Reviewed 1 September 2014

We stayed here for 10 nights in August and pretty much used all facilities and found them to exceed our expectations. It was our first time travelling as a family with our 5 month old baby boy. I had a few questions before I even arrived and they were so helpful. The staff are sunny, smiley, happy and extremely professional. Breakfast was hands down the best we have had in any hotel. Room was perfect, spa was fabulous, golf world class. All pool areas were so luxurious, well staffed and spotlessly clean. Location was perfect for us, great shuttle service to the marina. We didn't manage Emo on this occasion as we would rather enjoy that experience with out a little baby! Next time for sure. The only 'but' was the wifi, it was very hit and miss, extremely slow at the best of times. However in hindsight it did us good to leave the phones/ iPads down and enjoy the fabulous resort. Perhaps that's their motive!

We will most definitely be back next year, and can't imagine staying anywhere else. Thank you all for a wonderful holiday!

First impressions on arrival are good as the hotel is how it looks in the pictures however the finer details and services let the hotel down. Our room was not ready on arrival, which was after 3pm. We did not mind the wait however when we did get to the room it still was not ready... we had no bath towels and also our balcony was filthy. The loungers were not cleaned and a number of cushions had many stains and other debris on them. This did disgust me! It was cleaned and towels provided but not until I called reception 4 times to have someone sent up.
We also asked for a room with sun on the balcony in the afternoon but received a room with sun in the mornings. We didn't ask to be changed as it was not a big deal and didn't feel like I could approach the reception staff anyway... Throughout the stay they came across as being a little rude when asked any question. It felt as if you were putting them out asking anything.
Anyone planning on staying in the hotel and who wishes to use the wifi should definitely join the GHA club as wifi is free for members. You also receive a free newspaper every day and are supposed to get water on arrival(we had to ask for this, it was left in our room a couple of hours later when we had been out for dinner).
The hotel itself is nice and the adults only pool is relaxing. The place is kept very clean and the staff cannot do enough for you. You can have food and drinks delivered to your lounger which is great just make sure to tip the staff in cash as all other tips go to the owner!! The staff in the bar are also welcoming and friendly. The cleaning staff also have to be mentioned as they were friendly and professional throughout.

As everyone else has said wifi is really poor. It keeps dropping or is not even available to connect to most of the time.

The free shuttle bus in to the Marina is very handy and always on time. We would have been lost without this as there is nothing to do around the hotel besides sitting by the pool or in the bar/lobby. I think you can pay extra to rent tennis rackets or play golf but we did not enquire.

The food and drink at the hotel is very expensive so be prepared to spend a lot if you plan to stay around the hotel. We had a meal in the hotel one night which again was nice but expensive for what you got. There is a different themed buffet each night which costs €35pp. I did hear that children eat free so that might suit families. Breakfast was great with plenty of choice.

Overall, because this hotel is rated 5 star and for what we paid we expected more. As I said the finer details do really let the place down and also become annoying... after choosing to spend more money on a 5 star we expected 5 star treatment, service and quality... Sadly Tivoli Victoria did not live up to our expectations.

Myself and my friend arrived at tivoli this morning for a 6 day break before I join my family in Vila Lara for a week thereafter, room wasn't ready but that was absolutely fine, we relaxed by the pool, had some food and drink.. We received a call at around 2.30 to say our room was ready, when we arrived it was a double bed with a cot but an ok view of the pool.. We rang reception who advised they'd change the room, our 2nd room was a twin room but with another cot and with a view of not a lot to be honest.. We then had to go get our own luggage and then when I asked about wifi I was advised it would cost 15euro every day.. I've stayed in lake resort, Hilton, pine cliffs and vita vita over the last 2 years and I have to say this hotel disappointingly so far hasn't lived up to its all edged 5 stars.. Hoping the week improves!!

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks in August as a family of 8 with 3 rooms. The rooms, the pools and the facilities are excellent. The staff unfailingly polite and attentive. However we found much that could be improved and were not up to the standards of other similar resort hotels we have stayed at, for example:

Check In: one of our rooms only became available at 3.30 pm. We arrived at 11 so just hung around. Understand that they are not obliged to provide the room until 3pm - so just 30 mins late but until 3.20 there was no apology and no proper information. Some free drinks/snacks and an apology would have been welcome. After a few days construction started opposite this room - we were moved - some small gesture for the inconvenience would have been appropriate. Counter staff are totally uncompromising and are clearly given no discretion.

Food: adequate but boring. Little fresh whole fruit or variation in cut fruit at breakfast, Pancakes but no waffles, crumpets or any variation. Dinner was little better with changes to the mains - yet essentially similar. A meal ordered from the lobby bar took over an hour and the burgers were delivered cold & congealed.

WiFi: Erratic & frequently out of service. Not as advertised. Even receiving and sending emails became a chore. Linking family iPads was a continual problem. A router or repeater eventually provided to one room worked well - so they have a solution but it's only provided after continual complaint.

Coffee: Nespresso machines are provided as advertised - but what is not advertised is that the pods are an extortionate 2 euros a pop. So bring your own pods!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a pool view. Avoid far left (from entrance) wing due to construction noise - sp...

We are on our last day at the residences after a 14 day stay ,there has been my husband and two teenage daughters . We stayed at residence where the apartment was excellent only down falll is no wifi unless you pay ,for a complex like this free wifi is expected in apartments ,an amenity pack on arrival with tea milk and basics would have been good as no shops were open when we arrived .however that said everything else was amazing and we will be coming back . The spar in victoria which is across the street from residences has a nice spar and the hotel is good for a relaxing drink . You can also have an eat as much as you like buffet meal for 35 euro a head under 12 free with wine and drinks included ,especially good on fish night as one fish corse down harbour is around 20 plus euro . The bus into town is punctual and it's good idea to get there a little early , into the marina takes anything from 10 to 20 minutes depending on traffic . Tivoli marina which you can also use is pleasant and on the beach . The cost to eat out in the harbour (which had masses of restaraunts of all types) varies from around 11 to 20 euros per head . Drinks 4 to 9 depending if large beer or cocktail . If you want a taxi it's approx 10 to 12 euros depending on time of day and traffic . Vilamoura is a perfect family and couples retreat. If you have a car albeffera is only half hour away unless morning traffic for zoo marina . I would recommend this hotel and resort it's been a five star holiday and staff have been wonderful . Looking forward to booking for next year :-)

My husband and I stayed here for 7 nights. It was such a chilled out holiday. The staff were friendly, the rooms were lovely, great food at breakfast & Dinner. Only problem was a lack of sunbeds near the pool & surrounding area. The complimentary coach service to the Marina was perfect if you wanted to spend an evening out of the hotel. Overall a perfect holiday, we would definitely go back!!

Have just returned back from a weeks stay in the Victoria Tivoli with my family. The hotel is absolutely fabulous.

The staff were very attentive, nothing was too much trouble.

Rooms were big, comfy and luxurious.

Food very good.

Pools were great with fab big comfy sun loungers and day beds and loads of umbrellas.

I have stayed in lots of great hotels in Portugal most been 5* but this has to be the best! There are lots of lovely little touches that made the stay even better, it's all about looking after the customer at the Tivoli Victoria.

Can't wait to return! Hopefully this year...
