Highlights: the terrace if you choose a room in the second floor, the staff and the continental breakfast served in the room (coffee, juice, bread with butter and mermelade and some cakes.
Lowlights: the continuous noise in the room due to the fancoil (even if you have it disconnected the noise is still there, the location is far away from the center.

Room Tip: room in the second floor has terraces.

Las Abadias is labelled as a hostel, but don't let that put you off, it's not like a dorm based hostel. It's a modern & comfortable hotel at the end of a long blocked of terraced homes. It has secure underground parking, a simple reception area, key access gates & door. The room, though a little small, was nevertheless comfortable, clean and cool in the heat of summer. The bathroom was clean and well equipped with a fantastic shower. Breakfast was continental and served to your room and excellent value. This is a great place to explore Merida and all its fabulous history. We certainly didn't see everything, only realising afterwards at what we had missed, but I can certainly agree with others that it needs a couple of days to see everything. We did manage to find the Cafe Bar Las Abadias (on Calle Astorga), sign-posted across the road from the hotel, and enjoyed a simple spanish meal of tapas. This is a great place to stay if your a motorcyclist en-route through Spain, due to it's secure parking and value for money.
