My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 11 days with First Choice.
The hotel rooms are basic, I think you can get something very similar, if not slightly better, for a lot less at a Travelodge, they need a total redecoration and overhaul. The hotel is very much catering for the German's and as such there is only 1 English television channel, BBC World News, obviously I dont go on holiday to watch TV but on the day that it did rain during our break it got tiresome very quickly!!!
The food was pretty basic but I think when you have self service buffett for that many people I think it has to be, it was all perfectly nice though, although it does get a bit samey after a while, so we missed one lunch and one dinner and ate out instead. The guy who runs the restaurant, Johnny, was great and made us feel welcome every evening, on our first morning we arrived downstairs for breakfast about 2 minutes before it was due to finish and he made us go in and take our time and have as much as we wanted he said "our job is to serve you when you want it" which was a lovely touch. In terms of lunch, we ate by the pool each day (except on the day of bad weather when we ate in the restaurant). This was very basic; salad, hard rolls, hard fruit, one pasta dish, chips and one other dish, something like hamburgers, fish, escalope, frankfurters.
The animation team didn't really have much to do as it was nearly the end of the season for them, so they were mostly sat around the pool playing cards, they did organise 2 days of aqua aerobics and an archery session, they came around the pool asking if we wanted to join in in German, and when we asked beg your pardon they continued to speak German and eventually walked off. The men were much better at being friendly and chatting than the women.
We booked to go on the trip to Venice by Night which was great and also spent a day going over to Malcesine, both of which are worthwhile.
One problem we found with the hotel was the location, whilst only a 20 minute walk from town and there is a free shuttle bus (which only runs till around 18.00) it is the last drop off and first pick up for the airport and any trips. We left our house in Hampshire at 03.30am and arrived at the hotel long after lunch, by which point we were pretty tired and hungry, and then on the return we were picked up from the hotel at 05.30 but our flight wasn't till gone 10am as we had to spend over an hour picking people up from other hotels all around the lake! The day we went to Venice we were picked up at 09.30 and arrived in Venice (about 2 hours away) at 2pm as we spent 2 hours picking others up, I think there must be some other way around this design, if not I would recommend staying in another town round the lake, unless you like early starts and sitting on coaches with no toilets!
I think the hotel is very much designed for the older generation, it is an early start; early to bed type place. Although we are young we aren't party animals or anything but there simply wasn't anything to do in the evenings, after dinner, which finished by 20.30 they had a bit of music in the main bar and that was it, so we spent most evenings in our room after dinner or on our balcony playing cards or reading. Plus the walk to and from Limone gets a bit tiresome after a few days in a row!
All in all we had a very relaxing time sat by the pool most days in the sunshine, which was the idea of the holiday. However there was definately room for improvement and we wouldn't stay here again. We have now seen what we want to see of Lake Garda, which really is a beautiful place, but 11 days of the German's dogs and attitudes is quite enough!

Room Tip: Make sure you book a superior room if you have the choice, we did and it was basic, so hate to think what the actual normal rooms were like. We have a lovely view of the lake from our balcony and were close to the pool.

,My husband and I stayed at this hotel for 2 weeks in september and can honestly say it is a relief to be home!! The atmosphere in the hotel could be cut with a knife.
The two things that have never been mentioned on previous reviews that have bothered me about LDV is firstly the pool/beach towels can only be changed once a week, how disgustong is that!? Secondly dogs are allowed to stay as guests at the hotel so the previous guests of your hotel room could have been a dog which has been given the full run of your room(not to mention any guests the dogs may be carrying!!), I think it is appauling that holiday makers who wish to bring their dogs along are not given their own block, instead they are located randomly throughout the hotel.

The food at this hotel is basic to say the least, with chips served twice a day, everyday. I am a chipaholic and even I got fed up of them. The dress code for the evening meal is Hiking boots, halfy trousers and a t-shirt and that is just the women.

The only member of staff we found to be genuine was the minibus driver!!

There is a lack of music at this hotel, perhaps this is because the majority of guests are 80plus, it was like an old peoples home. I have an hectic life so needed to chill, wellyou cant at this hotel because the bad atmosphere prevents this. You will see lots of couples retreating to their overlooked balconies after their evening meal to escape this atmosphere.

The weather, views and indoor pool at this hotel are lovely.

I would not book this hotel, unless you were only going for 1 week and then make sure you are in a group of four plus. The german guests are not satisfied with the whole run of the hotel, they want your space also. With myself and Husband being asked on two seperate occasions by German guests to move during evening meals so that they could sit near their friends.

In short this has been our worse holiday ever and we have travelled the world and stayed in numerous all inclusive.

Third time at LDV and just as lovely. Staff were fantastic as usual. Jonny remembered us and greeted us like old friends. Food in restaurant outstanding. Waiting staff were excellent, friendly and welcoming. Anna remembered us on reception and again welcomed us like old friends. We always have a superior room which was always cleaned to a high standard. Why people complain about lunch is beyond me. The breakfasts are terrific and you can eat as much as you want. Come lunchtime what more do you want? I always eat too much at lunch as well. Lovely pasta every day, fresh salads, cold meats and rolls. If that's not what you want there is always a hot dish i.e. sausages, schnitzel etc and CHIPS!!
all washed down with beer or wine if you want. The evening food, as I said, was wonderful,
vast choice, all beautifully cooked and flavoured.

The evening entertainment was very pleasant with visiting artists. Weather was not great, (first week of September) but we had enough sunshine to satisfy us. Went over to Malcesine for the day (Saturday Market) and had lunch over there and walked into Limone for the fireworks as we have previous years and had a wonderful week of rest and relaxation. Have booked again for same time next year.

Can't fault the staff in this hotel. The food was very good with plenty of choices - especially the puddings. Our rooms were excellent - 2 family rooms, one with access from the corridor, one with access from outside which was perfect. Meal times were a little hectic and we would have preferred a choice of restaurants, which is what we expected. Main problem was cigarette smoke. There was no provision for non-smokers in the outside sitting area. There was no smoking inside the hotel but because many smokers seemed to sit immediately outside the patio doors there was often a pervading smell of cigarette smoke within the entrance to the hotel. Perhaps this situation should be addressed by maybe providing a designated outside area for smokers.

The pools were well maintained and safe. The lakeside facilities were excellent with adequate sun beds and eating areas. The lunch time menu however was a little boring.

We much appreciated the tea and coffee making facilities and the fridge in the room.

Altogether though an excellent holiday.

well what can we say........WOW!!!!
we have just got back from a weeks stay at the LDV, ( our Honeymoon )
we were delighted with the Hotel and Staff who made our holiday perfect.
Situated as it is on Lake Garda, (which is stunning), it is fantastic value.
We must mention 'Johny', who runs the restaurant to a very high standard, he is very friendly and humourus.Everyone should book into the restaurant as it is such a luxurius feeling to be waited on personally.
Would recommend to everyone.
