Arrived back from Limone on 20 August. I would describe Hotel Castell as a no frills hotel.

As this was our second holiday of the year we decided to go for a generally cheaper option hotel and room.

I don't know what the superior rooms were like but our room didn't have a fridge, hairdryer or tea/coffee making facilities.
Guests should bear in mind that this an old hotel so doesn't have the benefit of air conditioning. My partner and I sufferred on a couple of nights due to the warm conditions. We didn't feel secure in leaving the terrace open but brought a portable fan instead. It worked ok but in that warmth, a fridge to keep water and other drinks cool would have helped.

The room we had was on the lower terrace where the view of the lake was partially obscured by a tree. That said the advantage of this hotel was that all rooms are guaranteed a lake view . We could see from our balcony that some guests in other hotels wouldn't get a lake view at all. The views from the swimming pool and restaurant balcony are fantastic.

The pool and sun lounge area is small so get there early. We thought the evening meals and service were excellent. Unfortunately, the hostess was not of a cheery disposition.

Limone itself is a quiet, beautiful and clean looking town. If you want more activity and shopping options, take a trip to Malcesne. If you take the cablecar to Monte Baldo, check the weather first. Its a bit dissappointing to get up there and not have the panoramic views.

We would stay at the Castell again but would choose a superior room next time.

We stayed at the Hotel Castell for a week in August, half board. We'd belatedly seen the indifferent reviews on Tripadvisor, which turned out to be accurate.

My parents stayed at the hotel in 1997 at which time they thought it was 'basic, but OK'. I would say that the extra nine years of wear and tear, combined with 'skeleton' staff service and poor food now make it 'very basic and not really OK'.

Many of the rooms have obscured views, either by a large tree (in full leaf in August) or, as in our case, by a 4ft wall on the balcony edge, blocking the view when you're sat down in the evening with a glass of wine. The bathroom was very tired, with a rusty shower and poor level of cleaning, especially in the rather fluffy cavities of the radiator. No bath. The bar area was awful. It was very unwelcoming and we only saw a handful of people drinking in it. The staff were withdrawn (except the waiting staff, of whom there were too few) and looked disinterested.

If... and it's a big if... all areas were refitted and the menu was far better, this could be an excellent location, and it would just be down to the lottery on getting an unobscured view

Having spoken to guests staying at other hotels, all you really need to know is that there are much better choices. The 'Hotel Splendid' looked very good and guests at the 'Hotel Christina' said it was excellent, although not as well located.

Just returned from a week staying at the Hotel Castell. It was everything we expected from the brochure.
Firstly the views are amazing. I think it's maybe luck of the draw with the room you get and the quality of the view but my room (and I think most rooms) had a stunning view over the rooftops of Limone and accross the lake to the mountians. Most evenings were spend just sitting on the balcony taking in the atmosphere and the music from the hotel below (which was mostly very good). The rooms are very clean, a nice size, with new furniture and a nice bathroom. Yes there is no air con but this wasn't a problem as the sun goes off Limone by 5pm ish and the doors to the balcony let a lot of fresh air in. The breakfast buffet was good and the evening meals were everything you'd expect from a 3* hotel - 3 choices of each course. The pasta was very tasty. The longest we took to have the 3 course meal was an hour and a half which isn't bad at all and there are wonderful views again from the dining room! The Swimming Pool was big by my standards with, again, fantasitc views. Steps are nothing to go down (!) and not bad going up. There are benches to sit on if you get tired but most people should manage them no problem! Management and staff seemed very nice and helpful.

We just got back from a very bad holiday, staying at Hotel Castell. We went there to get a romantic vacation. Unfortunately we got a room with 2 seperate beds, so far apart and with a half wall between, that we could only see each others feet. We asked politely for a room with a doublebed/grandlit at the reception and was asked to wait til the next day - that was ok. But, then we met the manager! He was rude and arrogant and showing us no respect. He even told us, that he should have known our ages if we should get a room with a double bed and that the hotel only had 3 rooms with doublebeds (out of 90 beds). We decided to call one of the guides from the travelagency. Next day we were shown a much better room. We were happy, but then he got really rude - even when the guide was still there. We were chocked, dissapointed, sad and angry. But, we took the room - what else could we do - but unfortunately the mattreses were so bad and the beds were on wheels, so when you turned around at nigth the beds would move. The room gets very hot at night! The next day in the evening the staff at the diningroom were treating us very bad too. They didn´t want to wait on us and were very rude as well. So rude that you can´t imagine... The food you get is not very good and the salatbuffet is boring. Not very italian. We deciced not to eat there any more, even though we paid for it.
One good thing - there is a fantastic view from the balkony. But unfortunately it fades when you feel that you are so unvelcome.

We really liked this small hotel and would return there.
We loved the view from our spacious balcony.
The room was clean and well decorated with small shower room with good shower.
No air con or ceiling fan which was a disadvantage as the weather was very hot and humid so we would only return at a cooler time of the year.
The food was good -- good salad buffet although it could look quite depleted if you came in later! I enjoyed the fresh pasta and a good breakfast buffet for a 3 star hotel.
The service on the whole was good -- the staff had a lot of tables to look after and were rather rushed so don't expect too much!
Nice little pool and small terrace area with those great views.
The steps keep you fit although we didn't seem to get any faster by the end of the week!
