We have just returned from a wonderful holiday, staying at the hotel Castell in the resort of Limone. The staff could not have been more helpful or friendly and the hotel had everything needed but above all it was beautifully clean! It was so nice to find somewhere like this, nothing fancy - just kept spotless from the beautiful white towels and crisp sheets changed every day to seeing the staff cleaning the windows each day. The view from the balcony was breathtaking! Breakfast was lovely (we are missing the lovely assortment of really fresh breads already!) We chose what we wanted for dinner the evening before from 3 starters, 3 main courses and 3 deserts. Dinner always started with an array of different salads, followed by what we had ordered. Lovely service from 3 of the nicest, hardworking, cheerful girls you could meet. Rocco, the guy in charge, was always there if needed whatever time, with a smile. Who needs a big fancy hotel when you can have service like this!

Room Tip: All rooms have a lake view.

Where do I start the Castell might not be 5 star but what it lacks in some areas it more than makes up for in others. I have stayed all over the world often in 5 star establishments but never have I had a room / balcony with such a breathtaking view. This view alone was worth the money. The staff are without doubt the most friendly and helpful I have encountered from Roco who always went that one step further when I made any requests. An e-mail before we arrived was responded to with a new cot and high chair and nothing was too much trouble. Son stayed over the night before his wedding + breakfast - no problem. We needed an iron - a new one appeared. Wireless broadband worked well in lounge area. The staff were amazing both Andrea & Jaquline were real gems with whom we had a few laughs even though they were very busy - look after them Roco they made our holiday special. Room cleaner even folded my PJ's every day and put them under my pillow. Clean towels clean sheets spotless room - wow. En suite the smallest I have ever used but was able to clean my teeth whilst sat on the loo..... Ceiling fan and open balcony doors adequate even though sunny with cloudless skies - security not an issue seems to be very little if any crime in Limone so suggest that security concerns mentioned by others are not a problem. Food good typical Italian not 5 star but it is a 3 star hotel - we enjoyed every meal. Out of all my holidays this is one I will remember as one of the best - thanks to you all - you all played your part. Areverderci will certainly be back if these standards are the norm!!

Room Tip: All rooms overlook the lake an amazing location - get down to dinner at 7pm sharp for the best of th...

The hotel is in a great position with wonderful views over Lake Garda with 100 steep steps down to the old centre of Limone. The decor is a bit dated but it hardly matters as we weren't there to look at the interior walls. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and helpful eg lent us an electrical adaptor for the week. The food is OK; good continental breakfast and a choice for dinner with a good self service salad bar - oddly you have to choose tomorrow's dinner today. The dinner menu was rather repetitive but well cooked. Rooms are very clean and comfortable with a spacious balcony overlooking the lake; air con available for an extra 6 euros a day and a safe for 1 euro a day. The pool/sun terrace area is lovely. For a 3* hotel it is very good.
The hotel is really NOT suitable for tiny children/babies needing to be in a pram/buggy or anyone with mobility problems as the only way into town is via those 100 steep steps!

Where can I start? We have been on many holidays with Thomson and Crystal at a similiar budgets so I know my disappontment with this hotel is not a budget issue. We have had amazing hotels at similiar costs. We arrived after a long journey to be welcomed by "Oh. Let me see if your room is ready" almost as if we were an inconvience. We were thrust a key, given directions, and given a room that we then referred to as the cave for the rest of the week. The rooms are small, the shower room small and unattractive, the furniture in the room was dated and one of the single beds that were pushed together as a double squeaked so much it became embarrising to even move in it!

Thank goodness every room has a view. A stunning view. The waitresses were lovely and the rooms were kept very clean.

Food was very basic and it seemed that the chef had a very tight budget to keep to as there were definetly no frills to the breakfasts or evening meals.

Limone is beautiful and the location of the hotel was great. Shame about the manager ( who never smiled once at us ) and the tired rooms.

this hotel was in a lovely position, a 1 minute walk to the centre where the restaurants, shops & bars are. the views were beautiful.
the breakfast was ok- normal continental breakfast.
the rooms/ hotel areas were dated- not very modern but they were clean & tidy. i noticed quite a few hotels were dated so i think its the way they like it.
the staff were friendly and helpful. we had some car troubles and the lovely man called them and sorted it all out for us.

Room Tip: we had room 1 and it had a nice view from the balcony. (i think rooms 1-4 were the same views)

Although basic Italian hotel, staff were very friendly and room although basic was cleaned daily , food was fine and value for money, we stayed on top level and views over lake were very good, lounge area could have been nicer , location of hotel is good but if not able for steps would be a bother. Pool was nice and also kept very clean. Have no complaints as we didn't go to sit in hotel room and would return without hesitation, all in all we had a very good holiday with no complaints.

We have just returned from a wonderful week in Limone, booked last minute with Thomson. We had previously booked a 4 star hotel with another tour company but were told a week before the flight that our hotel and destination had been changed so we cancelled and rebooked again, the 3 star Castell being only 1 of 2 options possible at that time. It was with some trepidation that we arrived at the Castell as we had read some of the mixed reviews. Our holiday, however, was truly memorable and any shortcomings in the hotel were, in my opinion, more than made up for by the staggering view from our balcony. The staff are very pleasant and helpful and our room was cleaned and towels changed daily. Sheets were changed twice during our stay. We booked half board and the food was plentiful each evening, starting with a salad/antipasto buffet and then progressing to pasta, followed by fish or meat dish and then a dessert. There was always a vegetarian option. Breakfast was fine also. This is not a gourmet experience but we enjoyed it. Guests do have to sit at the same table and have to choose the next day's evening meal in advance (bit like a hospital!) but this did not bother us at all. Drinks were reasonably priced and both food and drink were served with a smile from the 2 extremely pleasant waitresses. The hotel is built into the hillside and is right at the top of the village so most people had to go "downstairs" to their rooms. We were right at the end of the -2 floor, a room meant to sleep 3 so room or storage space was not a problem. The en suite was "snug" but ok. Soap and 2 sachets of shampoo were provided so take your own toiletries! Our room did not have a hair drier - not a problem for me but could be for some - but I do believe that other rooms had this piece of equipment. Our room, because it was right at the end of the corridor, had a large balcony with superb views. We also had the advantage of a gate and private (fire escape) stairs leading to the pool area. There are the oft mentioned steps down to the resort so if you have mobility issues, this is not the hotel for you. For us, the view and the close proximity to the centre of the resort, more than compensated for the climb back up. The only black mark I would give is the absence of air conditioning which should be supplied as part of the package. I believe most rooms have a circulating fan but our room did not. During our stay the temperature rarely dropped below 30 degrees and we slept with windows open, louvred shutters closed and fine drapes artfully arranged to keep out any biting insects! I believe that air conditioning could be purchased but, when asked, the member of staff to whom I spoke seemed very reluctant so I did not press the point. With temperatures expected to rise in the coming weeks, I most certainly would not be put off again if I were returning. My review is influenced strongly by the fact that we had a wonderful holiday in a stunning location, enjoying fabulous weather, at a bargain price. This is a 3 star hotel so should not be compared with the facilities of a 4 star. Would we stay there again - absolutely.

Room Tip: End of corridor rooms are set at right angles to the rest and enjoy large, private balconies.
