Hotel Barriere L'Hotel du Lac
Reviewed 21 November 2008

Hotel du Lac is a very good hotel in Enghien Les Bains. The rooms are quite spacious, and very quiet; The restaurant serves excellent food and the staff at the hotel are extremely helpful and would do anything to help you.
I will definitely go back.

Do not beleive that this hotel is anything but worn out and shabby. We stayed in the hotel on a trip down to the south of France, for one night. We paid €100 per room per night for a superior room overlooking the lake. The general area surrounding the hotel is poor and generally run down. The first problem was the hotel frontage was closed due to roadworks. Having booked, only 2 days earlier, this was not mentioned and it made getting into the hotel a real challenge!! When we did get in the lobby was very dated and the carpets were dirty and worn out. After going to the room, which was also tired looking and drab, we went to use the pool as is shown on the website. The hotel uses the facilities of a neighbouring sports club. Access is €30 per day per person regardless of the fact that you are staying at the hotel. It is not worth it if you just want to swim and children under 16 are not allowed in at any time!!! There was blood on the pillowcases and on a duvet, they carried only one English speaking TV channel, CNN news and the telephone instructions on the phone had the wrong number to prefix the room you want to call!!! This meant that we dialled a very irrate frenchman three times before we realised and reported the mistake.
The lake is dirty and not worth being anywhere near. I would definetly not stay here again and I would not want anyone to waste their money on a hotel that is so poorly run. A 1 star would be too much.

This hotel is probably the best value deal for people wanting to stay close to Paris but not within the city limits.
I got a deal at 85 EUR per night for 3 nights and it was worth any cent I paid (breakfast was not included). The hotel has its own parking (7EUR per 24h), a beautiful lobby and bar, great french restaurant, and the rooms are simply huge, newly decorated, perfectly clean and maintained. The service is polite, professional and amazingly enthusiastic.
The hotel is quoted to be a 3 stars but people have to be aware that the french rating system does not follow international standards (but loosely based on restaurant, bathroom availability and space) and this would easily classify as a 4 stars in other countries.
The hotel is located in Enghien, a city nearby Paris in front of a beautiful lake and is owned by the same group that owns the city casino and you get a free entrance in it at checking (the only one in Paris suburb, I think). The train station taking you to Paris Gare du Nord is a walking distance away, and close to the hotel is a walking aread where restaurants and shops are available. The view on the lake from the hotel entrance is charming.
To make it short, go for it (especially at the rates above). This is really an amazing experience and if you are quite familiar and blase with the average poor standard of french 3 stars, well, you'll be surprised beyond expectations and the price will achieve to make you delighted.
The only downside I can think about is that the temperature in the room was pretty much uncontralable. There is a command for the aircon but didn't seem to work that well. All in all, we were there in June, not too hot, not too cold, and it wasn't so much of a problem. Maybe it was just a problem with the room we got.
Would i stay there again? Definitely.. again and again, each year i go to Paris.

We went to France at the weekend to watch France v All Blacks at Stade de France and our main requirement when looking for a hotel was somewhere near to the stadium. Hotel du Lac was a real find as it was in a great location (opposite a beautiful lake and located in a lovely village) it was also only a 15 minute cab ride away from the stadium (28 euros each way). Hotel is a 3* but in my opinion it was more like a 4*. Staff were efficient and friendly, we had a lovely room with balcony that overlooked the lake. There is also a train station within walking distance of the hotel which takes you directly into the centre of Paris within 20 mins. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and would definitely stay again.

We stayed the last night of our honeymoon at hotel du lac before flying back to Canada from CDG.

The hotel is situated in a small town just outside of Paris that has it's own casino, lake and other immenities. I wish we would have arrived earlier and stayed an extra day to really enjoy all it had to offer.
The hotel was quite upper scale to say the least although the staff was very friendly and accomedating. Our room was on the fourth floor and was very nicely decorated with a large kingsize bed. Very spacious actually. Our room had its own patio luckily as it was slightly warm inside with no AC.

I would definately reccomend this hotel for a day or two if your in the area... Its about a 30min drive to CDG.
