Food great, service super, the atmosphere delightful. Certainly among the best meals I have had in Norway.

Very cosy restaurant, and everything appeared to be kept very clean.
The service was slow but friendly.
I tried the fish soup and whale steak. The soup tasted good, but even my 9 year old daughter commented that the fish in it (mostly salmon) was dry. The whale was almost cold when it came to the table, and it was almost as though to digest as leather... The potatoes that followed where awful.
Other members of the party were however pleased with their reindeer steak and cod tongue.
All in all this place seems overprized compared to the quality of food and service.

We dined at the Kjoekkenet restaurant (not the pub) on a quiet Friday night.
The restaurant itself is gorgeous: corners filled with old fashioned, vintage objects; a soft, warm lighting; good noise reduction (2/3 of the tables were taken but the noise was never too loud). The service was quite good. We were served by an extremely polite latvian who was attentive and friendly. The food, however, was not as incredible as one might have thought after seeing the environment and the menu. The stew was tasteless (we had to add salt!), the cod tongues were too large and too fried, the desert was banal. Maybe we were unlucky, but we chose traditional dishes and expected something more.

We were enticed in by the fantastic menu but unfortunately did not have chance to actually try any of it.

The restaurant had 6 tables of various sizes, three of which were taken, one larger table was reserved and the remaining two tables were not even made up. When we enterd the restaurant the staff seemed shoked to have 'more' customers. They had to confer with each other when we asked if they could serve us, eventually we were told that they could not fit us in because the remaining made up table was already booked. Obviousley it was too much trouble for them to lay out a couple of places on one of the empty tables so that we could eat there.

Don't waste your time unless you have made an advanced reservation and even then don't expect the service to be very organised.
