“Beautiful Hotel but why so expensive?”
Reviewed 2 August 2013

We stayed for a week as a family of four in two rooms.
The hotel is beautiful and contemporary in styling, clean and spotless, breakfast was good but after a week there was no variation and it was a little cold.
(Tip take your own tea bags if you like a strong brew).
Mainly for golfers, its location is out away from the harbour, and main strip with nowhere to walk out to. There is a complimentary bus shuttle to and from town or you can take a taxi, less than 10e each way.
The food in the pool bar and buffet restaurant was poor and very expensive 16e for a burger with fries, 5e for a 400ml beer and 3.5e for a small soft drink. your bill soon adds up just to spend a day by the pool.
Glad we went though and we enjoyed our stay but personally I probably wouldnt visit this part of portugal again.
Oh and kids club, well there wasn't much happening at all that we could see to entertain either of our children that were with us. The spa was used by my partner and she said it was fantastic so thats a plus point!

We go to the Algarve every year and normally stay at the same property however we had a discount voucher for this Hotel and decided to give it a go for one night as the rate was quite appealing. Overall we were not disappointed however there are quite a few details that could be improved to make it an excellent hotel. The first thing we noticed when we arrived was the location of the hotel. It is in a tranquil spot with great views and only a few apartment buildings surrounding it however if you do not have a car it is in the middle of nowhere meaning you would have to get taxis to go to everywhere. They do have a free shuttle to the Vilamoura marina but am not sure how often it runs as we did not use it. One thing I would suggest to the hotel is to offer a free shuttle to the beach as other 5 star hotels do which is very convenient in the Summer months. We arrived before the normal check in time and so our room was not ready however they were quite friendly and let us know we could use all the hotel facilities in the mean time and even offered to keep our luggage which we did not need as we had driven there and so just left everything in our car in the free covered parking. We went straight to one of the pools (there are 2 outdoor ones). Everything looks nice and the service was good. Our first impression was that there were not a great deal of sun beds considering the size of the hotel however as they do have another pool we did not have a hard time finding space. The pool itself is nice but watch out for the metal step ladders to get in and out of the pool as they only have 2 steps each and they are very close together so impossible to use for someone with mobility issues (they should have at least 3 steps and better spaced). We ordered sandwiches for lunch at the pool bar which were only ok but well presented and good quantity. When they brought the check we told them we wanted to charge it to our room but had not been given a room number or key yet and so they went back to speak to front desk. They came back to tell us they could not find our reservation even after we had given them our names! This was a little embarrassing and annoying however by this time it was 3 pm so we decided to head to reception ourselves to get our key and sort it out. We finally headed to our room which was a very good size, spacious, dark, modern decoration with a view to the golf course. It had a nice balcony with a comfortable double sun bed. It had a good size walk in closet with plenty of space, an ironing board, an open plan bathroom with a large walk in shower (which was great) and a separate tub and a separate area with the toilet and bidet but this area was quite small and had a faulty toilet paper hold. When you start looking at the details things start to look less glamorous. They have a Nespresso machine (wow!) but then they charge you 2 euros each coffee, luckily I already knew this in advance and brought a few capsules from home. Internet is not free which I feel is ridiculous for a 5 star hotel nowadays; there was no hair drier in the bathroom; after my husband shaved there was water on the shelf under the sink which started dripping onto the floor; there is no shelf space in the shower on which to place your shampoo and stuff and there were holes in the black out curtains! Finally, there were no slippers in the room which is not normal for a 5 star hotel which offers robes. We did not request them immediately as we were in a hurry to leave for dinner. After turndown (they left us a nice chocolate on each pillow which was a nice touch) still no slippers so we asked at the front desk if they normally had slippers and they said yes. We told them they had not been placed in our rooms at turndown and they told us that housekeeping was now closed so they could not get us slippers and that we would have to wait until the next day. I told them that we normally need the slippers in the evening and that we were leaving the next day so it would not be worth it. It is not very positive when issues like this cannot be solved in the evening. A hotel is open and must be running 24 hours so the person that works in the evening must know a little about all areas of the hotel to help guests at any time needed, day or night! We were also told the hotel was full so they may have run out of stock...! Even worse answer right? ! That means whoever is running the hotel did not stock up on enough material for a full hotel. This must be the case because the next morning we decided to use the pool again before leaving and there were no pool towels available. After waiting for over 20 minutes we were given normal white bath towels. We were promised pool towels as soon as they became available and indeed the pool attendants were efficient enough and did bring them over after quite some time.
Breakfast was excellent, great food and choice and efficient service although it was crowded.
We will probably only return to this hotel if they ever have such a great discount again as we do not feel it is worth the regular price they normally charge and will probably stick to our usual choice.

