“Old hotel with bad food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 August 2010

We had booked to another hotel of this group, which was overbooked and were transferred with 2 other couples to this hotel.

The food was horrible. While other guests in the restaurant eating à la carte got decent food, people with half pension got boarding school quality. Small portions of tasteless food, only frozen food, no fresh fish.

The dessert buffet was empty when only half of the guests had queued.

The breakfast buffet was more royal, especially witjh stale bread of the previous days.

The hotel has a swimming pool (very small) and you have to walk 500 meters on the public road, passing the queuing people for the embarking ferry boats, to reach it.

The bathroom dated out of the sixties and the shower doesnet have a curtain to prevent everything getting wet.

We sure do not want to recommend this hotel, with its past glory.

Have just returned from limone after spending 7 days at hotel le palme with my husband...and did not want to come home!! Having read many negative reviews before departing, we set of with some intrepidation. However, our fears were were unfounded. Hotel le palme is a very quaint, old style italian former villa, overlooking the lake. No it does not have 'modern' minimalistic decor which, sadly seems to be prevelant in many large , souless hotels these days. It's decor, is however, perfectly in keeping with it's style. We stayed in room 102, which was a very spacious double overlooking the bar terrace(could be a little noisy until after 11pm, due to evening entertainment, however, not a problem as we were on holiday and could enjoy a lie in!) Room was cleaned daily, lovely clean fresh bedding and towels daily.
Food was very good, an abundance of breakfast on offer, eveing meals were also good, plently to eat, if you can complain about the food in this hotel, you really are far too fussy and should probably stay at home and enjoy your burger and fries or fish and chips!!
The staff were very helpful and very welcoming. Limone is a beatiful resort with lovely public beaches, bar side cafes, tennis courts and sports facilities for adults and children alike. Beware if you have serious handbag addiction...you may need an extra case to come home with!
All in all, a fantastic holiday, romantic setting that would also be perfect for families. So don't be put off by negative comments regarding this hotel...come and see for yourself what you are missing.

Le palme is a great hotel, its current decor matches its history as a 17th century villa so not modern first rate but first rate in its own Italian way. the staff are fantastic and the balcony views awesome. good food in a restaurant right next to the lake. the hills surrounding the town of limone add to the beauty. A great place to stay and a great hotel.

We've just returned from a week at Le Palme in Limone. The place itself if beautiful, lots of little shops in the town and the scenery is amazing! The location of the hotel is perfect as it is right by the ferry terminal, but also in the centre of town. Some of the other hotels we dropped people off at were very far out - I wouldn't fancy walking up and down those hills!
The hotel itself is very Venetian in style, we really liked the decor of our room. It was a good size for what we needed, with a view of the street. It would have been nice to have had a lake side view but we booked very late so I knew this would probably be the case. It had all the things you would require, towels changed every day and the bed linen at least twice. The shared pool at the Splendid Palace was also very nice, great view. It was never crowded and we always got sun loungers.
The only downside to the hotel is the food. As half board guests, you have to sit inside the restaurant (rather than on the terrace with the lake view - this is reserved for non residence). There was no air con and the temperature was rather stifling. The food itself was bad, got worse, and then got slightly better. The worst meals consisted of a dry piece of grilled pork with some limp vegetables. My partner also found a piece of plastic in his swordfish steak, to which the reply was just a brushed off sorry. I wouldn't have minded so much but the food going out to the restaurant looked fantastic, and talking to some diners out there they couldn't fault it. So the chef can obviously cook, he just couldn't be bothered with the residence meals!
We would just eat out for lunch instead (there are some amazing restaurants - check out Il Noce by the church - best seafood risotto I have ever had!), and then just pick at dinner.
We were with Thomsons and went on the organised night tour to Venice. It was quite expensive but worth it I think - we left at 9.30am and returned at 2am so feel we got our money worth! It's quite a trek to try and organise yourself.
All in all, we had a wonderful holiday. The staff were great and the hotel and town great, just slightly let down by the food!

We have just returned from a week in Limone and are already making plans to go there again as we fell totally in love with the place! The staff in Le Palme were all extremely friendly and helpful, and although our room was fairly basic and on the small side, it was spotlessly clean and the wonderful view over the lake more than compensated. The location, as far as we were concerned, could not have been bettered as it was literally on the water's edge alongside the ferry terminal (a big plus after a tiring day exploring surrounding areas, as most of the other hotels involved a major uphill trek). During mealtimes and evening drinks in the bar we were able to enjoy regular visits from ducks, fish and a family of swans with little cygnets who used to swim alongside the hotel balustrade hoping for titbits. The food was the best we'd encountered on a half board basis - plenty of variety and very tasty. We'd set aside money to treat ourselves to the odd meal out as we enjoy sampling the local restaurants, but we never felt the need and dined in Le Palme every night. We preferred to use the ferry or local buses to explore the area rather than spend long hours confined to a coach on organised tours. We were very lucky with the weather but it would be advisable to take a lightweight waterproof as we met people who had encountered quite a bit of rain on previous holidays - Also if you take the cable car up Monte Baldo you can find yourself in cloud and will probably need a light sweater also. It is worth buying bottled water at Verona airport in order to enjoy the beautiful coach trip as it's quite a lengthy transfer, and also the small change in Euros is handy for tips if needed with luggage, etc. at the other end. (You can drink the tap water so hang on to your bottles and they can be used again) Some of the suggested walks around the lake are quite lengthy for the less able bodied (e.g. Riva to Torbole), and we also followed a walk on a leaflet we picked up in the tourist office to a waterfall which involved a hands and knees climb which didn't particularly worry us but these things are worth checking out beforehand for elderly visitors. This is a glorious location which will, I'm sure, provide plenty for everyone, young and old alike.

This is a great hotel in a pedestrianised part of Limone and next to the ferry point enabling quick and easy travelling to the other parts of lake garda. The resort is probably one of the best on the lake with superb views. The hotel le palme is small and unassuming but with great staff who help to make the holiday so enjoyable. Food is good and service is very friendly. The only downside for some people might be that the ferries come up so close the the hotel you could find yourself waving to the passengers - remember you are in Italy and on holiday, enjoy !

I’ve read quite a few mixed reviews about this hotel both before I went on holiday and on my return. This hotel really is all down to personal taste. There were six people in our party. We occupied two rooms on the 3rd floor and one room on the 2nd floor. Five of us liked the décor, room size etc and one of our group thought the exact opposite. The 3rd floor rooms were smaller but with showers rather than baths which I personally preferred. Room size was ample as we didn’t spend much time there and the air-con made our stay very comfortable. The 2nd floor room was bigger with a bath and a shower head, which you had to hold. All our rooms were very clean and attended to each day. The décor was traditional and charming although I can see this isn’t to everyone’s taste - I loved it though!

There was a good selection at breakfast – bread and cereal (well the one I had) wasn’t very fresh but sausage, bacon and eggs were tasty and a selection of meats, cheeses, croissants etc was on offer. Dinner choices were varied and on the whole pretty good and we left the dining room very full and satisfied each night. Drinks during dinner were also included which was a nice touch.

We had use of the pool at a sister hotel which was great and quiet in September although swimming in the Lake was nicer if slightly colder.

The hotel’s location and staff can’t be faulted. The staff are super friendly and very helpful should you need some advice. You have breakfast over looking the lake and it’s a short flat walk to shops and bars. The ferry port is right next to the hotel and the beach is about a five minute walk along the front. We kayaked on the lake, hired a speed boat, jumped on ferries, took a day trip to Venice –it’s a great holiday destination and I’ll definitely be back. I would highly recommend Hotel Le Palme!
