The Lindos Sun is located about 1.5 kilometeres outside of Lindos on the Pefkos/Lardos Road, nestling beneath a hill of volcanic rock. It only takes about 25 minutes to walk into Lindos from the hotel, but it is uphill and fairly rigerous. A taxi ride costs 7 euros, bookable from reception and 5 euros to return from Lindos Square. The Lindos Sun is a pretty hotel, though it has seen better days and really could do with a bit of TLC, as parts of it look quite shabby now. There are a lot of things to commend it however, not least the spectacular views of the so called Naverone Cliffs (which featured in the film the Guns of Naverone) and which are a lovely sight first thing in the morning and throughout the day as the light and shadows on them changes. The grounds are beautiful, mature and well planted with geraniums, hibiscus, lemon and quince trees and more exotic flora. There is also an excellent swimming pool, deep and long, though not really suitable for non or nervous swimmers as the steps into the pool have been roped off for 'health and safety' reasons to prevent slips and the gradient from the shallow end to deeper water is quite steep. The rooms are fairly standard for Greece, quite small with a small bathroom and we found the (twin) beds pretty uncomfotable with the bedding and towels almost threadbare. We were half-board and the food on this occasion was first rate with a good range of food, a mix of buffet style and fixed menu evening meals all of which were very good and well presented. Prospective visitors need to be aware of the fact that around half of the rooms in the hotel are taken up by a travel company catering for solo travellers. This group of 'singles' tended to keep to themselves, eating together on designated tables, and sitting together on the terrace each evening and so forth. Therefore, there is not much opportunity for guests outside this group to engage or socialise and this can feel quite isolating. If there is a real criticism however, it is the lack of a proper hotel bar. The pool bar shuts at 5 pm and at 6.30 the bar service transfers to a kind of gazebo on the terrace at the front of the hotel. This closes at 11pm when presumably guests are expected to go to bed. This was a big complaint, particularly as there is no entertainment in the hotel and not all guests wanted to trek into Lindos every night. The staff themselves were very friendly but being mainly Italian communication was something of a problem as little English (or Greek) is spoken or understood, though it was fun trying. Finally, because the hotel is outside of Lindos shopping for even the most basic of items, such as a daily newspaper, means a trip into the village, or to the market in the nearest hotel - about 15 minutes away.

DO go to this hotel if: You are travelling solo with the singles group; you want a quietish location with spectacular views, don't mind a brisk walk or taxi ride to find some nightlife and don't mind basic accommodation

DON't go to this hotel if you are travelling as a couple or independent traveller and want a holiday socialising with other guests, want high standards of accommodation or facilities on your doorstep or are looking for a lively hotel with entertainment

I stayed at this hotel 2 years ago and there have been many improvements.

The pool was so clean and excellent size for swimming in, the 2 pool bar staff were friendly and made great snadwiches. They have a new english couple doing the food and the dinners were amaazing. Lots of choice, hot and well presented.

The bedrooms have a great view and no problems with hot water compared to 2 years ago.

Lindos as always is a great place with many bars and restaurants.

I spent two weeks in this hotel with my boyfriend and we found it terrible. First of all our room was very little with a very little wardrobe ,so it was impossible to unpack our luggage. Secondly, they didn't clean the room very well and we even found many ants in the bathroom. The pool is quite dangerous because the steps are slippery and the hotel staff didn't seem to care about this. At dinner the food wasn't so terrible, but at the buffet you found near always the same kind of food.
Moreover, to reach the beach, we had to walk for 1km on a dangerous road without pavement and to reach Lindos we were obliged to use a taxi because the street is uphill, without pavement and quite dark by night.

Not too much word to spend for this hotel. I can only say that the room was always dirty and the bathroom very very small and old. The food was terrible, low quality everywhere. The management is not friendly.... I'll NEVER BACK HERE.....

I have stayed at this hotel in each of the last 3 years. While the hotel is very basic, and the bathrooms very small, that is not really a problem, as it is to be expected in this type of hotel. Each time I have stayed there the main problem has been that when things are broken in the room, or don't work, no one seems to be able to get them fixed. Even that though has been tolerable. But the difference this year was in the quality of the food and the service in the restaurant. And in particular the attitude of the Chefs. On one evening I was served up a particularly burnt offering that purported to be an omelette. I do not eat meat, but do eat fish. However, when I complained and asked to see the 2 very young men who were the chefs I was made to wait 20 minutes before they finally appeared. There attitude was one of aggression towards me, mixed with a clear 'couldn't care less' attitude. When I asked quite politely if they were happy to send a dish like that out of their kitchen they shrugged their shoulders, and one attempted to walk off. When I then asked if they would be happy to eat the omelette I was told by one of them that he would be "as he wasn't fussy". Finally, nearing exasperation I asked if he thought customers deserved respect, and was told that I had to "earn respect in order to get respect". At that point I gave up. They clearly did not see anything to apologise about, and the hotel management and the tour company did not take any further action or offer me any apology - which was a pity given my previous visits to the hotel. I will not be returning.
