“Not for Everyone”

It is important to understand what kind of hotel this is. if you are the kind of traveller who likes to spend time in your hotel room, this is not the hotel for you. Rooms (even the superior rooms) are very small and cramped and only the more expensive rooms have views of the harbour.
The communal areas of the hotel however are excellent & have panoramic 360 degree views of the harbour, mountains and town as well as constant free tea and coffee. There is free wi-fi in the rooms, a reception-area computer for public use and detailed weather info at reception (where staff were very friendly and helpful).
The hotel is used a lot by parties of activity holiday people (hikers, climbers, cyclists etc) plus passing coach parties. Most guests stay for a short time & there is constant turnover.
We stayed for a week in August as part of a hiking trip with HF.
Breakfast & supper buffet can be a scrum when the hotel is full, but both offer an excellent choice and quality and a fabulous dining room overlooking the harbour (or a deck area outside). Again, Fine Dining it is not - if you like luxury this is not your kind of place.
The place has a slight feel of an Outdoor Activity Lodge. A place where people can feel relaxed, sleep and eat and are then are gone all day. We liked it a lot.

Room Tip: It is worth paying extra for a superior room unless you don't mind a view of the car park.

This hotel has a great location, being only 5 minutes walk from the centre of Svolvaer. It is a very busy hotel, with coaches of tourists arriving each day, staying the night and then moving on. As a result, the breakfast and evening buffet can become extremely busy. If you are in a group, you may have to use the buffet at a specific time. The food is reasonable, but there is not much change when staying for a week. If you want a pack lunch, then a plastic bag is available from reception which you can fill from the breakfast buffet - the cost is 65 kroner (approx. £6.50). A bottle of wine is £32, so bring your own! The rooms are small compared to other hotels. However, make sure you do not get allocated room numbers 108-120, 202-210 and 212-224 - the reason is that these back on to the Anker Bryggebaren Pub that has live music until 2.30am each night (Sundays it is midnight). You have been warned!

Room Tip: Superior rooms with a balcony are the best, as they overlook the sea and are not near to the Anker B...

A great location in the centre of Svolvaer, though did smell a bit of fish. Free Wi Fi and great views over the harbour.

The rooms are a good size and the breakfast is tasty and fresh, and you can sit in the boat shaped section and feel like you are floating.

Its a 5 min walk to the local bus stop, to head south and start exploring the most beautiful place on earth.

To balance some of the other reviews beware that if you get a room in the wing containing room 220 you could well be kept awake half the night by loud music from the adjacent bar/restaurant and complaining to the staff is unlikely to get you anywhere in a hurry. It's true the hotel, bar and restaurant have a great location but many of the rooms overlook the car park. Meal times frenetic with the many tour groups. Staff helpful but lack the personal touch.

Situated by the sea, I was lucky first to have a great room with a view of the harbour (107), and later on the 'fishing room', were you actually could fish from a whole in the floor - they were both amazing! Quiet, friendly, beds were good. Windows a little dirty, but otherwise spik and span.
Breakfast room with beautiful view. They could have more fresh fruit and should have real scrambled eggs, not blocks of yellow gunge. But the selection of freshly new baked bread, and the Norwegian selection of cheese, hams, jams and cereal was great. They were all friendly and helpful. I loved being there, and will be back!

The location of this hotel is hard to beat. On it's own island, in the middle of Svolvaer, with perfect view of the harbour and the Hurtigruten passing by. This is also the view from the restaurant and bar. The problem is: when you get a room at the other side, your view probably will be that of several touring cars... So TRY TO MAKE SURE YOU GET A ROOM WITH HARBOUR VIEW. When not, it might be a disappointment.
The rooms themselves are on the small side, and pretty basic. All is clean and in working order though!
Breakfast was plentiful, but since this hotel serves many groups, and they tend to have breakfast at pretty much the same time (even though the staff tries their best to spread it) it might feel crowded.
Staff was helpful and friendly. Wifi is available in your room.
What made me give this hotel 4 stars is solely based on it's wonderful location and friendly staff. The rest is good, but not above average.
