Stayed in a superior room at the Alexander for a week in August '09. Really liked the hotel. It was very much as we expected from info and reviews: situated beside the lake, close to the town. Road between the hotel and lake, but not the main coast road. Room was spacious, comfortable, quiet, cool and well lit. Balcony had view of lake. Good breakfast, friendly, helpful staff. Ate in adjoining restaurant on 2 evenings; food excellent.
Only issue was shower and basin in the room. Not a problem as I was with my husband, but think I would have preferred more privacy if I had been with a female friend.

Just got back from the Alexander. Firstly it has a great location with most rooms having a lake view albeit you have to look over a road to see it. It is just on the edge of the town which suits us as it is not too noisy at night and a pleasant stroll into the small town which has a few nice restauraunts if you want to eat out. We did eat out most of the time as the hotel food in the evening was a little limited and the downstairs dining room included in our half board package was lacking in atmosphere. I couldn't fault the hotel really given that we got such a good price through lastminute.com although as others have said it is more nice 3 star than a 4 star. Best suited for couples I would say particularly given the slightly odd bathroom arrangement of separate toilet but the sink and shower are in the bedroom although they are screened off a bit.

We booked a week's half board at the Alexander, a week before travelling through last minute.com. The hotel had only been open a month and was all, if not more, than we could have wished for. Superb location short walk from main centre and across the road from the beach (lake beach so don't expect sand!) Staff were really friendly, we arrived quite late but a cold plate of meats, cheese and bread was awaiting us accompanied by a carafe of wine and water.

We were given a (large) room by the pool with table and chairs outside next to the pool area, but the manager immediatley apologised and said we should have been given a balcony room. He offered to move, us if we wished, the next morning, which we did as we both prefer the privacy of a balcony. Our new room was also excellent, well appointed, loads of wardrobe/drawer space and air conditioned, balcony had a view of the lake and mountains. Meals were good all week, dinner was 3 courses plus salad (although the salad was the same each night!) Choices for vegetarians appeared limited though! The only comment I would make would be that it would be nice for guests to be able to sign for your drinks (which weren't included) as you had to go to the cash desk by the bar to pay each night. The restaurant is very popular with non guests and did great traditionally cooked pizza. Continental breakfast was served in the outside restaurant and there was a good selection.

Swimming pool was a decent size and immaculately clean, with plenty of sun beds on an astro turfed area (although you go to Lake Garda to explore, not sunbathe, it was nice to have somewhere to relax after all day on your feet!) Would have been nice to have a drinks area or waiter service by the pool as you had to go inside the restaurant to the bar for drinks.

I suspect the Hotel Alexander, as well as its restaurant the Pirata will do well, due to both its convenient location, the friendly staff and its general overall high standards. We'd certainly go back.

We arrived in Limone late on Saturday 30th August so did not appreciate the fantastic scenery we were driving through. The hotel was welcoming and had left cold meats and bread for us. The Alexander has only been opened for a month, and there is still work being done at lower levels, but it wasn't too disruptive. The room was large and airy. I wasn't keen on having the shower cubicle in the room - it would have been fine for a couple, but I was sharing with my sister and would have preferred slightly more privacy. The toilet was a problem, during the night really revolting smells came through the extractor fan and we did have to mention it to reception. Not sure what they did, but it was a bit better after that. The swimming pool and terraces were lovely, as was the reception and restaurant. We had breakfast out on the terrace which was great, but in the evenings the hotel guests on half board had to sit inside, as the terrace was used for other paying clients. It was very hot when we were there, so I didn't like having to swelter inside, but the food was nice, although the set menu slightly restrictive. The staff were all lovely and helpful, with some real characters amongst them. Where the Alexander really scores the points is it's position - it's fantastic, only 2 minue walk to the centre of the old town and the boat jetties. It's right on the edge of the lake and has wonderful views. I'm not sure I would put this as a 4 star hotel - there was no swimming towells provided and there was not a bar area to sit with just a drink, but I'm splitting hairs. I would definately stay again as the area is just magical.
