“Do Not Eat The Food”
Reviewed 2 July 2013

On arriving at our hotel late on our first day we see it is clean but a bit outdated and old fashioned but this does not bother us overly. The room again is very old fashioned and most annoyingly for a young couple no double bed just two singles pushed together. The bathroom is clean again but old fashioned the safe is key operated and the TV is a cathode ray (not seen one in a few years). After a quick shower we headed up to the dining room for are evening meal (We are half-board there is no other option as far as we can see). Starter is promising Raw Mushroom, parmesan and a little rocket followed by some spaghetti in tomato sauce (simple but tasty as Italian should be). Then followed by one of the most disgusting excused for food I have had since I left school. I had veal which arrives drenched in gravy (which tasted like it was from a packet Bisto). The cut of veal is one I have never had before perhaps a brisket, it had obviously had been pre sliced and been left to soak in the gravy for hours as it has no taste and is tough. Even worse and odd is that it is served with frozen French fries, and over cooked tinned green beans which are massively over salted. My girlfriend however is less lucky she had the fish which had been microwaved over cooked as it is covered in a soggy crust and the fish is as dry and tough as a bar mat. On inquiring we find that the fish is apparently from somewhere in Asia according to the hotel manager (so must come in bulk frozen). This is stunningly ridiculous not only is this Italy a country that champions its produces and its culinary arts, producing simple dishes that combine a few amazing fresh products. We are also staying next to a massive lake (we ate a lot of lovely lake fish at local restaurants). So after this shocking experience we did not eat dinner there again. Breakfast is another disappointment; Plastic textured Cheese from a Packet, salami from packet, over cooked scrambled egg TINNED half peaches in syrup and TINNED fruit salad; either frankfurters (Hot Dog sausages) or amazingly greasy German style sausage that when I cut into it was sprayed with hot grease ruining my clothes. On talking to other guest who eats there every night for over a week we heard the food did not improve and the weekly menu did not change. The young staff are great, however the managers are stern and acerbic and a little intimidating. Overall Room was ok little below par (apparently a four/three star hotel) Service Good and Bad parts, Food God Awful, Situation near town a nice walk away, View amazing.

Room Tip: One on the Top Or Bottom Floor better views, better balconies do not get a corner room.

Stayed for a week in June 13 and was extremely happy with our stay, the views were amazing, the rooms were good and spotlessly clean, the maids cleaned room everyday and they never seem to get much credit on review forums so well done to them. The staff were absolutely fantastic, they couldn't do enough for you and they were also very very pleasant. I was beginning to wonder if Livy ever went home because she seemed to always be there, but I saw her go home at 10:45pm one evening, she was there from before 6:30am, she was always welcoming and pleasant and she walked out with every guest when the were leaving to say goodbye, better service you won't find.

The walk along the sun trail is very up and down, the hills are steep but it really is a beautiful walk with plenty of pit stops if you need them.
The road really isn't that bad at all, less than 100 yards along the road until you get to footpath but it is very well lit up at night and not a problem at all, rather that than those steps.
Shuttle bus only available until 5pm, maybe because not a lot were using it or the hotel did not want their guests to go elsewhere to drink at night.

Limone itself is such a beautiful place and they had some event on at least once a week on the promenade, should it be a rock show, opera the lake or even classic cars along the promenade for photo opportunities.

Took the ferry to Malcesine (9 euros return) and went up on cable car, wow what a view and 2nd cable car turns 360 degrees so everyone gets a great view, a most do if you visit.

Weather was seasonably high around 38/40 degress so my top tip if you get very warm weather, jump on the slow ferry to Riva, (10 euros return), it takes around 30 minute to get there and 40 minutes back because it stops at Torbole on way back, the breeze on the lake is really refreshing.

This was our 1st trip to Italy and it was amazing, we are really pleased we chose the Villa Dirce

Room Tip: The higher the room number the lower down you are on hotel, all floors have stunning views but 2nd f...

We only had 3 nights so we had to make the most of it which I think we managed .
Hotel setting amazing . Staff great . Very clean everywhere. Swimming pool beautiful.
Down sides :- if you have room 303 ask to be moved. Think this must be the only room with partial view, when you walked into the room and looked out we were greeted with a wall, I was very disappointed as I chose this hotel for the balcony views, however as we were there for such a short time it didnt matter as we were out or in the pool or on the terrace most of the time.Im sure they would have moved us if we had requested it.
I was a little disappointed with the food until the Gala night when they excelled themselves, why couldnt they have produced food to the same standard all week ?
We knew the hotel was just outside the village and we enjoyed the walk every day and were glad to be away from the bustling village.
Would definatly go back to Limone but not sure if I would return to Villa Dirce unless I had a guaranteed full view balcony, and food improved.

Room Tip: Don't go in room 303

overall we enjoyed our stay at Hotel Villa Dirce. the service was excellent, accomodation good & the food of a reasonable standard. The only small niggle was that the shuttle bus into Limone finished at 5pm. Therefore to get into town of an evening you would have to either pay about €8 for a cab or walk the 1 mile or so to town. However, overall for the price we paid the hotel represents good value.

We have just returned from a fantastic week at Lake Garda. We stayed at Limone Sul Garda which is a beautiful lakside town. The hotel Villa Dirce is excellent. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the food is great. The room was not huge but very clean and comfortable.
Now the best bit. On opening the doors on to the balcony the views took our breath away! The hotel is built into the rock face so all rooms face out onto the lake and across to Malcesine and the towering Monte Baldo. Every day brought a different view as the clouds rolled over the mountains and lifted to allow the sun to shine through.
Breakfast is a buffet style with plenty of choice. Cereals, fruit, cold meats and cheeses and eggs, boiled or scrambled, with bacon or sausage on some days.
Evening meals are 4 course served to the table plus a buffet salad which is excellent.
The walk into Limone is slightly up and down and takes around 20 to 30 minutes depending on how often you stop to amire the scenery.
Limone is a beautiful town with a nice harbour front and narrow streets leading off with nice restaurants and shops.
We hired a car which personally I think is a must as there are some amazing places to visit. You can cross to other lakeside towns by ferry such as Malcesine, Riva or down to Sirmione but there are many other places away from the Lake that a car really opens up the experience.
Lago de Ledro is one such place. A smaller Lake higher up the mountains and very picturesque. Another is Tremesine, on the top of the mountains above Limone with amazing views and the road up is unbelievable as you appear to be driving in and out of caves. There is a easier drive up but no way near as much fun.
We will definitely be back soon.

Just back from the Villa Dirce after a week there. I can only agree with the other comments the view is spectacular from the balcony, we were in 208 and all of the rooms face Lake Garda as the back of the hotel is built into the hill. The staff are excellent, attentive and very helpful. Livy is almost as big an asset to the hotel as the view! Food was plentiful with a good selection every day. Rooms were a good size and were cleaned every day and we got clean towels every day, went for breakfast and when we got back the rooms were done. Hotel provided free Wi-Fi, and safe deposit box. There is a walk of about 15 minutes to Limone itself but the walk is along a path away from the main road and passes little bars and restaurants. Limone itself has a good selection of bars and cafes. Worth paying a visit to the Lemon Museum in the centre of Limone. Ferry leaves from the centre of Limone and the services is excellent. A trip up Mont Baldo by cable car is a must as the views back to the mountains on the Limone side are spectacular and the walks on the top are great.
We took the trip to Venice, a 6:30 start but worth it, only problem was not enough time there so this is going to cost me another trip there but well worth it.
I have to say the Villa Dirce is a hotel we will certainly revisit.
