“Not five star”
Reviewed 17 October 2013 via mobile

Stayed here for a week in mid October for business/pleasure. The hotel itself is ok, rooms are clean, bathrooms with a separate loo and a lighting system that drives you potty! The wifi in the hotel is dreadful. Some times it works, some times it doesn't and if you aren't a member if the Tivoli loyalty programme it costs 15 euros per day. A complete rip off and that's if it works at all. The hotel has two swimming pools, one with a bar and a quieter pool. The quieter pool has about 20 sun loungers which are very comfortable but only ten of them had mattresses on which seemed rather odd seeing that the hotel was at maximum occupancy. The breakfast is ok, although I fail it understand why a five star hotel should serve tinned peaches!!! Choice of cereal very limited and dreadful coffee. The staff here try very hard to please but it is clear that cost cutting is in place. The gym is pretty basic but does its job. I didn't use the spa but some friends of mine did and they said it was excellent. Did not eat in the hotel in the evening so cannot comment on this. Pretty average hotel and definitely not in the five star category.

My son and myself stayed for 4 days during the Portugal Masters Golf tournament. The course was right on the doorstep and the weather throughout our stay was superb. The rooms are well maintained and the beds are very comfy. Breakfast was delicious and the staff throughout the hotel are all eager to please. I recommend anyone to become a Discovery Club Member which entitles you to free Internet access in your room (otherwise 15 Euros a day) and a complimentary token for a daily newspaper. The hotel is situated 15 minutes from the lovely marina and there is a courtesy bus 5 times a day. However, beware; when we stayed this was full every evening and left some unfortunate residents behind. One word of warning if you are on a budget the prices for drinks and food are astronomical. The pool bar had 3 staff during the day who for the majority of time were underemployed. I would have thought that if you reduce your prices, you will generate more custom. However, overall a superb hotel in every sense. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Stayed specifically to watch golf tournament and paid extra for golf view. Room was perfect with view of final green, shame then that bathroom had a serious leak from the ceiling. Despite room not being serviceable we were offered a room with nothing like a reasonable golf view, "but a great sunset" said the manager. Asked to be moved back when repaired but that was a request too far apparently. Otherwise hotel was as expected for it's rating. Half board buffet was excellent. Room problems dragged down what would have been a superb holiday - not what is expected of this hotel but I guess pro golfers are their priority.

Room Tip: Look first and check for faults.

Unfortunately our stay was a deception because of our room. When I booked with booking I saw the pics of teh hotel and choose it mainly because of nice rooms and beautiful swimming pool. As we travel with 2 girls we decided to book na apartment.
We got surprised as when we reached the hotel we got informed that aprtments are not at the hotel but in the other buildings, on the other side of the street. The surroundings were compeltely different, nothing alike to luxurious Tivoli, just a simple pool with simple chairs, no mini bar in the room (arrived late at night with our 2 daughters, nothing to drink in the apartment), simple accomodation, no nice bathroom amenities, nothing compared to any 5 * I have been at. The reception was very small, no restuarants and small bar.
Actually the "residences" part is a condo that has not been sold so it is used to be rented and was changed into something that should be similiar to hotel but is not. When you book 5* you expect roomservice, mini bar and many other basic services.
Last day we went to main Tivoli to the pool, very nica and relaxing but nothing alike to the place where we have stayed.
Huge mistake, but I can not find any info in my booking that I wouldnt be staying at the main part!

This is our second visit to the Victoria. It fully justifies its 5 star rating. Breakfasts are superb and really set you up for the day. From the moment that you check in to the moment you check out, the staff cannot do enough for you. The rooms are clean and modern, fresh towels available all day. The pool is fine, could just do with being a tad deeper. The gym is well kitted out to suit the needs of all.
There is a regular courtesy bus to Vilamoura which gets you to and from the attractions around the marina.

Room Tip: Standard rooms are OK.

We have just returned from a stay at The Residences which we would not like to repeat. Despite reservations being told that we had walking difficulties we were placed far away from the main gate/reception and walking on the cobbled stones proved very difficult for us. The lighting in the evening was very bad and the only restaurant/bar in the complex was outdoors and closed at 8pm we felt this should have been pointed out to us. The apartment itself was nice but no thought was given to the bathrooms. The shower room was really badly designed and very slippy both inside the shower and outside. The en-suite bathroom was not suitable for disabled people at all. We had no change of sheets for 7 days which we found terrible. The cleaning of the apartment was not good at all and we had to constantly request towels. We think we should have been told there was no pool bar or service and no restaurant available in October after 8pm. We did have one dinner in the main hotel in the Emo Restaurant which was nice but too far and difficult for us to get to. All in all not an experience we would wish to repeat.

We enjoyed a great stay in this hotel. Even though the weather wasn't exactly what we expected (obviously the Scottish weather had travelled with us) the hotel was so perfect that it didn't matter. The rooms are very clean and modern with an excellent balcony space to any out on. The breakfast was brilliant and the staff so friendly and helpful you couldn't wish for more. There is a bus which takes you into Villamoura, we did walk it one evening it takes about 40 minutes but isn't a very scenic walk alongside a dual carriageway! Will definitely return hopefully sooner rather than later as we had such a relaxing stay.
