“Lovely pool, slightly dated but clean apartment, friendly and helpful staff.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2013

We stayed here in a 2 bed apartment for one night before moving onto our rented villa. We arrived around 9 pm and after being shown to our room by a lovely friendly lady who was 8 months pregnant we headed to the bar for a snack and drinks. The apartment was quite dated and a few repairs were needed on lights, door handles etc but it was comfortable and clean (there was a cockroach in the kitchen sink but it was a spotless sink!)
The following morning we had breakfast on the terrace by the pool which was nice but very limited for choice. The kids spent a good hour in the huge pool while we sunbathed in the pretty gardens around it before we checked out. I would definitely recommend it as a base if you were looking for a cheap getaway to the sun.

Room Tip: We stayed in apartment 17 on the ground floor right opposite the pool and bar, it had a small patio...

Spent another cracking 10 days at the Honorio. Had noted a couple of the previous reviews and was slightly concerned that standards had slipped.

Alberto was there to welcome us once more, they guy cant do enough for you. I had already booked my travel from Faro to the complex, however he explained that they now have their own minibus to pick up guests. he stated it was 60 euros return (cheaper than the 73 euros I paid via Yellow fish).

This time our apartment was on the ground floor (no 123). The terrace wasnt as good as the top floor flat we had previously and it meant we did not use it as much.

The apartment was clean with no sign of the problems experienced with insects on previous reviews. Our air conditioning wasnt working also, this was rectified with a fuse supplied by Alberto. (wondering if they try not to use it as it did seem loud).

The prices at the hotel bar were great, ice creams were around 1.5 euros and the beer for a pint was 2 euros which was very reasonable. The bar area has a much better WIFI now and was noticeable how many people were using it.

The pool is stunning and was clean for our visit. this is probably its main selling point. Again it was fantastic to use and I noticed again the absence of any other Brits apart from one other family.

One new thing I noted was that it now has the problem like most complexes with people going earlier and earlier to claim sunbeds. There isnt enough of these and the only other Brit family were more guilty than any other by constantly sticking towels down early in the morning in the raised sunbed area and then not appearing till 11am for a couple of hours!

Locally, Jaffers is excellent value with a fantastic bakery and butcher on site. The Italian restaurant "Villa Nostra" which has sprung up next to Jaffers is excellent. We ate there twice and had takeaway from there on a number of occasions. Also the Chicken takeaway place across the road from the Italian was again fantastic, every bit as good as it was last year.

Vilamoura was a 30 minute walk away and we found it lovely as ever. Not a big fan of Quarteira, find it a bit grubby so only visited there once this time.

This place is still good value for money, dont expect plush accomodation (unless you book the owners abroad villa which looks nice!)

3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 June 2012

We have just spent a week at the Honorio Apartments. There are several things that need a bit of tweaking here. Firstly, the air conditioning needs fixing (ours didn't work at all). There are no parasols in the pool area, so it is too hot to spend too much time around (the lovely) pool. Half of the sunbeds are broken and you cannot pull them into the shade as they are all chained together in rows. There was no maid service at all until the day before we left, when new towels were brought. (oh for a pair of clean and ironed sheets!) We had a very spacious patio - but no parasol there either, although one was provided upon request. We couldn't use the barbeque as the grid was not fit for human consumption which was a shame. We also shared our accommodation with cockroaches as did a previous reviewer. All in all these apartments are let down by things that would take very little effort and money to rectify. Having said that, we enjoyed Quarteira and Vilamoura and especially enjoyed the weather and time to relax. When we go again we shall choose other accommodation.

Room Tip: It is quite noisy near the bar area

Family orientated but beware that you share your rooms with cockroaches - we found three during the week. Adding the continual ant pest it did take the shine off our time. The pool is quite deep but again was full of (live) bugs so I would question the cleanliness.

Would we return again, no, Would I recommend it? No.

Spent a fantastic 10 days at the Honorio. The manager Alberto is excellent and bought us a round of drinks on arrival as our room was not ready (by 45 minutes). He makes a point of knowing who you are and is extremely helpful.

The complex is mostly two storey however we were in the top three storey block. The villa is large with two bedrooms, lounge, kitchen, wc and a huge roof terrace. The kitchen was excellent with a cooker with hobs and oven, microwave, fridge/freezer etc.

