After reading the reviews of the Dom Pedro Marina before our trip I had an idea of what to expect. I agree with previous comments that it is not quite a 4 star and it seems that this is to be generally expected in this part of the world.

The Hotel had a mixture of guests mainly English or Irish holidaymakers and a large contingent of Golfers. There also appeared to be a few people on business staying at this time. We found the Hotel to be clean. The staff we met were efficient.

The room we stayed in had a view of the Marina and was pleasant enough. There is a TV in the room but few English speaking channels. I did notice that the Bath had a hole in it which had been repaired and some of the tiling needed attention which cast my mind back to reading the previous reviews of this Hotel which described the Hotel as "Tired". I feel there is some truth in that but it is not overly noticable. The Hotel had hard tiled floors throughout which can create problems with noise. This was only apparant on the last night of our stay when the person in the adjoining room seemed to be bouncing a Golf ball on the floor. I could also hear the person next door taking a Bath later which highlights a problem with noise insulation.

The buffet breakfast was good and there is plenty of choice. The service I found to be rather cold at times by the staff. The Hotel has a good pool area and the reception lounge area is comfortable. The Bar has waiter service and the prices reflect this.

Our trip to Vilamoura was to relax and catch the sun. It was a pleasant stay because we took advantage of the Hotels location which is only 2 minutes walk to the Marina beach and about 5 minutes to the Marina. This beach is superb and in early September was quiet. I wondered why people spent all day in the Hotel next to the pool when the beach was so close. The Hotels location to the beach I felt was the biggest plus point. The Hotel is only about 20 minutes walk from the town of Quarteira which adjoins Vilamoura. Although not as pristine and contrived as Vilamoura this is away from the "Golden Tourist" zone and the prices which accompany it.

Overall I would recommend this Hotel for a relaxing beach holiday due to the location. There are faults but they did not affect an enjoyable holiday.

We stayed for a week (Aug/Sept 2009) and we will never stay again. The people who manage this hotel are incompetent. They put us into rooms which were inferior to the ones we had paid extra for, when we queried this, they started an argument. They told us that the hotel was full and they could not move anybody to other rooms. So, why did they overbook their hotel in the first place?

The reception staff were rude and unhelpful, when asked for extra towels etc to be sent to room, they would either send none or less than asked for and they would always try to make you feel that you were doing something wrong by asking in the first place.

Several times during the week, we witnessed guests complaining to staff about bad service etc.

The Assistant Manager in particular is an ignorant and nasty person, she is not fit to work in a job involving dealing with the public. She was totally dismissive of our concerns and she obviously hates her job.

The rooms were dirty and many fixtures were broken e.g. wardrobe doors, balcony door locks, toilet seat, shower curtain rail etc.

The hotel is shabby and dated and there is absolutely no information available in the reception area or the bedrooms regarding local attractions, daytrips etc.

Stay at Dom Pedro Marina Hotel if you like slumming it at a 1 star hotel which pretends to be a 4 star hotel. Also, if you like to stay in a hotel where the management and reception staff start agruments with you because you ask a question, then it is the place for you.

Stayed at Dom Pedro Marina for 2 weeks. Very good hotel. Very clean and friendly people.
I recommend you take a travel kettle for your hotel room. This resort is specially designed for sporty people, nearly every bar and restaurant has more than one television showing sport only, all the time. The tv in your room is very old and there are NO SPORT CHANNELS available, a deliberate ploy by all the hotels. Some very good restaurants, the marina ones are a bit expensive, go 400 yards inland and find the Concorde restaurant, excellent value. Also the Buzio beach bar is very good. Two observations we made were (1) vilamoura must be twinned with 'Blobbyland' and (2) All the young men have no hair.

We have been holidaying in Vilamoura for 11 years, and have stayed in the Dom Pedro Marina for the last 7. It is probably the smallest of the big hotels, and so has a warm friendly, personal feeling. The loyal and longstanding staff are welcoming and friendly - they know us by name and what our bar and lunch orders are! Hotel food is good, and the lobby lounge is comfortable, and very pleasant early evening when there is often a pianist playing a variety of classical and popular tracks.
The hotel is ideally placed for the beach and marina, and although we have had to stay in a couple of other hotels in the resort when this one was full, we only ever want to stay here again - it is head and shoulders above the rest.

We stayed at Dom Pedro Marina 2 weeks in the beginning of August with another couple with a teenager also. (I have to say that being from Lisbon we are not used to go to the Algarve in August, so we were a bit concerned about hotel's occupation but being full we we didn't get any queues). At the reservation time (April this year) we asked for top floors' family suites and we were promised so. When we arrived we got 2 suites on the 1st floor. Complaining about it, we got a junior suite on the 7th floor with a large terrace and a fabulous view (sea, marina, etc.) - free upgrade. Our friends were given a family suite on the 5th floor without terrace but this was not a problem once they always came to ours.
It's true that a bit rooms' redecorating is needed, the bathroom also.

Pool is very nice, plenty of sunbeds and shadow for those who don't like our hot sun and the beach is just 200 m far from the hotel, marina is just in front.

We were HB, usually asked to have a table outside, near the pool and it was really great to have dinner there. The food is really good, only a fish and a meat dish but plenty of salads. Fruit was diffrent everyday, the same for the breakfast.
We are used to hotels in south of Spain and there always big queues for meals; this didn't happen here.

The only problem we've found here is parking, this hotel only has parking for a few cars so you have to use the Potobello parking and sometimes even this one is full.

We had a brilliant time and would have no hesitation in recommending this lovely hotel to anyone.

We spent a week at the Dom Pedro Marina at the start of August. The location of the hotel is great - right beside the Marina. The room itself was a little dated especially the bathroom but apart from that it was very clean. The pool is lovely. No problem getting loungers and the pool area has plenty of shade with the palm trees. The area of Vilamoura is beautiful. I would recommend the May Flower for dinner - you might have to wait for a table but it's worth it. Overall, a good hotel but it's not our equivalent of 4*
