That a bridge of this scale, built by the Romans, still exists and is still in constant use on a daily basis by the citizens of Merida is truly amazing. The quality of the building is a testament to those early engineers and the men who built it.

A long hot walk to the other side and back jn the heat of the day...thete are no cafes, bars or toilets....so best to enjoy with a bottle of water in hand in the early evening.

At the edge of the Roman part of town it is still being used and presents a good entrance to the historic centre.

This is beautiful and well maintained. It is the longest surviving roman bridge in the world - walk over it.

The flawless engineering, the graceful Roman arches supporting the bridge and the stonework that survives 2,000 years of use is amazing. It was used by traffic until 1991 and continues to be used as a pedestrian crossing from one bank to the opposite bank. It is the longest surviving bridge of the ancient world with 60 spans. When we first spotted it, we stopped the bus to take it all in for a few minutes; it's a marvel.

What a sensation, to walk along a (1 km long) Roman bridge, that is still holding up! A nice stroll across the bridge, to see the Guadiana River. Just lovely. Highly recommended when in Mérida.
