“A nice place to visit”
Reviewed 28 August 2014

We saw the previous reviews on this hotel and wondered if we had chosen wisely! However we did, the rooms were clean ( hoovered every day) clean hand towels every day and the bath towels every other day. The bathroom was a bit small but adequate and the air condition a life saver. The food was good and the staff were really great. The hotel was only a five minute walk from the town of Garda. We were really amazed at the scenery and will most defiantly return soon. Good value for money.

We will be back next year.

We had our wedding reception in Le Palme restaurant even though we weren't staying at the hotel. The food was excellent. The chef was very helpful in accommodating everyone as there was a party of 27 with us. The staff organised everything for so all we didn't have to worry about a thing.

The swimming pool for this hotel is 75 metres away from the hotel and tiny. The food is OK, but if you are staying half board here you feel like a second class citizen. Hotel guests have breakfast on the balcony, but for your evening meal this is given over to paying customers and you are seated in an airless back room near the kitchens. The rooms are dismal and dreary. The hotel lounge is a tacky fake flower strewn room on the first floor, not somewhere you would want to spend any time in. The hotel is conveniently placed for the shops and the rooms with a lake view have a stunning outlook, but it's not a four star hotel by any standard! There were ants in the bathroom and flies around the buffet area. I was not impressed and would never return!

We spent 7 days at Le Palme on an Inghams package in mid July. Our room was on the second floor with wonderful full-on lake view from the two windows, but no balcony. (I believe there are only a couple of premium rooms with a shared balcony). The room was modest in size but elegantly decorated and furnished with period furniture. The double bed (austrian twins) was firm but very comfortable. The room had two chairs and a desk plus ample wardrobe storage space and a small refigerator/ minibar where we stored our own bottled water and fresh milk. In-room tea/ coffee making facilities were provided and a modern tv provided the usual range of continental channels plus Sky News and BBC World News. The adjoining shower room (super shower/ wc/ washbasin) was excellent. All was kept scruplously clean with a daily maid service. The only slight negative about the room was that the air conditioning in the room was unable to cool the room sufficiently during the high temperature (over 30C) days we experienced. Consequently, on occasions we had difficulty getting to sleep at night until the room cooled. It is only for this reason that I rate my review of Le Palme as 4 star rather than 5 star.

All the hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Breakfast provided a very wide ranging good quality buffet (including cooked options) and was taken in the lakeside terrace restaurant with lovely queit views across the lake. Dinner was taken at an allocated table in the inside restaurant rather than on the terrace, which is reserved for al-la-carte diners. Some Tripadvisor reviewers have moaned about residents not being routinely able to use the terrace for dinner. However, we did not find this to be a problem at all, as the main restaurant was actually very nice, and cooler than on the terrace. Moreover, inside we were protected from breathing other peoples tobacco smoke. (A significant minority of tourists to the Lake Garda area are smokers and we soon learned that we needed to seek out seats in outside bars/ cafes well away from smokers.) The Table-de Hote dinner at Le Palme was consistently excellent. A very extensive salad/ starter buffet was followed by a choice of four dishes for the second course, a choice of four dishes for the main course and finished with an excellent dessert buffet. The variety of dishes offered over the week was huge and the quality was always superb. Drinks (choice of wine, beer, bottled water or soft drinks ) were included in our package, which was very welcome. Your choice for second course and main course was made at breakfast and we really looked forward to dinner each day. Service in the restaurant for us was just right - fast enough but not too rushed. The hotel also has a pleasant canopied garden bar/cafe area, where we enjoyed afternoon coffee and cakes. In the evening there is also a live musician/ singer several times a week.

The hotel's swimming pool is a couple of hundred yards away on a terrace overlooking the lake. It is quite attractive but relatively small and is shared with a sister hotel. All sunbeds were already occupied on the couple occasions we visited. On the third florr of the hotel is a small sun terrace (nine sunbeds and two sun umbrellas only) and a couple of jacuzzi tubs. We managed a morning on the terrace and the tubs were fabulous. On our one very rainy day we also used the comfortable old world lounge on the second floor, which was furnished with comfortable easy chairs and antique furniture.

Location of the hotel is directly on the lake and directly adjacent to the landing stage for the lake Garda boats. This provides very easy access for travelling to villages around the lake. It was also wonderful just watching the boats come and go all day, although there is no noise problem at night as the boats finish about 7.30pm until 8.00am the following day. We made several day excursions to the neighbouring lakeside villages, each of which was very enjoyable. Limone itself is a gem - we thought it was the most charming of the villages we visited. There is a lemon grove and museum which is well worth a visit, as well as a fascinating small Tourism Museum. A promenade with bars and cafes extends for more than a quarter of a mile, beyond which there is an extensive and well used shingle bathing beach on the lakeside. Behind the lakeside, Limone rises up steeply with lots of narrow cobbled streets, flower filled little squares and alleyways with the usual tourist shops etc - all traffic free. As expected, Limone and Lake Garda are not cheap areas: for example, a beer is Euro4.5 and ice cream specialities Euro6-8, coffee and cake/strudel Euro6-7.

