“Cosy and warm”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

I spent 4 nights here as part of a smallish group over New Year. The hotel is perfectly located, a stone's throw from the centre of town. As it is right at the edge of the water in the harbour, one could easily imagine that one was on a ship. The water lapped underneath the balcony of my room and I had a lovely view across the water. It was so relaxing and quiet and , although it was rather small, this made it more cosy. I was , however, the sole occupant of the room ; I can imagine that it would be a bit of a squeeze if I were sharing. The puplic areas of the hotel are spacious and comfortable and the staff were exceptional. The food was simple, well cooked and tasty. There was a good assortment available for breakfast and we were able to help ourselves to the coffee machine at any time of the day. There was also cake awaiting us when we came in from the cold in the afternoon. I loved the homely feel of the hotel.

Room Tip: Water front rooms are best for the view and tranquility.

The hotel is close from the city and from the hurtigruten stop, then it is convenient if you are going to do a cruise. The room was small but adequate, the breakfast was good and the wi-fi worked well.

This review would be very different if the original room we were allocated had not been smoky! The first room was at the back of the hotel, overlooking the car park and near a pub that had loud music some nights during the week. We were moved to a room overlooking the harbour, definitely an upgrade and worth the difference! The room had a little balcony right over the water where we could watch the boats on the harbour. Lovely reflections when we arrived but then we had very wet and windy weather and it was dramatic to be there then! The restaurant had beautiful views, the food was good and the staff were helpful.

Excellent location by the sea in the city center. The rooms are comfortable and spacious with an inviting balcony just above the water. Breakfast was delicious and incredibly rich. The receptionists are friendly and helpful overall.

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights, and I have to mention that cleaning on the second day was done superficially and inappropriate way (2 minutes of bedding – that's it). In my case it was done in the late afternoon, after I returned to the hotel from day activity (and it is consider off season period...).

Internet in the hotel is free, but make sure you have the correct password from the reception, since the password is changed every day.

This hotels location is at the harbor side and two minutes walk from the center of town. In a nice norwegian style building. Parking is free. The restaurant has a superb view of the harbor. The Hurtigrute sails almost in front of the windows. We had a very nice room with a contemporary color scheme. The beds were excellent. Windows could be opened for fresh air and you could hear the water, very relaxing. Staff was friendly. The restaurant was good but a little expensive. Breakfast was excellent and a lot of healthy choices.

Room Tip: Ask for the harbor side.

A nice setting, small rooms, infrequently cleaned and poorly serviced, most days only the waste bins were emptied., beds not made and carpet not vacuumed. Used, soiled towels were refolded for use. Use the safe in the reception office for obvious reasons. Bitter experience.
Often there are huge numbers of diners and it is a struggle to balance your plate etc from the buffet down the steps to the dining area.
On occasion, the reception staff were curt and offhand.

Room Tip: Some rooms look over the water and some have a terrific view of the car park. Ground floor rooms nee...

It is important to understand what kind of hotel this is. if you are the kind of traveller who likes to spend time in your hotel room, this is not the hotel for you. Rooms (even the superior rooms) are very small and cramped and only the more expensive rooms have views of the harbour.
The communal areas of the hotel however are excellent & have panoramic 360 degree views of the harbour, mountains and town as well as constant free tea and coffee. There is free wi-fi in the rooms, a reception-area computer for public use and detailed weather info at reception (where staff were very friendly and helpful).
The hotel is used a lot by parties of activity holiday people (hikers, climbers, cyclists etc) plus passing coach parties. Most guests stay for a short time & there is constant turnover.
We stayed for a week in August as part of a hiking trip with HF.
Breakfast & supper buffet can be a scrum when the hotel is full, but both offer an excellent choice and quality and a fabulous dining room overlooking the harbour (or a deck area outside). Again, Fine Dining it is not - if you like luxury this is not your kind of place.
The place has a slight feel of an Outdoor Activity Lodge. A place where people can feel relaxed, sleep and eat and are then are gone all day. We liked it a lot.

Room Tip: It is worth paying extra for a superior room unless you don't mind a view of the car park.
