“Peace and serenity”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2012

I was there early May with a friend. The hotel is rustic and truly peaceful. We had dinner in the hotel every night and the food was amazing. The nearest beach was a good 15 mins walk away, and it was beautiful and unspoiled. We even did a good hour and a half one morning horse riding by the beach and through the woods, it was awesome! This place is great for pure unwind and relaxation, there is no doubt about it. I would definitely return!

Just simply a lovely place to stay if you are looking for a holiday where you can relax. The gorgeous pool has hammocks nearby and there are plenty of lounger chairs by the pool. If you want to get out and about it's best to hire a car. The nearest beach is about 20 minutes walk and we found a different beach everyday. Superb.

Room Tip: The rooms facing the courtyard

This is a beautiful, quaint and very unusual place where you can really unwind and relax into your holiday. The setting is amazing-mountains and rolling hills around you and a beach within walking distance. Donatella and her staff are so warm and friendly; they make you feel part of the family. The hotel setting is rustic, attractive and just as an old monastery should be. It is not a large, faceless hotel with swanky facilities. But the rooms are quaint, atmospheric, comfortable and clean. The hotel has a garden and grounds and little coutyards where you can chill and a beautiful, quiet pool of a very good size with hammocks swinging in the palms. The atmosphere is quite unique; if you want a totally relaxing holiday and somewhere you can use as a base from which to explore the beautiful Sardinian coastline, this is it! We do think you need a car to get around the wonderful beaches along this part of the coast as they are worth seeing.

Room Tip: The rooms are variable in size. We thought the best rooms are those facing a courtyard with a small...

A different and particular experience in a marvellous surroundings of peacefull and relax.
I think in summer could be better but even now, the Monastero hotel is a place that has a magical atmosphere. The staff is so kind, caring and carefully to every our necessity.
Every morning we had breakfast..fantastic and various breakfast!
We found every kind of cakes and fresh, healthy and the fantastic oranges of their garden..we absolutely loved it!
We also had dinner at Monastero hotel and I can't explain how much is good..Sardinian, delicately food..simply the best I ever eat in my holidays.
It was a pity only for the weather, but anyway we enjoied our time in Sardinia.
It's very important to have the car, because public transport are not so good and too much expensive.

We stayed at Il Monastero (July 2009) upon a recommendation from a close friend who has stayed here a couple of times so when we arrived the staff knew our names and were so friendly. Donatella - sei forte!
We stayed here for 9 nights and loved every second. This part of Sardinia is unspoilt and beautiful. The hotel is literally in the middle of nowhere which is why we picked it. You definately need a car and in the summer sun you wont feel like walking anywhere, particularly as the surrounding areas are very hilly! So make sure you hire a car. There is ample parking at the hotel.
The hotel is literally a converted monastery. The rooms are basic (dble bed, large wardrobe, desk, chair and bathroom. the rooms were big and the bathroom a really good size. The shower was not so great but we can live with that.
All rooms look onto a large courtyard which is a nice place to have a drink or a chat in the evening. As the building are very old - sound travels between the rooms which can be annoying if your neighbour chooses to watch late night TV!
We only ate in the restaurant one day for lunch. We had to eat indoors which was a shame as I would have quite liked to eat beside the beautiful pool (you can eat beside the pool in the evenings).
The pool is wonderful. Its perfect for everyone. There is a failry deep area for those who want to some some real swimming but mostly its a lounge pool. there is a bubble jet area in the middle of the pool also.
Around the pool there are plenty of sunbeds and chairs and also a few hammocks hidden between the palms. Its a wonderful place to relax. Its so peaceful all day and you do literally feel as though you are in a secret paradise.
I would definately recoomend this hotel for a simple holiday and would definatly return. If you want to experience Sardinia on a budget then this is a good place to come but be warned that Sardinia is Not a cheap place and food will take up a good chunk of your budget. The food is DELICIOUS in Sardinia though, so dont hold back!
Some tips:
Car Hire: Do a websearch for local car rentals - will be much cheaper than Hertz/Avis.
Restaurants: Avoid il Saraceno at all costs. Rude staff, dreadful food. We recommend going into Villasimius where there are some good pizzerias. Also, on the drive to Villasimius (about 25 mins along very windy roads) there are a couple of good places to check out. The best thing to eat here is fresh sea food. For beautiful views turn off for the port just before you get to villasimius and there is a pizzeria which has the most divine views over the port (make sure you book!! and the best time to go is just before sunset). Lots of great places to eat. Also, near the hotel, the Queen Mary restaurant is nice and overlooks the marina and serves good food at a good price. The best restaurant is Da Barbara which is in Solanas (look on a map).
If you make it into Cagliari, then you MUST go to the restaurant I Quattro Mori which is excellent food. Its a relaxed atmosphere. People go there just to enjoy great food. They serve hot and cold antipasti, first course, socond course etc until you are full, then you just tell them to stop. Its a great experience but make sure you go hungry!
Beaches: Each beach is different to the next in this area. THe beach nr the hotel is not that great. if you drive then you can find some incredible places. Drivind west down the sout coast and you will find Chia which is the most breathtaking beach with powder sand. Just take you car and explore! Its well worth driving to find some exquisite places.

Il Monastero is a lovely hotel. Simple and it does exactly what it says on the tin!

Saluti a Donatella e Laura, da Saffo e Daniel.
