A 15 to 20 minute drive from the centre of Villamoura, Oliveira Dourada is contained in what feels like a friend's house in the quiet serenity of the countryside. Decorated creatively and softly lit by candles, it was a unique dining experience. We arrived on a Tuesday night only to be told that they were fully booked - so remember to book in advance. We made a reservation for the following night and before we left, the chef and owner José gave us a menu to take with us and marked off which menu items would be available. He mentioned that if we wanted to have something else listed on the menu to ring him in the morning and that he would go and get it for us. Many of the items were influenced by the cooking of former Portuguese colonies in Africa which made for an interesting and welcome change. Having experienced the relaxed atmosphere of the restaurant and how personable and passionate José was about his menu and the sourcing of his ingredients, we knew we would be in for a real treat. When we arrived for our reservation, José appeared at our table and talked us slowly through the menu and paid great attention to the details of his dishes. We decided on the Cataplanas and were advised that one order of this dish would be sufficient for us both as a main course. We asked to see a wine menu and were informed that there was a single choice for both red and white. We chose a bottle of the white and were very impressed. You can agree to spend a small sum of money on a selection of starters which are chosen at José's discretion - the variety and quality of these delicious little bites which were delivered consistently to our table was excellent with the surprise element making the experience all the more enjoyable. Our main course was indeed enough for us both and like the starters before it, it was also excellent and lovingly prepared with the freshest of ingredients. Dessert was complementary and consisted of fresh fruit and a lemon scented whipped cream - it was heavenly. We were kindly offered a digestif by José and as the evening had by then winded down for the staff, we had a lovely chat with him and his partner. It was a truly memorable experience and everything we would have wanted for a special evening meal - great food served at a reasonable price by friendly and passionate people in beautiful and relaxed surroundings.

This hidden pearl (located in an area where you would not expect it), is really worth the visit. A nice Portuguese mansion with a cosy terrace and friendly staff, lets you taste the real Portugal cuisine.

The place was extremely clean, not something you can find easily in Southern European area's. But here you really notice the difference!

The menu is limited, 4 to 5 dishes with fish and the same number of meat dishes. The cover contains a series of appetizers of the day, some fresh fruit and the typical Tuna-Mayo mix. All very fresh and very tasty.

We had the black pork tenderloin as main dish, a perfectly grilled slice of pork, with fruit (grilled pineapple, some berries) and fine mashed potatoes. A rare combination (with the fruit) but the perfect mix!

after your main dish, you get a dessert of the day dish, which is on the house. We closed the evening with a good cup of coffee, and were happy to have been here. Definitely a place to return too!

Beautiful setting, lovely food, and excellent service and atmosphere. All 4 of us thoroughly enjoyed it and would have happily gone there every night of our holiday. Great wine too!

This was a 10/15 minute taxi drive from the Marina area, and there is both indoor and outdoor seating, it was all beautifully lit and quaint. We were greeted and shown to our table, and then the food just started arriving! lots of appetisers all delicious. The choice of wine was basically 'red or white'! We went for the white and it was lovely. Then we were shown a main course menu with lots of choice. The food took quite a while to arrive, but this was perfect as we were fairly full from the starters, and the break was nice. Main meal delicious - my sister and I opted for Cataplana and a prawn, pumpkin and coconut dish, and shared. Then a complimentary dessert arrived which was divine. The whole bill was 56 euros, including wine and water- just perfect. We were delighted we booked this restaurant, it was very worthwhile visiting it for something a bit different.

This is the first time I have felt compelled to right a review about anything when returning from holiday, here goes.
Had heard about this place from friends who recently returned from Vilamoura. Have holidayed there for the last three years, so thought why not try it out. Having eaten in most places there.
You will need to get a taxi for it is in the back and beyond, cost eight euros to and ten back. Do not let this put you off. For once there you will discover a real quaint picturesque gem.
As soon as you sit down they start filling the table with a wonderful array of starters such as carrot with curried and tuna dips, poppadom, garlick bread, melon with various berries and a tomato and redcurrant dish of which I have ever had before absolutely delicious plus other bits and bobs.( can't remember. Well it was a week ago )
Felt absolutely full from this ( a warning ) I just got carried away!. A real table full

Mains, dearest fifteen euro I opted for lamb taguine with cous cous my partner prawn pumpkin curry of which was both were delicious and very generous helpings
I couldn't, finish it.
Dessert was a little mousse in a little glass which is served to you whether you want it or not, there is no charge for this as with the coffee. The water is one euro for a
Litre bottle served without asking.
I Had a couple of lagers two euros each for large glass.
Staff who apparently all family were genuinely nice and attentive unlike some places out there. The bill was forty four euros.
You are advise to book in advance as it often full, a expensive night out for only to be disappointed on a wasted journey.
We recommend this place to a few people we meet, they were of the same opinion.
Give the Olive tree a go you will not regret it.
