“Peaceful and stunning location”
Reviewed 10 September 2010

We planned this trip to Lindos for our anniversary and we wanted a peaceful (mostly child free) location with stunning views and this is exactly what we got. As we had read on previous reviews that the balconies are not that private, I emailed in advance to request a room with some privacy and this request was met with a garden level junior suite with views over the sea and enclosed terrace - perfect. It was lovely to be greeted by a bottle of chilled bubbly, red rose and heart shaped sweets on the king size bed. The room was spacious and spotlessly clean.

This hotel can be difficult to get around during the day due to all the steps but the best advice is to get to know the lifts and use these when it is particularly hot. The walk down to the beach is well worth the trip and you will be greeted by plenty of sunbeds, wide sandy bay and shallow clear blue sea. At the end of a long day on the beach it is easy to walk down to the Lemon Tree Taverna or back to the hotel beach bar and small pool to finish off the day.

We would agree with other reviews that the dining room is on the small size and could be crowded but we always avoided the busy times and had dinner late which meant a better choice of tables and a more relaxed meal. The staff in the restaurant are fantastic and once they know that you prefer a window table they will always go out of their way to find you just the right table. The food in the restaurant is excellent with plenty of choice and freshly cooked regardless of what time you have your meal, also the wine is very reasonable and have paid much more in previous similar hotels. We would also recommned that you at least once swap dinner for lunch in the a la carte restaurant and take a taxi into Lindos - try the Kalypso restaurant and drinks in the Captains House.

It is difficult to believe that anyone could find this hotel to be anything other than a good 4 star with the best hotel team you are likely to ever come across in a stunning location with a two minute taxi ride to Lindos. The Lindos Mare is a unique hotel which has soul and ideally suited to couples wanting a peaceful week.

I can't believe anyone could find anything to complain about at Lindos Mare.

My husband and I were here for the last week of August half-board and booked fairly last minute. These were the most stress free 7 days I've had in a long time. We booked the taxi rather than the coach from the airport, which I would highly recommend. We arrived at about 4am where we were welcomed by friendly and helpful staff. This friendliness and helpfulness continued throughout our stay from all staff in the hotel. As far as I'm concerned, this was customer service as it should be.

Food here was really good, varied and plentiful. There were hot and cold buffets for breakfast and dinner, which served some favourites - eggs, bacon, fruits, greek salads, feta - daily along with other dishes which changed daily. The foods catered for UK, Greek and continental tastes (UK, Greek, German and Italian tourists). The serving dishes were kept full and if you asked, the chef would cook some things to order (eg. softer/harder eggs). The food was overwhelmingly plentiful. I'm a vegetarian and a very fussy eater and certainly did not go hungry! We did have lunch in the a la carte once, but we preferred the variation of the buffet. Other reviewers have said the tables were too close together and to be fair, they were quite close BUT there were some tables that weren't and you could sit where ever you liked. They weren't so close that it spoiled the dining experience. The only downside is that the drinks were a bit pricey, but that is the nature of hotels. We walked along the beach in the evenings to the Vlicha Taverna/Lemon Tree bar where the drinnks were much more reasonably priced. We had lunch here often which was very good and also reasonably priced. My husband says the lamb was especially good!

The rest of the hotel was also superb quality. There was always someone sweeping, cleaning, and gardening so the whole environment was very pleasant and meticulously clean. Our room (double standard 112) was spacious, clean and had some basic toiletries, decent hairdryer and sea views from a lovely balcony.

The two pools were great and there were plenty of sunbeds to use. We spent most of our time on the beach, which was two lifts and a few steps away. There were also plenty of sunbeds on the beach, and if it got a little busy (which one day it did) the staff on the beach removed towels that early birds has placed there to reserve them. We saw this happen often so be warned if you're thinking about getting up early and putting your towel on the beds. The beach was small enough to leave our things by the beds safely while we went for a swim.

The weather was perfect and there were no bugs or mosquitoes to speak of. There were some pretty big reddish wasps, but for the most part a swoosh of a napkin seemed to get rid of them.

Cannot stress enough how wonderful the staff were here, especially those working in the dining areas and bars. They worked very hard, paid attention to detail and made us (and everyone else) feel welcomed and special. This is especially the case for Mikilas/Michael who is usually at the entrance of the dining areas welcoming everyone in. He remembered everybody's names and was hilarious.

If you go to Lindos and you want a completing relaxing and entertaining holiday, then stay here - you won't regret it.

From the moment we arrived at 2.30am to the moment we left at 12 midnight 2 weeks later every member of the staff was fantastic. Always helpful, smiling, respectful and genuinely pleased to help you have the best possible holiday. It would be unfair to single any particular individuals, there were all terrific and
The view from our balcony over Vichy Bay was to die for. We could (and did) sit there for hours relaxing with a glass or beer, wine or ouzo, never tiring of the vista.
Our room (144) at the top of the hill close to reception was perfectly comfortable, clean and well equipped with everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The unique feature of being able to lay in the bath and see the sea was particularly pleasant.
We found the food, breakfast, lunch and dinner excellent, good quality, variety and presentation.
The beach is good a mixture of sand and single but once in the sea its all sand. The umbrellas are well plentiful and well spaced out. There didn't seem to be a problem get beds on the beach even in August. Similarly the pools have plenty of beds and shade with main pool having the most of both. The trek to the beach is down thru the gardens and takes a just a few minutes. The return is more of a challenge, either a climb up the various flights of stairs or via the 3or 4 lifts, depending where your room is. But its worth it!
Prices in the hotel are little on the high side but this is typical across Europe these days. Its worth taking advantage of happy hour between 6-7pm when drinks are discounted by 25%.
Just along the beach about 200 yds these is a superb small supermarket that stocks all your basic needs. We found the prices amongst the best on the Island. Get your water here and save 50%.
Entertainment is every other night and was generally good and lively. There is also good entertainment at the Azzurro bar just along the beach next to the hotel.
A trip or two or three to Lindos is a must. The Mythos Taverna just off the main square is recommended. Most of the people we meet at the hotel loved the place and would be happy to return at some point in the future. We have stayed at many hotels in Greece over the years and without doubt this one is one of the best.

