“Polite and friendly staff”
Reviewed 15 March 2012

Have stayed here on several occasions. Restaurants are great, rooms are a bit old fashioned. One reason for coming back is the friendly staff. Entrance is now under renovation. Perfect hotel for a romantic getaway

I stayed at this hotel in February 2012 on business. The first impressions are that it is a very ornate, and clean hotel. There was no sign of the dust or dirt that other reviewers have noted.
The rooms are a decent size. There is a reasonable selection of food at various prices. In all, on the face of it, this hotel is pretty good.
Sometimes though, it can all seem too good to be true. We were sat in the bar area having a beer, and we noticed that there were mice running around the floor and under the skirting. We must have seen around 6 in all. I informed the barman, and he didn't seem concerned at all, even suggesting that it was too cold to throw them out. We saw one in the restaurant too.

Another slight niggle - the pillows on the bed are too big to be comfortable. I slept badly until 1:30am when I eventually got up and found some proper pillows in the wardrobe. Only two though, yet there were 4 of the huge great things that prop you up like you are in a hospital bed.
Finally, the room was too hot, so I turned on the air condition and it was blowing directly onto my face.- uncomfortable, but the huge pillows came in handy piled up to form a barrier against the icy cold draught.
So, if you don't mind the mice, check in the wardrobe for pillows before going to bed, and make sure the room is the correct temperature for you several hours before retiring, then this is a nice place to stay.
There are 3 buses in the morning that go to ESA for a price of 5 Euro's per person. The buses do call at other hotels too, so this is not a unique service.

Was here for 2 days for meetings. The hotel is quite luxurious for Dutch standards with a nice art deco vibe. I stayed on the 7th floor and had a nice seaview and a french balcony to enjoy it. The room interior was slightly dated and showing its age here and there. Dinner (set menu) and breakfast (buffet) were both very good.

The meeting facilities are top notch and the rooms provide a great panoramic sea view.

Expensive but good for a splurge or for a meeting location.

The hotel has a perfect location almost on the beach and must have been beautiful once. We had a company Christmas party there and expectation were high based on the reputation of this hotel. It turned out to be a deception. The double bed, where two bed together with a gap in between them. The beds were hard and the pillows poor. Several tiles in the bathroom were chipped. The staff at the breakfast could not handle the guests. Coffee arrived over 15 minutes after we started breakfast and the dirty dishes of previous guest were not removed.

The sea view in the morning was great !!

Room Tip: Try to get a room with a sea view.

Over the years I have stayed at the Huis ter Duin hotel many time. Initially some weekend stays with the family and in later years only for business reasons. The location of the hotel is great. Noordwijk is one of the better beach towns in The Netherlands. Staff has never been very friendly, which I have always considered the biggest disadvantage ot the hotel. They are just not there to make your stay enjoyable, they do their work, that's it. This has been the case for many years. Slowly but gradually the overall quality goes down. Rooms are still the same as years ago, never newly decorated. For me they have downgraded from 5 to 4 and now three stars (unfortunately).

Unbelievable how much dust one can collect on the air duct inlets, in the toilets there is at least 1 cm thick hardened dust. This hotel once had an unsurpassed reputation, but shows all the signs of past glory and rapid declination. Even though the location is perfect (great view from suites!), even the outer facade shows signs of wear and tear. One seriously wonders when this will be upgraded, as the grandeur of times once lived, is now easily passed by other formulas in Noordwijk.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view room.
