We stayed at Lindos Sun Hotel 17th. to the 31st August 2011.
The staff at the Hotel were all very friendly, polite and helpful, nothing was too much trouble for them. For example Margarita arranged for the breakfast to be ready extra early for us on the days we were going on trips.
The rooms, although simple, were clean – maid service each day – and had everything we needed (note no TV’s or tea making facilities in the rooms, which some people weren’t happy about!) The air con included in the price was great at night, as temperatures were about 29 degrees from about 7.30am and rose into the late 30’s during the day (the owner told us it had been in the 40’s the previous 2 weeks!)
The pool had enough (free) sun beds / umbrellas for everyone, no matter what time of day. The sun beds now have cushions on them, but unfortunately the beds aren’t adjustable, so difficult to sit up and read. The new kidney shaped pool was always clean, however it’s 1.5 meters deep all over– i.e. no shallow end, so not good for short people or children.
The pool bar severed delicious food, not the cheapest, but freshly prepared and cooked. From baguettes to Greek dishes to burgers etc. The bacon burger and souvlaki were to die for. Prices were from 2 euros for cold drinks, 1.5 euro for tea / coffee and from 4 euros for food.
The breakfast was a mixture of cooked stuff, continential, cereals, fruit etc and each day the choice was different. The evening meal offered something for everyone.
The hotel is set in lovely gardens, and isn’t massive, just the right size for a relaxing holiday. There is nothing much around the hotel, Lindos is a 20 minute walk up hill, there is a footpath and street lights, while Pefkos is about an hour’s walk away, with no street lights, no footpath and up a very steep winding road.
Busses run to Pefkos every hour during the day but be warned they don’t come back very late (last bus 9-50pm), so don’t rely on them for a night out in Pefkos. Bars, shops, and a decent beach. Bus was 1.6 euro each way and took 10 minutes. Very patchy service, always 20-30 minutes late and usually full.
Busses run to Lindos as well – 10 minutes, 1.6 euro each way, again very patchy service.
Rhodes town is about 5.5 euros on the bus, takes about 1.5 hours, again service is very random, and a lot of the time the bus was rammed and didn’t stop at Lindos Sun.
Nearest beach was Bay of Navarone (where some scenes were filmed for the film the Guns of Nararone), about 10-15 minutes walk from Hotel, very pebbly beach, and a lot of junk washed up on the beach. Note, there is nothing else here, no toilets, no beds, no bar etc, just a couple of hotels further down. Not many use this beach, we shared it with a dozen goats when we went down. Locals tend to use it on a Sunday.
Bay of St Paul is about 15-20 minute walk up hill then down a steep road, the beach is better, and beds, bar and toilets!
Two companies in Lindos offer trips, a lot cheaper than Thomsons, and we didn’t have any problems using Island of the Sun tours.
Great hotel if you want to be away from everything and enjoy brilliant service.
Apparently they have plans for a tennis court and a spa to be built on the site where the old pool used to be.
