to satisfy with minimum fuss, probably all of their wishes. It is a slight detour away from the centre but well worth it! I have already told my friends about this well kept secret.

Room Tip: As it is basically an old Spanish courtyard type building all rooms are interesting but perhaps the...
