“Can not recommend”
Reviewed 5 December 2011

I have had my share of hotelstayings and this is by far the worst hotel I have ever been to. That includes cheap stayings abroad. We spent a weekend at this hotel and I can really not recommend it. My first impresion was that the hotel was old, but not in a good way. More like cheap. Our room was clean, but thats about it. Bathroom was simple. We had to let the water run for half an hour just to get enough hot water so you could wash your hair. To cold to take a proper shower.. I love food and the food was ok, but there was always something missing at the buffet and table. We really missed the small things, like bacon at the breakfastbuffet. They have a nice looking spa at the hotel. We did not book any treatments but we used the fasilities like sauna and boblebath wich is free for hotelguests. The only thing here was that they had closed it before closingtime so we had to ask them nicely if they could have it opend again for the last hour that they was supposed to. And they didn`t have hotwater in the showers there either... In the bar we had to wait for ages for a drink. It looked like they had the room but not capasity for the guests. The barmen did their best and actually tried to smile once or twice. Even though I have listed many things I didn`t like about my staying the biggest dissapointment was the reseptionist that worked nightshifts. He was grompy, not polite at all and had no intetions what so ever to try to make my stay better. He was not a peopleperson and should maybe consider a job that he didn`t have to talk to people. The great location cant way up for this bad hotelexperience since there are so many other beautiful places in Norway with great landscape and view.

We spent a weekend at the hotel during the Peer Gynt festival. The play was wonderful, and the scenery great. The hotel was tragic. The current owners have let a once nice hotel slide into disrepair and shameful neglect. The staff were most unhelpful and the food was at best industrial, large scale catering. In other words, low quality, which is shocking given the wealth of local food in the region.

We will definitely return to cycle Peer Gynt vei, but we will steer well clear of any Thon hotel as Olav Thon(the owner of the chain) is a cheap old man who has shown no respect for the rich heritage of the building.

We stayed in these apartments for three nights with our two daughters (12 years of age) in July 2011 while traveling from the Netherlands to Trondheim. These apartments are situated approximately 40 kilometers from Lillehammer. It is localized in a rather remote rural area. In winter this ski-resort is probably a lively place to be, but in summer, it is rather quit. Nevertheless, this region of Norway is worth paying a visit. There are lots of possibilities for hiking, biking and canoeing.

Our apartment was rather outdated and the furniture really worn-out. There was a living room of about 15 square meters with dining table, cough and small television. One master bedroom of about 9 m2 with a twin bed and a smaller bedroom with a bunk bed for two persons. There was an additional small hall of 4 square meters. Both a shower and a toilet, clean but again outdated. There were no hotel guest toiletries or shampoo or soap dispensers. A small kitchen basically very well equipped but again outdated (20-30 years old?). These apartments really need some renovation!

There is a carpet on the floor, which was (again…) worn out and dusty. There was a heating, but no air-conditioning. No WIFI connection is available. In respect to the safety, there is one fire detector in the living room, next to the stove. A fire alarm is mounted in the hall of the apartment. The staff is really friendly and helpful.

The price of this apartment was low compared to the other apartments in this region, but of course this is reflected in the poorer quality. These apartments are fine for a stay of a couple of nights, but if you want to stay for a longer period in this area, you may consider looking for another place to stay.

In summary: Why should you stay in these apartments? If you are planning to stay for a short period and you won’t like to stay in a more expensive hotel or apartment, this place might be what you are looking for. Why should you not stay in these apartments? Well, if you are looking for a comfortable, luxurious stay, this is definitely not the place to be. The place is outdated and furniture and equipment worn-out. It really needs a make-over!

We stayed two nights in this hotel on a round trip through Norway. This was not the best hotel we stayed in during this trip, but it was okay. The whole hotel is a bit run down, but is has maintained a very homely atmosphere, a bit of times past by. So you overlook the down side and enjoy the stay. The surrounding countryside is absolutely breathtaking. We had the fortune of good weather and drove the Peer Gynt Way, which we recommend to everybody.
Meal at the hotel restaurant was buffet style; they cater for bus loads mostly. So try to eat before the groups.
Breakfast was okay.

