We arrived at Castel Bigozzi in mid October and were enchanted. This is a very old former castle from 1260+ and located on top of a hill.
We found several very quiet hotels on our Italy trip, but this was by far the most quiet and the most beautiful place. Very romantic.
Our room had blue wooden indoors shutters which made the room and the luxurious bathroom totally dark, so we were able to sleep longer in the morning.
The bathroom had a shower with wooden planks which I've never seen before, you cannot slip and fall.
The only negative thing (but I will rate this hotel 5 stars nevertheless) was my bed (twin beds) where the part that was supposed to carry my mattress did rest on the bed frame. Fortunately my husband discovered the next morning what was wrong with the mattress and just pushed it back into position and away from the bed frame. The next night I slept much better!
This is a very quiet hotel. Even though there were other hotel guests, we never heard any noise at night and assume that the walls of the room must be very thick. A big plus!

When we arrived there was still enough light to take lots of pics from all sides of the hotel, the olive trees, the vineyard next to the swimming pool and the surrounding hills.
BTW this is the kind of swimming pool where you have a great view of the valley and the surrounding hills some of which have a mansion on top of it.
The all you can eat breakfast buffet is in an adjacent building and offered a lot of delicious things like pain au chocolat, croissants, yogurt, exotic fruit and regular fruit etc.

On the morning when we finally left (we would have enjoyed staying a few more days!) there was some morning fog. So we went to the swimming pool and noticed that a few hill tops were not covered by fog which was an unforgettable view.
If we ever visit Italy again, this hotel will be a must. We recommended it to our friends and relatives.

It's only 10 to 15 minutes to the old walled village of Monteriggioni. Siena is not much further. BTW Siena has a public parking where you can take several escalators high up to the old part of town, so you don't need to walk uphill.

Room Tip: Ask for the room with the blue indoor shutters, it's on the opposite side of the parking. Make...

This was a tough one, because my husband and I really liked the property, but there were too many niggles to rate it higher. We stayed for a week in October, and the hotel was a great base to tour the region.

The location is great, not far from Monteriggioni, up on a hill and surrounded by olive trees, so very peaceful, and the staff are friendly. We were travelling with our 10 month old, so didn't take advantage of the restaurant in Strove, but it is highly rated in The Rough Guide. We tended to eat lunch out, then have a picnic evening meal at the hotel in the grounds, thanks to the good weather.

Our suite was a good size, a living room with 2 sofas and a chair, a bedroom with traditional furniture (bed very comfortable, my husband even checked out the mattress manufacturer!) and a large bathroom with a walk-in shower, with a rainshower head at one end, and normal head at the other.

So, what didn't we like? Housekeeping needs to improve. The baby's clothes were really dirty within minutes of being allowed to crawl around the suite, and the bathroom floor wasn't mopped while we were there either. Toilet paper ran out on day 5 and wasn't replaced, and our bins weren't always emptied. I have no doubt that had we asked reception, this would have been rectified immediately, as our fridge also died, and was replaced within 10 minutes of asking, but I don't think I should have to ask for toilet paper.

There were no hooks to hang things anywhere, which would have been useful when showering, and no toilet roll holder- it just sat on a shelf behind you, above your head, requiring some twisting, which is presumably why the toilet seat wouldn't stay in place either.

Breakfast was included in our rate, but was pretty uninspiring and clearly produced to a very tight budget, maybe not such a problem if you're only there for a couple of days, but we were sick of it after a week.

We got a good deal through Expedia, but the rack rate for our room was 240 Euros a night, which I think is overpriced as it currently stands. If improvements do take place over the winter, certainly give this place a try, but we'll probably go elsewhere if we return to Tuscany.

+we stayed at bigozzi in june/july and had a fantastic holiday

all the staff were great, but we particularly remember Massimo ,laura and vittoria, and the truly lovely lady who cleaned our room

we were planning our return trip for summer 2014 ,and the staff were so sweet and took great interest in an issue about how and where to park my car which doesn't have a roof/windows/windscreen !!!

the pool was clean and lovely, and we enjoyed touring around the area

the hotel is quite remote, and a car is really a necessity

Ideally located in the Siena / Florence / San Gimignano-area. Beautiful views. Nice swiming pool. Perfect breakfast place. Nice, hardworking staff, that speak good English. You do need a car however, otherwise you are in the middle of nowhere. The rooms could do with some maintenance.

5 star service from Laura, Victoria, and the lady who served breakfast. They were eager to please and assist. Laura and Victoria speak English at a high level and were able to help us find local restaurants, attractions and grocery stores. Castel Bigozzi was a welcome peaceful stop after 2 hectic days in Venice. Must agree with other reviewers accommodations were only 3 star. Floors in room need to be mopped, no place to put clothes after unpacking, beds were not comfortable. Rooms dark. Housekeeper did not bring us soap and TP, we had to request it.

Our 6th visit and we will not be back till the hotel is cleaned up and the rooms updated. Basic problems are housekeeping - tiled floor was dirty on arrival and not washed during a 7 night stay. Requests to replace broken lights made 4 times and not addressed. Safe not working and nobody could fix it. Bathroom dirty and outdated.

We have seen Bogozzi decline over the years - first visit in 2003 there was bread and croissants baked in the hotel - now it all comes from the local COOP.

Location, pool and views are terrific but basic hotel standards are poor. Very sad.

Dear Guest,
we are sorry to read this note. In this way we perceive as vain every attempt to make your stay comfortable. However, we hope that at least a part of your large family memories with pleasure the days spent in our hotel. Surely we will treasure of his suggestions to improve the service at Castel Bigozzi. For the next winter we will take some time to value the season of 2013 and preparing some renovation of the estate for next season. We all wonder to hit the mark in our services and our quality. We wish for you the best and we are at your disposal. Best regards.

Castel Bigozzi offers a lovely peaceful location in which to enjoy this part of Tuscany. The rooms, whilst fairly basic were comfortable and clean. My only criticism was that the bathroom was a little dark - however that is not uncommon for Europe. The grounds of the hotel were lush and well maintained and offered wonderful views over the surrounding countryside. Whilst it was too cool to swim the pool area was large with lots of outdoor furniture provided and a fantastic view that i enjoyed for many hours. Breakfast each morning was served on a verandah which enabled you to get your morning fix of fresh country air. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I went on some great walks/rides while staying here, however a car is necessary if you wish to sightsee.