We only stayed at the Tivoli Victoria for two nights, but it was an ideal destination for a short break. The hotel itself is only 25 minutes (35 euro taxi fare) from Faro airport, but located in the countryside, in the middle of a golf course.
We were a little worried when we discovered our half board option was buffet style, but our worries were ill-founded. This is not a hotel with greasy, re-heated slop. Each evening had a different theme (Italian first, then Asian), with individually plated mini- starters to select from, alongside a multitude of salads. The main options were kept in warming plates, but not overfilled, so staff were refilling with fresh food regularly. There was also an option each evening, that the chef would cook for you whilst you waited.
The hotel itself is lovely, modern, bright decor throughout, airy rooms & very clean. We found our twin room spacious, with cleverly designed bathroom areas to increase the sense of space. There is no complimentary tea or coffee in the room (we thought there was, but it transpired that use of the coffee machine attracted a 2 euro per cup charge, which wasn't self-evident), but that's a really minor gripe. There was nothing else I could have faulted with the room or the housekeeping staff.
The pool area was equally well-laid out and clean. This is a hotel where people get up early to lay out their towels, so be aware of that - if you don't play the game you won't even get close to the main pool area. And if you are not in the main pool area, you will struggle to get served with food & drinks. Having said that, when we complained that no-one had been along in the last hour, the drinks that we had just ordered at the bar were offered to us on a complimentary basis. So I can't complain really - it would just have been nice if we hadn't had to raise the point at all. And to put it in context, we wouldn't hesitate to return for another short break.

Stayed for two weeks in the Residence just across the road from the main hotel. Really very good resort, 2 and 3 bed apartments of a very high standard, presently in 100% condition and spotlessly clean.
The apartments have aircon and tv in all rooms, a fully fitted kitchen with dishwasher (which the cleaners will fill and start) and washing machine. We had a three bedroom and it had three balconies also. All the beds and showers were of good quality and all windows had electronic metal shutters great for sleeping in the early morning.
Only issue was the cheap bottle opener which only made a hole in any cork I tried it on, needs to be replaced.
One very large pool that winds around the outside space, one heated inside pool and a kids pool.
Poolside bar and bar serving snacks just beside the playground within the complex. The sun loungers are great quality and have matts, there are also some in a shallow shelf in the pool.
First week there was a car launch in the hotel so it was very quiet which was fine by us, second week it was busier but never felt hectic.
Stayed with small kids and the kids pool is a good depth and size. Kids club is right beside the kids pool so they can go in and out as they please.
All the staff were very nice, relaxed and helpful.

The only problem is how far away from the beach and Marina it is, there is a bus that goes to the Tivoli Marina and you can use their beach but in the evening the times don't suit early diners. The Marina is 8-10€ away in a taxi. Car rental is expensive in Portugal.

All said very nice resort and would go again and recommend.

NOTE - there is a night-club that started up for the last few days we were there and woke us a few times in the middle of the night, any apartment facing or on the gold club side will get a lot of this noise.

Room Tip: NOTE - there is a night-club that started up for the last few days we were there and woke us a few t...

I just spent 1 week in the hotel with my baby and little girl.
Hotel looks very nice, rooms are ok.
For me it's no 5* hotel because of a lack of service and imagination what a specific customer likes to have.
Examples:
- every morning at breakfast I went with the stroller in one hand and a plate with glasses of juice for me and my little girl in the other to our table. Except 1 morning, nobody even offered me to help, although there were hardly customers (perhaps max 10) and there was a lot of staff just looking at me or talking to each other.
- restaurant doesn't have any colouring pictures, pencils for children etc. (And when you ask for it and they don't have, the next day they don't have it either........)
- I received a schedule of the kids club activities, but when I went for a specific activity and I showed the schedule to the employee, she told me she never had seen a schedule before
- food is quite fat and overpriced
- Caesar Salade ordered by Room Service was very nice, when I ordered at the restaurant I received it with a awful kind of chicken (never ever seen this kind of preparation in a CS). When I asked for a different kind of chicken I received but first a older lady who seems to be a kind of manager started discussing with me about the chicken.
This specific lady I've seen several days, never smiling, acting friendly or giving us the feeling being welcome.

Positive:
- as well very friendly people are working over there. Especially the boys working around the pool are doing a great job.

A great hotel with really nice well thought out rooms however be warned some rooms are a long way from the reception area and the corridors dont seem to have air conditioning. Super pool and bar areas, some distance from the sea but on a golf course.

Room Tip: Unless you like walking ask for a room close to reception on the first floor or close to the pool on...

I was here for a business trip in July. Although there may be locations more convenient, I can't fault this hotel in any way except it is away from most anything. It is quiet and very comfortable. The ambiance, service and amenities are all very good. I particularly enjoyed the breakfast buffet while sitting outside. This may have been unique to my room but the air conditioning didn't quite cool the room to my liking.

Room Tip: There are 3 floors. The lower room numbers are the farthest from the lobby and require a longer walk...