The little cabin/ house we stayed in was good. It was clean, cosy and comfortable. The price of the bedlinnen was expensive (180 norwegian krones for one persone). The park was boring. We were early in the season (beginning of May, the Norwegian holidayseason starts somewhere in july) so a lot of the facilities were closes (bar, shop, even the reception was closed soon). There was also a lot of building, new houses, in the park. All and all it looked a bit bare and empty. It is more made for the winterseason than for the summerseason. The surroundings are good (liked Lillehammer and the Peer Gynt-road) and the people of the park were also very nice. Still a bit quiet...

I stayed here with my husband and my 7 year old son. We arrived late in the day, so we called the hotel in advance to explain we were on our way. When arrived, although they stopped serving dinner at 9pm, thet said it was'nt a problem we have dinner for you. Very grateful as we were pretty tired and hungry! We had a self contained lodge-like room, which was linked to the hotel but we could park outside and there was a door at the front of our room also. The view was stunning, you could see across the valley...so pretty. Our room was all wooden walls and very cosy, our son had his own room, which he loved. The main bedroom was set aside from the lounge area and private with curtains, but no door. Lots of room for all our snow gear! A fridge, whirlpool bath, very nice after aches on the slopes. We had friendly norwegian neighbours, always said hello to us! The food at breakfast time was varied, eggs and bacon etc, lots of cold meats, some cereal and pancakes, very filling! always running out of orange juice though! staff friendly. Lunchtime we really looked forward to, buffet style lots of pasta, meats, salads etc, best part of the day. dinner menu limited, not sure if you did'nt like something what there was as an alternative. I felt hungry sometimes leaving there. Lunch and dinner had a small selection of childrens food. Very expensive drinks, I think that's normal generally in norway though. The location of the hotel was great, they gave us ski passes gratis one day. It's a ten minute walk or 5 minute ski to the lifts. They also have a lovely spa. They offered night time entertainment, but we were too tired to go back after dinner. Would definately go back again. As with ski-ing, boarding etc...we were beginners anyway, but looked as though they had some fab runs on the slope, great ski area for children too. plenty of hire places aswell

I spent 3 nights at the Thon hotel Skeikampen. The hotel lies on the foot of Skeikampen, which on a clear day must be a great scene (it was foggy and cloudy during my stay).

To summarise:
Best: location with regards to skiing.
Worst: the room, and the price/value ratio (I didn't pay for my stay).

The service at the reception was not the best I've experienced, partly because of the mood of the receptionist and partly because of the small language barrier (most of the staff was Danish and Swedish).

The room was the worst part of the stay. Although spacious and with a nice view over the underlying valley, the floor was carpeted, the bed was average and all electronic equipment was as taken out of the mid-90's (TV and telephone, the hotel has WLAN via Telenor, but that costs...). The bathroom was, like my girlfriend said, like a cheap London hotel. Not exactly dirty, but more old and cheap... we had a small bathtub with a shower head that most of all wanted to spin 'round and 'round.

We had all meals included, and beside of the location, that was the best part of the trip. OK breakfast with several traditional Norwegian dishes. The lunch buffet was nice, the same was the dinners.

The hotel has a little spa-department with 2 jacuzzis, 2 different saunas and a cold water pit. This is free of charge for the hotel guests. You can also buy different spa treatments, but it seems you'll have to order in advance to be sure the list is not filled.

As mentioned, the hotel has a good location for alpine skiing, and a great location for cross country skiing. The alpine part is what I would call a ski-in (not ski-out), because you'll have to ski 300-400 meters to get to the main lift and to buy a ski pass (they don't sell ski passes at the hotel!), this little ski trip is OK if you're an over average cross country skier using slalom skis, but be prepared to break a sweat.

The cross country track is 5 meters from the hotel entrance! Absolutely great!
