We had read some negative reviews on the hotel villa dirce on trip advisor but were pleased and relieved at the excellent stay we had here. The staff were all friendly and spoke english and german, which satisfied all guests, we asked for an early breakfast one day as went on a trip to the dolomites and they arranged it for us. The food was excellent and amazing value for money if you book in with the package holiday. For breakfast there was a choice of ceral, fruit, bread, and cooked breakfast, and dinner was salad, pasta/soup, main course and desert, so never went hungry! I was especially pleased with the veg and fruit on offer, as some hotels seem to be lacking in healthy options!
All the rooms had lake views, the swimming pool is small but great for cooling off in and the walk to the beach is around 10mins and into limone around 15-20mins.
We really enjoyed our stay and would definatley go back, Limone is beautiful and the hotel was great value for money.

The hotel was fine for what we were looking for, a bed for the night. The location was nice with stunning views over Lake Garda, this is one of the only hotels where all rooms have a view. The rooms were kept very clean and towels were changed daily. The breakfast was continental with bread, ham, cheese, eggs etc. Our main criticism was that we had booked half board and wanted to eat out in Limone in the evening and found that we received rude comments in italian which we understood when we explained that we would be eating out. Other than this however the staff were very friendly and helpful. The only other point of concern for us was on returning to the hotel at 11pm we found that the gate at the back of the hotel was locked which meant we had to walk down the main road. It is only about 200 yards but there is no pavement and we felt quite vulnerable walking this route.

booked last minute and therefore got good deal. hotel great value for money. rooms lovely and clean. views beautiful. lake garda is one of the most beautiful places i have been to. quite a walk into town up and down hills but manageable and there is a bench half way with stunning views over the lake. the dining room has beautiful views. breakfast is great, dinner not so but there was nothing to complain about. the staff were very friendly and helpful. you can get a hotel minibus into limone for l euro but it only goes a couple of times a day, but good for the lift back. swimming pool small and not many sunbeds. there is a whirlpool which was nice after the walk back from town. nice quiet hotel, on the edge of limone, near the entrance to one of the tunnels but that doesnt spoil anything.

We have just returned after a fortnight at the hotel. The one reservation I would have about it would be for those who are not particularly wanting the 20 walk into town and 20 minutes back. The return is virtually completely uphill but as others have said, there are beautiful views and various bars to stop at to quench your thirst. And without the walk you wouldn't get the views.
Rooms are simple. The hotel is built almost into the cliffside with the rooms being loctaed 2 floors and 1 floor below the reception and 1 above adjacent to the sun terrace. These top rooms have no private sun area but beautiful views. The next floor we were told have small balconies but views over the lake. We were on the floor below and had the biggest balconies but could not see the lake fully when sitting down, but the mountains made up for it. I had no problm with the room. As for air conditioning I am sure people don't understand it. Shut your doors and windows and it stays on all day apart from about an hour early evening.
Staff are great and attentive. Lilliana, Pierro, Guisy, Robby and Co. Nothing too much trouble and rooms cleaned daily. No problems here.
As for food, there was plenty. Breakfast as the previous reviewer said was massive, and I can eat! I didn't need lunch at all. As for the evening meal the salads were great, but there was a lot of German style veg as well as fresh stuff and plenty of dressings. The pasta/rice course was probably best and the main courses I woulkd say were mixed. Some good, some not so. Sweets were a bit dull but ice cream or fruit were great. Also if you didn't want your dinner as you were eating elsewhere they would give you an enormous packed lunch. Ours lasted us 2 days each! Other than this I didn't bother to eat at lunchtime.
We were given the complimentary wine on arrival, a bottle of bubbly on our wedding anniversary and we had our 250mls of wine each free each night along with our water.
Lets be honest this is not an expensive holiday and for the money we paid I felt it was wonderful value.
If you are outr and about for a meal don't miss the Monte Baldo Hotel for the best (but most expensive) fish in the town or Al Torcol for great Pizza and pasta.
Limone is lovely but not really a place for kids (neither is the hotel as there is little for them to do but use the pool). Just chill in the evening with a drink at Gemma's or go to some of the free entertainment in the town. we even saw the Opera Aida for free!
As for the swimming pool in the hotel. It does look bigger in the photos. Its is about 10m long and not really any good if you are a keen swimmer who needs to do lengths every day. Ok for me though to cool off from the sun.
Just one thing about the manageress Lilliana, she came after me at the end of the trip and gave me 10e which I had paid as a deposit for my room safe key. I thought this was apayment but it's actually free, as is the aircon. Where else do you get this.
PS Go to Verona but make sure you are on an English only trip, some we spoke to ended up being the only English on a coachful of Germans, not good if you have to listen to more of a commentary in German than English. Car hire is quite expensive, we had 2 days for 120E but had a good look around. Try Lake Tenno, at the top of Lake Garda, Few people there and really beautifuul countryside and mountains.
Enjoy!!

We have just returned from a week at the Villa Dirce and have to say that Limone is one of the best places we have ever been to. On arrival at the hotel we were met by the manageress Livi who helped carry our luggage. After checking in, we were given a bottle of Bardolino wine in a lovely hessian bag with compliments of the hotel. Our room was on the 2nd floor and although fairly basic, was spotlessly clean and with a balcony affording wonderful views of the lake and mountains. The walk into Limone from the hotel can take between 20 and 30 minutes but it is very scenic although rather hilly in places.

The food at the hotel could not really be faulted. There is a vast selection at breakfast including cereals, meat, cheeses, fruit, yoghurts, boiled eggs, rolls, bread, toast, scrambled egg and either bacon or sausage. The evening meal consists of 4 courses - salad buffet starter followed by waiter served 2nd, 3rd and dessert courses. 2nd course consists of a choice of 2 different pastas and a soup. The 3rd course again has 3 choices of meat and fish dishes and for dessert there is a choice of Italian cake, ice cream, fresh fruit or cheese. You keep your same table throughout your stay for both breakfast and evening meal and the restaurant has the most magnificent lake views. The waiting staff are also great and really friendly. Also, with evening meal you are entitled to a quarter litre of wine or soft drink and a jug of still or sparkling water per person. Free tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits are also available each day between 4 and 5pm. There is also a lunchtime menu where food can be purchased and eaten on the terrace by the swimming pool.

There was only one evening where entertainment was provided in the form of a singer/guitarist. Most people either walk into Limone in the evening or just sit on the terrace having a drink and a chat.

Overall we had a wonderful holiday and fabulous weather with temperatures in the high 30s every day. The highlight though was the stunning scenery.

My wife and i have just returned fom a week at villa dirce.i have to say the front of house were all very friendly and helpful especialy the wonderful Liviana. The kitchen staff were the complete opposite. The food in general did seem very good, but being veggie was a different matter, They asked what they could for cook me,i said lasagne, rissotto etc, the kitchen refused ,all i was offered for main was tomato pasta, ommelette or cheese. I will say i would go back because of the staff but not for the veggie food. the hotel itself was very clean inside but the outside areas are a bit run down
