“great location but tired/dated and needs tlc and energy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2013

This could be such a lovely place with a little work/investment. The location is excellent right on the main promenade lakeshore of the old town. The bones of the bullding are 16th century overlaid with tired 1960s/1970s/1980s decor.

We booked a junior suite with lakeview balcony for three nights as part of a two-week trip.

So here it goes: there's no aircon just a fan in your room which isn't terribly effective in the very hot and humid nights/evenings. First night we left one of the french windows open for air and almost had a heart attack when woken by furry warm animal at our heads. Turned out to be cute, friendly neighbouring young cat but you can imagine middle of the night, dark . . . we weren't the better of it :-)

We asked for ice - not available - so got it from the restaurant in front with drinks we paid for each night.
At breakfast - we were informed they couldn't do espressos or cappucinos because they "don't have the machine". So what you get is a pot of the most tasteless brown liquid instead. The famous stove top espresso pot obvioulsy not an option! Breakfast buffet had plenty of the usual plastic cheeses/salamis and pre-pack spreads etc; the bread choice was poor so after night 1 we didn't bother with breakfast.

The restaurant/cafe in front has the same name and is 'connected' in some way but is also separate so there isn't an option to breakfast there instead though they do have 'the machin!

What's good: there's parking and wifi on site. the location is great and the view lovely. Giuseppe in reception was very nice, kind and helpful. Price of 140e per night was good.
The junior suite was clean, spacious but decor was tired/dated. The balcony terrace was again spacious but visibly rundown with poor quality furniture. Bathroom consisted of double sink then separate area for shower, wc and bidet. Again decor wise was tired and dated but it was clean and all worked fine.

This could be a great little hotel - it has spacious rooms both for guests and the public areas, and some lovely period features along with a very pleasant front of house person in Giuseppe. It just needs money and energy to bring it into the 21st century. It isn't unreasonable to expect ice, decent coffee and tasteful decor to be available to guests.

Room Tip: Ask for a lakeview room with terrace/balcony.

Li aspettiamo.

Of the various towns and villages around Garda Lake, Limone rates at once as one of the most colourful and picturesque, and as the typical tourist trap. The only Italians one gets to see are the shop owners touting their goods (leatherware and limoncello), not infrequently immediately in German, so one has to specify "non siamo Tedeschi !", which usually sparks a flow of Italian and a generally more friendly attitude. As the name suggests, Bellavista offers a beautiful view over the lake and the mountains on the opposing shore, provided one manages to secure a lakeside table (see picture). The menu is attractive, genuinely Italian, and the choice of wines quite appetizing. What a pity, then, that the primo piatto (a trio of pasta) reached us undercooked (the meat inside the canelloni still pink, the ravioli a bit harder than al dente, and the lasagne tepid), and that our complaint received a shrug as only response. The secundo piatto was nothing out of the ordinary, the aim apparently being just to feed the guests rather than give them some visual and gustatory pleasure as well. If in mid-June the staff is already exceeded by the hordes (shiploads) of tourists, one trembles at the thought of what it's going to be like in July and August. Also, one loo for gents and two for ladeis such a large restaurant is not enough to meet the needs, and unfortunately gives the staff little time to keep the sanitary infrastructure dry and clean.

Room Tip: While we're talking about Limone, both churches (San Rocco and San Benedetto) are well worth a v...

We found this little gem of a B&B some years ago and have returned many times.
Set on the lake side we book a junior suite - two lovely sized rooms with views across Lago sul Garda, balcony, fridge, TV (Italian) and safe. No air conditioning but fan supplied.Sun decks and hot tub.
Continental breakfast; fruits, meats, cheese, eggs, yogurts, breads & rolls etc.
The owners are very friendly and helpful.
By allowing a week or two each way when driving down you can enjoy France,Germany and Austria. You also need two weeks in Limone to enjoy the area. Flying is not really an option due to 2/3 hour transfers.
Cars not allowed into the village and all buses/Taxis run from southern end car park.
Hotals use golf buggies to transport luggage due to very narrow streets and tunnels

Room Tip: Most rooms with lake views, but can be noisy early mornings with street cleaners, rubbish collection...
