We spent 9 days here over Whitsun and had a great holiday. There is a lot to cover when reviewing Duinrell so this may be a long review!
We booked though Eurocamp and they looked after us very well.
We travelled from Harwich on the Ferry and took a day cabin which made for a very relaxing day for me as I got to chill out while the kids and my husband made full use of the on board cinema.
The check in at Duinrell was easy and we were shown to our Espace caravan by one of the many Eurocamp reps available on site.
We had chosen ,on booking , to stay on the Eiland which I really recommend. We were tucked away in the woods , next to a stretch of water so had ducks coming to visit for breakfast every morning. It was quieter and more private than the rest of the camp but still really close to the Tikibad and the Attraction park and play areas.
The shop and the main entrance was a much longer walk away.
The Eiland is traffic free unless you are loading or unloading so you park your car in a nearby parking area once you have unpacked. This made it safe for the children to play.
The caravan was clean and modern. We had a few items of equipment missing and our gas ran out one evening but everything was always quickly and efficiently dealt with by the reps.
The park can be quite noisy if there are a lot campers using the touring pitches. When we arrived most of the camping pitches were empty but within a few days they were all packed full and we noticed the noise levels increasing. The noise would bother some people and the "quiet after 11pm" rule was not policed by the security staff so we did have two nights of loud music until about 1am which was a shame.
When I booked the holiday I imagined the theme park to be separate from the holiday park and was surprised to find that it is all free flowing. We were able to walk around the theme park even when it was closed which was nice on the evening we arrived as it allowed us to get a feel for where everything was.
There is a nice play area with a huge bumpy slide just next to the Eiland and another huge play park in the main square which can be used even when the theme park is shut.
We found that the theme park was never too busy and the kids were often able to have two or three turns on a ride in a row. Over our stay we noticed a pattern of fairly quiet weekends, busy early in the week with lots of school coach parties arriving and then quieter again towards the end of the week. I have no idea if that pattern continues throughout the year though. The theme park is good fun and our two children couldn't get enough of it.
The Tikibad has great slides and is good value if you are staying in the holiday park as it costs €3.50 for two hours ( which is plenty of time to enjoy everything) We used it three times over the course of our holiday. The outdoor pool is free but we didn't use it as it was still a little cold even on sunny days.
We did a few day trips to explore the area and can recommend Delft, Alkmaar ( on a Friday for the cheese market ) and Volendam which is a pretty fishing village with nice restaurants overlooking the sea.
We went to Amsterdam for the day and decided to take the bus and train option over the park and ride. It was very easy to do but was quite an expensive option and I think we would use the park and ride if we did it again.
The local town of Wassenaar is lovely and just a few minutes walk from the entrance to the park. There are lots of little boutique style shops and good bakeries and quality food shops. There is an ice cream parlour called Luciano's which is absolutely fantastic and quite reasonable at €1 per scoop.
The beach is a 10 min drive away and the parking is quite expensive. I think if you went during hot weather a bike would be a necessity if you wanted to spend lots of time at the beach. It is too far to walk.
Our children who are 8 and 5 said it was the best holiday ever ( even compared to last year's trip to Disney World in Florida!)
I think Duinrell is excellent value for money. Our 9 day break for four of us came to £1300 including the ferry crossings and day cabins. I don't think we could have have a better holiday anywhere for that money.