My husband and myself travelled with Thomson in July 2010, the hotel is A La Carte so you get complimentry plane meals, late check out option and also a taxi transfer instead of a coach to and from the airport... this was brilliant... it REALLY made a huge difference.
The hotel itself when you pull up is not grand by any stretch of the imagination... we normally go 5 star in Turkey and our first impressions are usually WOW!! However its smart enough clean and tidy in reception, with beautiful views over looking the beach.
Our room was one of the refurbished ones and on the same level as the pool bar and main pool... perfectly located. ( 214) The room itself was lovely, very spacious, with lovely big balcony, infinity sink in the bathroom and nice big wardrobe... above all CLEAN. :)
I have to say on our first morning I really did have a feeling of "oh god what have we done" There are some pretty shabby areas in the hotel, mainly the childrens play area... its embarassing to be honest, they would be better off just not having it. I cant see why anyone would want their children to be playing on rusty equipment on dried/weedy mud???
The walk to the beach is down loads of steps , which you do get used to, but the beach is not that great... we hired a car and found Pefki/Pefkos Beach to be outstanding in comparisson, also Golden Sanda Agathi Beach.... beautiful!! The beach in Lindos itself is very nice and also Saint Pauls bay is gorgeous.... so hire a car and see the island.... its the best thing we ever did!
I am a fussy eater and did'nt really like the hotel food at all, my husband enjoyed it, but the restaurant is very claustrophobic and really should be a better standard for a 4 star A La carte hotel. having said that the staff were amazing, so lovely that it did make up for any small gripes.
The pool bar is lovely really relaxing, and the entertainment was always quite good, Abba night was great and also Beatles night. was good fun. Drinks are expensive... but they always are in hotels....
I was'nt impressed by the main pool at all... the decking area and loungers were lovely, but it just was'nt easy to get in and out of without using the steps, as it was'nt the cleanest looking either. There was no atmosphere.... it almost felt like a libray. The small infinity pool by the beach is lovely with a bar and handy nearby loo but really very tiny.... but I much preferred it.
I dont have anything "bad" to say about this hotel, it was clean, tidy ( mostly) staff were great... but theres also nothing wow to say either. Its relaxing for adults... definately not suitable for children in my opinion, and I did'nt have any with me, but felt sorry for those that did. Theres no animation team, or pool games in the day... fine if you just want to read and relax....
Rhodes itself and Lindos is amazing I fell in love with the place and had the best holiday I have ever been on in years!!! If/when we go again I think I would go self catering in either Pefkos or Lindos over looking the Accroppolis... but I cant stress enough, hire a car and go on adventures, its a beautiful island and well worth seeing.... I cant wait to go again LOVED IT!!! :))) Oh and go to Rhodes old town... its a great day out... historic for the guys and shopping heaven for the girls x

My husband and I stayed here for 2 weeks with our 12 year old daughter and we really enjoyed ourselves. We had a junior suite which was nice and spacious and spotlessly clean. The maids cleaned it thoroughly every day and always had a smile and a cheery word, especially Maria who was an absolute delight. We found the food and service to be very good, plenty of choice in the main restaurant and the Pelagos A la carte was excellent too on the occasions we swapped our evening meal for lunch. Staff at this hotel really are top notch, wherever we went for drinks they were efficient and polite whist at the same time being so friendly. We particularly enjoyed the company of Manolis and Jana in the top bar and Efrinisi and her team at the pool bar. The beach here is lovely and even though we aren't usually too keen on spending time on the beach we could quite happily have sat here every day especially as the waiters are up and down with ice cold drinks all the time. Although the main pool isnt massive, it never got crowded and we were pretty much able to get loungers together when we were there. It was very hot every day around 40 degrees so we personally felt that the air conditioning needed to be on full time but it went off as soon as we left our room and took the key out but that is the only slightly negative point I would make. Altogether a wonderful holiday in a beautiful setting.

i have just returned from a fantastic 2-week stay at the Lindos Mare.
i will write a full review when i have more time , but i must comment on the negative comments of CAM1001 .
I would hate to read a review of a hotel she did not like .
she seems to be comparing this 4-star hotel with the 5-star Lindos Blu , that i note she stayed at the following week.
this is very unfair and will give new readers a false impression of a very good hotel .
in short ( for now ) the Mare was spotlessly clean , the choice of food was very good , and the staff were exceptionally helpful and friendly ..
she seems to want personal sevice from a busy chef , and i think her nit picking would annoy me if i were on reception.

Stayed at lindos mare celebrating anniversary with two children 10, 17. Arrived very late at night, given nice welcome by dimitris, porter- who continued to greet us during the week.We had a lovely room, spacious, clean with lovely views. Children's room was the same. We were greeted at breakfasr by Michaelis, restaurant and bar manager who was excellent at his job, as was every member of staff.Breakfast wasa choice of hot and cold food catering for different nationalities.Other reviewers have spoken about crowded mealtimes but it gave some of us an opportunity to speak to other guests. We stayed one week so we didn't experience repetitive nature of food..Swapping evening meal for lunchtime is well worth it for variety and keeping teenagers on board. We went into lindos for one disappointing rooftop meal but found the maze like passages interesting.Had occasion to use pharmacist and found helpful. We used the beach mostly and it was lovely. The supermarket 200 metres along resonable in many ways.Thank you to all the staff who were excellent.