On the Sunday evening, the resort hosted a superb free Music and Fire/Magic event on the promenade, with several different music or magic groups of entertainers, who were very good. A highlight was a "dancing waters" feature whereby a giant water tank fitted with various variable fountain configurations and coloured lighting and fire effects was synchronised with music ranging from Tchaikovsky to popular songs and hard rock, culminating in "The Final Countdown". The effect was stunning and brought back childhood memories of the end of the first half of summer shows at Blackpool Opera House and Blackpool Tower Circus, where they staged a similar water feature.

Overall we had a lovely albeit hot holiday in Limone and would recommend Le Palme Hotel. In mid July it was inevitably very busy in the area and, although this did not detract unduly from our enjoyment, we speculate that it might be absolutely perfect in Spring and Autumn if there are a few less visitors at those times.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front offer uninterrupted lake views.

The coach drop off point for this hotel is a few minute walk away due to it's location in the centre of Limone. When we arrived the hotel's small electric transport was waiting to take us to the hotel so our trip could begin.

Check in was very fast and I was soon on my way to my room to unpack. I was situated directly above reception (room 101) overlooking the back small streets at the back of the hotel. Not a problem for me as I only intended to frequent my room for sleeping, the hotel does have Lake view rooms available so if this is a requirement then I would request one. The room for me was exactly what I was expecting from a small Italian hotel. It had all of the necessary mod cons including tea/coffee making facilities, wall mounted TV (Sky News & BBC World News for English speakers), plenty of wardrobe (incl coat hangers) and drawer space. The room was small but had everything that I needed! I think a few previous reviewers have some unrealistic views on what a "boutique" Italian hotel offers in terms of space!

The location of this hotel is spot on. Situated right in the middle of Limone you are on the doorstop of your local shops and restaurants. Also next door to the hotel is your local Ferry service for trips across the Lake. This Ferry stop only caters for foot passengers so you will not be disturbed by any increase in noise when the ferries come and go.

Being half board I had Breakfast and Evening Dinner (With drinks included). Both were more than adequate with great choices available. I would say that the one thing that lets down the evening meal a little (and prevented me from giving this review 5 stars) was the evening service. I had no issues AT ALL with the politeness of the waiting staff, there just seemed to be a lack of direction/organisation so one person would clear away plates from one course and it would take a little while for the next person to realise you were waiting for the next course, but all in all this is a very minor gripe and didn't deter from me having a great stay.

SO in summary, if you are looking for a great base to explore Lake Garde, in a good clean hotel, in a great location then this is a perfect place and I would happily return.

We visited this hotel for a week in the latter end of June 2014. We were met from our transfer mini bus by a lady from the hotel in a little electric van with seats in it! She was very friendly and it was a very different mode of transport to arrive at your hotel! Once at the hotel we were quickly booked in and shown to our room which was on the first floor overlooking the lake and right next to the ferry landing. The room was clean though quite dated, but then that is the style of the hotel, so that was what we had expected. One surprising feature was that there was tea and coffee making facilities in the room which is very rare throughout Europe. The room was equipped with a fridge which had a few items in it, leaving enough room for a few items of our own, although it wasn't very cold and struggled to keep things cold. The Air con in the room was also a little poor, only really acting like a fan as opposed to making the room cool. It was very hot while we were there, so the Air Con being cooler would have been an advantage for a better nights sleep.
Breakfast was adequate but was the same everyday with no variations, but this was compensated by the lovely lakeside terrace where breakfast was taken.
Our first couple of evening meals were quite acceptable, with as much wine, beer or soft drinks as you wanted included in the half board rate which was welcomed!
On the Friday evening they had a gala dinner which was disastrous. They insisted that everyone was in the restaurant for 7pm, but after your initial salad starters there was nothing for about an hour, one couple actually got up and left. Nobody explained how it worked and what was going on. The staff in the restaurant seemed unable to answer any questions.
After that evening the service in the restaurant deteriorated badly, which did put quite a
dampener on things, even though the food was very enjoyable.
The hotel is rated as a four star, but after staying in other four star hotels in the area this one did not compare favourably.

The hotel cannot be faulted on location, but other areas need to be improved.
Please note you have to pay extra for the safe in the room, and Wi-Fi also. Many other hotels these days offer these as standard.

Even though there are issues in the hotel that need addressing, it did not detract form an enjoyable week.
