So busy you sometimes have to wait a little. The food was as basic or traditional as you like and all very good. Can't beat it for price in Lindos. Just a good simple diner.

After a couple of so-so meals at the more "glamorous" restaurants, we decided to give Mario's a try for a simple Greek Meze and we were not disappointed.

From the genuinely friendly welcome, relaxed atmosphere and general laughter in Mario's we knew we were in a more taverna type (albeit a tad spartan) of eatery that is quite lacking in Lindos.

The Meze was excellent, served as and when was ready and quality comporable with most we have had over the years in Greece. Mario was a great host, affable and funny, really attentive and had many returnees on the evening we visited.

It doesn't try to be a Symposio or Ambrosia, in fact it's a welcome change and thoroughly deserve's it place in Lindos for this reason alone. Try it with an open mind and enjoy it's simplicity and welcoming spirit.

We had been working through the best restaurants in Lindos as rated by TripAdvisor. However, we were shocked that this restaurant even appeared in the ratings. We asked for the mixed Greek Meze which proved to be an extremely disappointing mistake. Butter Beans were okay, Peppers stuffed with very stodgy rice with no texture, over stewed courgettes, tasteless potatoes, over stewed slightly off tasting onions and strange tasting defrosted Mousaka. To make it worse it was all mixed together on one small silver plater, making it impossible to rescue anything that may, although doubtfully have tasted okay. We left 75% of it which did appear to suprise our friendly waiter in any way.
It must be noted that we did meet somebody the following day who enjoyed a pizza there so maybe their strength lies in English and Italian food, both of which featured large on the menu. If you would like tasty Greek food, try Maria's next door or Ambrosia Restaurant if your budget allows it..

We tried Mario's after reading the many excellent reviews but alas the reality was very different.
The only plus point was the friendliness of Mario.
The old saying in life "you get what you pay for" applies exactly to Mario's.
The food at best was mediocre and the much vaunted "cheap wine" was terrible hence the reason for it being cheap!
Lindos restaurants are now becoming expensive but do not be tempted to try Mario's based on price as it will be money wasted.
How people give it such high praise is a mystery!