The pool is the best I have experienced abroad. Very clean and large in relation to the size of the complex. There is a bar/restaurant on site which was reasonably priced (a pint of Super Bok was 2 euros). You can get food there however I only had something once as there is lots to do in the area. The bar staff were excellent and spoke good English. There were mainly Portugese people at the complex with only a couple of families from the UK, this was something I liked! ;o)

This complex is really in Quarteira, not Villamoura. Quarteira is a resort with mainly Portugese tourists and is not as picturesque as Villamoura. Quarteira beach is around 25 minutes walk away with Villamoura being more like 45 minutes away. We were a family of 5 and found taxis that could accomodate us to be like Hens Teeth!

Nearby there is an excellent supermarket called "Jaffers". Next door to this is an excellent Italian restaurant that also does take away from its full menu. We used this a lot. Just down the road from the supermarket is a Grill Takeway place that does fantastic takeaway chicken. They are spit roasted behind the counter and you can also get other various cuts of meat available. A whole chicken costs 5.50 euros and was excellent value.

Villamoura is lovely although as you would expect, the meals at the marina were expensive, however there is plenty restaurants behind the marina at more reasonable prices.

If I had any complaint it would be that the Villa could do with some updating, however for the price you are paying (booked via travelrepublic), I think this villa is fantastic value for money with good amenities suitable for families up to 6 in size.

We stayed at Apartamentos Honorio at the begining of July, we booked via bookingroom.com. Our flight arrived very early, so i pre agreed with the manager to leave our luggage at reception as oficial check in time is only at 16.00. However Alberto made us feel very welcome and had told me we could use the pool straightaway as well as the cafe/resturante facilities... It turned out someone had checked out early and within 45 minutes we had our apartment ready. Result !!!! The apartment was exactly as the fotos show, not luxury, but very, very clean and functional. 2 double bedrooms, Kitchen is fully equipped, the lounge is spacious, sofa and dining table ,there is also 2 WC's !! The floor is marble, which made the apts. always nice and cool, did'nt bother with the air conditioning at all. and outside some days it was 35+, In the patio area there was a superb barbecue which we used regularly, it was a welcome change from sitting in restaurantes all the time !! If you like barbecued fish there is a superb Market in Town by the seafront !!! The pool is just wonderfull, one of the best i have seen in holiday accomodation, and there was always plenty of sun loungers, we went to the beach every morning and lounged around the pool PM, it was great, nice and lazy afternoons.... what a life !!!! WIFI is free but only available in the bar/cafe area. There is a bit of a distance to town at least 15 minutes walking, and coming back its even harder as its up hill, but to be honest i needed the excercise, before i turned into jabba the hut with all the great portuguese food i was stuffing down my neck !! Vilamoura is next door, literally ,but i would'nt walk it, by cab its around 5 euros...if you like to party then i recommend you go there in the evenings, as quarteira is a lot quieter, even though there is still a few bars and lots of cafes about, specially down by the beach ! If you got kids then take them to Aquashow, they will love it, Super sliding all day !!!! And thats's it really...just a small note to thank ALL the stuff at Honorio, who were very helpful and kind....see you all again next year !!!!!

Before arriving at the apartment, I emailed the owner to clarify a couple of things. He replied straight away and was very helpful. We arrived earlier than the 4pm check-in to the apartment complex. The owner was away but had left our wrist bands (needed for the pool) with the bar staff and housekeeping were just finishing the cleaning so let us stay.
The apartment its self was very clean but did stink a bit of stale fags. The decor was very 1980's! There was air-conditioning in the apartment but we were told we needed to pay a "tax" in order to get the fuse. As it turns out, it was broken anyway (not surprised) so we were supplied with a desk fan, not ideal but did the job. The tv is a small portable with only bbc world news in English. Most of the other guest's were Portuguese with a couple for other Europeans. We were the only British staying at that time..... which I really liked! The complex is lovely, small and quiet. The pool was great. My son (2) loved the kids pool as it only came up to his chest meaning he could be independent with his ring on. Each apartment has a built in BBQ which was great as there isn't an oven only a 2 ring hob in the ap. The is a small bar on site offering bar snacks too. They play music all day which isn't too loud but again very 1980's. Think Phil Collins and Dire Straits! There is a guy who seems to do a bit of everything (served in the bar/cleaned the pool etc) who's english was perfect and a great help for pointing us in the right direction of where things were. Just a 10 min walk away is a supermarket with everything you need. A couple of mins drive takes you into Vilamoura for the beach and Marina. We ate by the marina most nights. You can get everything from Pizza to curry to steak etc. Bring plenty of money though, a large coke was £4! All in all though, a lovely quiet and cheap holiday. Would I go back? Probably not to that apartment but only because I'd like a villa next time!!
